- Hey there everyone! I hope you all are having a great weekend! Today, I thought I break out one of the best that Kirby ever offered, the 1979 Tradition! This particular example is a rare early version with the headlight cap switch. I hope you all enjoy the video and please like, comment, and subscribe!
My family had a Kirby Tradition when I was growing up in the 90s. My mother found it at a thrift store and it needed a little repair so thanks to living in Cleveland, she took it to the Kirby factory to be rebuilt. I inherited that vacuum after my mother passed in 2005 and retrofitted it with a Heritage II mini-emptor to use HEPA bags. I also replaced the impeller along the way after many years of abuse. Ultimately sold it on eBay in 2001 after I acquired a Kirby G4.
Way cool! I always love hearing about stories like that! Kirbys are great machines!
Great video and beautiful machine!
Thank you so much! And thanks for watching!
I had that one, the later version had the first plastic fan.😊
Oh very cool! I also have a later version too. It’s very interesting to see the little differences. Thank you so much for watching!
Good job, Karl!
I have a '79 Tradition myself; mine also has the lock on the outside of the headlight cap, but the speed switch inside the cap had long ago been replaced by the older bottom-mount speed switch on the fan case.
The metal fan in yours sounds like it has a broken fin and must be replaced soon.
I did check the fan out when I got it and just now and thankfully it is fully intact. Thank you so much and thanks for watching!
@@Konstellation_Karl_55 You're welcome, Karl... I believe now there may have been some tufts of hair around it when you first made this video.
BTW, does the original top-mounted speed switch itself still work still work perfectly, knowing that it was not a good design at the time?
@@ClassicTVMan1981X oh yes! Everything on this machine works perfectly :)
