We priced all of the gear listed on screen at the exact time of the edit. At that time, Amazon listed the Leatherman Squirt PS4 for $150 so that is the price we used on screen. It might've been out of stock or just really hard to find so the price was inflated. I bought it a few years back for about $35. Same thing happened to the Evernew Titanium Pasta Pot. It was listed at $100 when we made the video but a week later it was back down to $70. Good thing we didn't price out our gas for the rental car.
You DIDN'T encourage this a-holes to charge those prices by BUYING THEIR STUFF did you?
The squirt ps4 is only like $40... (google shopping The Free P4 which is the larger full stack leatherman is closer to $150. I will likely get a Squirt PS4 to replace my Gerber dime. The the inner spring mechanism broke (not the spring in the hinge but the support system in the frame), and Ive only used it for things like pulling out splinters and pulling broken zippers. It supposedly has a lifetime warranty, but Ive yet to get a response back from gerber after sending in the warranty claim.
Dan FYI it seems like someone is trying to scam your subs in telegram by using a fake Dan Becker page and posing as you. I almost fell for it. Unless it is you but Iâm highly doubting itâs you. Just want to give you a heads up to maybe send a disclaimer to your fans so they donât fall for what I Almost did. Much respect have a great night.
Hey Dan what was the app called you mentioned ? Onyx? Onx? Something like that ?
Many of the items you list are out of stock. Guess I am late watching the vids, and checking the sale sites.. well Amazon. Unless all outdoor content creators are featuring the same/similar gear. BTW.. I don't listen to those other folks! LOL.. well some of them..
For $700 that backpack better be magical. My entire load out didn't cost $700.
It had better levitate
@@monicageorgson4870 It better come with a date with Dua Lipa.
That truth
I could buy a full frame carbon fiber backpack for that much đ
Ha go look at packs for hunting. That's the baseline for most of them
For a $700 backpack, I expect it to be like the caddyshack golf bag! A stereo and a tent launch system that shoots out of the bag and sets up in the air!
I expect it to walk on its own
Haha love this comment.
Caddy shack golf bag đ
Such a great movie
If osprey actually sells many of them I'd be surprised. I work part time at an outdoor store for pro deals and a guy ordered one. I wasn't impressed vs what their cheaper bags offer or other brands. I honestly think this bag was made so they can come out with others and up the price and people won't think it's as crazy since there is a "$700 backpack"
I'd expect it to come with a Sherpa!
I havenât been backpacking since I was in scouts and have pretty well outgrown most of the stuff I had then (or have a better budget for the stuff I have and hated but couldnât replace then.) Iâve been watching videos to find pieces of gear other people like and pasting them in a notepad when I see something unique that I might want to consider and so I can compare later.
None of this is going in that notepad. đđđ
đđ
Haha đ....
That folding OG down beanie is nice though for a sorta decent price.
You gotta say notepad like you're from 'Sconcin... in honor of Danny boy lol...
Say it....notepe-ad....đ
I'm doing exactly the same thing, Ive been obsessed with researching good compact backpacking/bushcraft gear
I agree with you on the OV Ventus Hoodie. BTW, since you donât plan on using that Osprey pack, youâre welcome to send it my way!
As always, another fantastic video - good info, good pace, good dialog đ. And thanks for all of the links! Hope you guys had a great backpack.
Western Mountaineering bags are crazy good. I bought one about 25 years ago for a little less than 400 bucks as I recall. No regrets at all. Lifetime investment
goddamn im jealous. Ever since the pandemic, theres about a 3 year waitlist for a WM bag.
I have four of them, and they are the best piece of gear I've ever purchased. Enjoy.
If Im carrying down, itâs WM. The best. Period
Dan, the OR down hat you mentioned is actually called the OR Transcendent Down Beanie...I've had one for ages and love it for sleeping in or for sitting around on cold mornings. It's available in two colours but it always sells out very quickly in black so like like me you have the more common forest green version. Also, I think you will find that the best warmth to weight ratio of any sleeping bag belongs to one of both of the Rab Mythic Ultra's...The Mythic Ultra 180 (The one I use) is a 30'F sleeping bag that only weighs 400g (14oz)! And the Mythic Ultra 360 is a 17.6'F sleeping bag that only weighs 600g (21oz)! As you will expect, they are not cheap, but they have come down in price since I bought one...I paid nearly ÂŁ500 for my 180! The 360 used to be close to ÂŁ700, but I have now seen them going for as little as ÂŁ450, if you shop around, and believe it or not the 180 is now more expensive than the 360! Probably because of it's ultralight weight. They both have a high tech heat reflective silver Titanium coating inside which reduces the need to use so much Down, which in turn makes them lighter than conventional bags without this coating.
Dang it Dan! You are just a weekend warrior but you are soo damn addictive! I love your channel, Its like hiking with the guy who would slap the bear and outrun you. LOL.
Whatâs that supposed to mean, âJUST a weekend warriorâ? Iâm a weekend warrior, but formerly a thru-hiker.
You missed the GPS communicator subscriptions. Device $400. Max plan $65/month. Minimum just for SOS functions is $12/month.
Fun video as usual.. :D But a "typo"/error on the Leatherman Squirt multi-tool.. they sell for $40, NOT the $150 shown on screen! :D
I'd call Emmits' gear "pro grade" on most things.. stuff that'll last for many trips, hold up well and keep you safe.. all that important stuff! :D A lot of first-timers might balk at those prices.. but by borrowing (and/or renting) a few of the more expensive items, saving up, asking for particular items for birthday, graduation and other gift-giving occasions and such, it's not quite as bad $-wise as it might seem! :D And as far as weight.. other than those needing to carry a bunch of heavy/bulky camera gear, or added rescue type gear (Search and Rescue team members etc) "weight" of individual items is an important factor for sure, but as long as items are "reasonable", their weight should NOT keep someone from trying a backpacking trip or few! :D Many of us grew up carrying 35 to 45 lb packs for 5 to 8 day trips, and we had.. FUN! :D No, we didn't try to hike 20 miles a day, we adjusted our miles to the terrain, weather and load-out, and made memories of a lifetime! :D Here's to keeping it FUN! :D Cheers guys! :D
Thanks on the Squirt price, I was just about to look it up!
yeah I think what happened is whoever added those price graphics is not that familiar with Leatherman and they added the price of the Learherman Free P4 and not the Leatherman Squirt SP4.
Calgary Alberta Canada. Love your videos. Iâm 71 been in the outdoors all my life. I do a lot of kayak camping. I tried that32 Unltd but too small. I ended up with the Hyperlite 2400 a itâs perfect. I splurged after this video and bought the Samaya 2.5. Love this tent. Western Mountaineering MEGALITE. Great 3 seasons bag. The rest is incidental life stuff. My pack weighs 15.6 pounds before food and water and use water filters for keep the weight down. Keep up with your videos. I enjoy them.
For all those who bought high-end gear 10-15 years ago: "Those prices seem pretty reasonable"
Facts
this was way more enjoyable than watching someone show off their fancy car, house, etc. show me that lux gear!! Fun video.
Dan, I tried several expensive modern style packs and never settled on one I liked. I went back to my beloved old school alice pack. Yep, the ones from the old days with the exposed aluminum frame. There was a catch though. I found a company in the northeast called The Hidden Woodsmen that do several different style packs and supporting gear. They make all their gear in house, and are a veteran owned/operated company. They do what they call a tropical ruck pack that completely replaces the alice pack, kidney belt, and shoulder straps onto your frame using all modern materials and buckles/hardware. The kidney belt is much more padded and larger, the shoulder straps are as well, and adjustment is easy. I load this thing down with 35 to 40 pound and it doesnât feel like Iâm carrying near that much. The belt loads the weight on my hips so well that my shoulders are only keeping the load balanced. Nothing is touching my back, there is literally three or four inches between most of my back and the pack. I hate how most packs sweat me to death. I would love for you to do a test and review on a piece of old school gear like this, but be careful. You might like it too much! Check it out at risk of it becoming a favorite part of your collection. At less than $300 bucks, itâs not going to be wasted money I promise.
Seems like this pack is discontinued now. Kind of a shame, I'd like to have a modern alice pack.
I live in the Alps and i own a Samaya Tent since a year now. Itâs the best 4-Season Tent i have ever used. Itâs much better then the Hilleberg Unna and i love the additional vestibule. This year Samaya presents the âRadicalâ Line. This Tent weight only 7oz, but i cost 1.600$ đ
Fantastic video, Dan!! Love the way you did this
Great video. I love all of my Outdoor vital's ventus! I can't wait to get their raincoat.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Just fantastic Dan.
It was great running into you and Emmitt on the Lost Creek Trail. Again, your advice on sleeping set ups has changed my hiking life!
Great meeting you as well!! Hope your hike was great!!
Love the vids guys...just discovered you guys recently keep up the good work!!
Just found your channel, loving the content keep it up!
Loved it. Iâm 6â9â tall though and a lot of gear I get is completely based on size. I went with the Paria Arches for example instead of the Lanshan just because of the difference in length. Sleeping bag, and sleeping pad same thing. Iâm still looking for backpacking clothes for my size, and just bought the zpacks Arc Blast because they carried a backpack for my extremely tall torso length. I barely fit into anything I have but I make it work lol. Iâm at the end of the scale for anything related to backpacking. Thanks for all the info on some of the gear youâre using, as Iâm in the market for a new rechargeable headlamp and I think I can easily afford a $65 one if it works well, and has a red light setting.
Hey Kris, I'm 6'8 and would be very curious to know your load out! Tent, Matress, tent, etc! Thanks
@@ppaul2246 I bought the Paria Arches 2 person trekking pole tent. I wish it was a few inches longer to be honest. I bought the sea to summit sleeping pad, itâs the longest one I could find at the time. I use the Eolus 15 degree sleeping bag and again, itâs just long enough and I wish it was a few inches longer. I also wear a size 16 shoe, and just bought the Altra Lone Peak 7âs last week and love them!
I had paria Bryce 1p tent year ago and I liked so much. So light and compact with a lot of room. Only downside is front porch its quite small.
Awesome video thanks Dan and Emmit!!
Great video. This is one of my newest fave channels.
I thought my loadout was modest but this loadout makes mine look downright cheap!
Backpack = $220 (Granite Gear Blaze 60)
Tent = $160 (Naturehike Mongar 2)
Sleeping Bag = $180 (Nemo Disco 15)
Misc = ~ $190 (poles, pad, utensils, stove etcâŠ)
Total = ~ $750
Love your videos, this is a great comparison!
Bought my grandson Western Mountaineer bag for his AT hike and I use it now. Love it
Dan I Enjoyed This Alot Very Wise Informative Thank You. The Hat Is Worth 40 Down Fill Is Very Very Artsy To Make Sure Feathers Are Sown Together Very Tight Warm And Light Weight I Have The Down Blankets My Grandma And Aunts Would Make And I Watched Them Very Very Time Consumming And Alot Of Hard Work. I Still Have And Use Them Great Hand Qualityâ€â€â€
Awesome video!! Itâs been hit and miss on spending money for good kit when cheapâŠinexpensive kit will do the same thing. Iâd like to see the weights between the packs.
Back in the days, I went on a mountain with my worn out running shoes, jeans, T-Shirt and a thick branch as a walking stick and it worked, altough it wasnÂŽt an ideal setup. After I experienced that my tight jeans torn apart (what brought my on an awkward situation) IÂŽve decided to invest in proper clothes and also gears...experiences makes you buy the right things; boredom the luxury things, which you donÂŽt really need...
Hilltop Packs is my jam! This was a pretty awesome video, Dan! Not sure I'd spring for the tent or pack but it's super cool to see the Cadillacs!
I hiked this trail last year with a couple of buddies and took a "shortcut". While it did shorten our arrival time, the trail on the shortcut disappeared, there was no way back due to some technical sections, and we were pretty lost for a while lol.
Nice packing for Samaya tent. I have Hilleberg, also super expensive and heavy by todayâs standards. Thanks for splashing out for us on expensive backpack. I did drop a tear when you looked at backpack and said it was pretty epic⊠: )
14:45 this is half the reason why I love your videos so much đ
Emit is a great edition to the channel. I love how you can just play off him. Creates a more pleasant viewing experience. Oh and has anyone ever told you that you look like John Krasinski?
Dan, I think my husband has you beat on the sleeping bag, LOL! He just got a custom Feathered Friends Flicker Wide/Long Sleeping Bag/Quilt, 10 degree bag (4 oz overfill). Original price was $629 but since it was a return (never used), the nice people at FF offered it to him for the same price as my FF Flicker Wide/Regular at $519! What a deal. He sleeps cold so the fact that the return was a 10 degree bag and the Flicker only goes down to a 20 degree bag, he really scored. We can't see spending over $5K on backpacking gear but a great sleeping bag is a must no matter what the price. Some things you can't put a price on. đ
I slept as well in my FF as at home. Totally worth it IMO.
@@ericpmoss Me too! It will replace my FF Penguin 10 degree bag as my favorite sleeping bag/quilt!
Hey Dan, Awesome video, as usual. Please do a review on the Zoleo satellite communicator. It is half the cost on the I reach mini. Thanks!
Very entertaining video - really like the look of that tent :)
I love this trail. The campsite across from Harmonica Arch is outstanding!
I was literally just out there backpacking this weekend!!
Osprey makes an excellent pack, but $700? I use the Osprey Atmos AG 50, and I have no doubts that it carries just as well as that one for a third of the price
Also in general I feel this setup is only realistic if you literally don't have to care about money. Even if the average person saved up for it you would constantly worry about stuff happening to it, whether that be wear and tear or theft on the trail. I don't want to have to be gentle with my gear.
I agree. I donât see how this pack could outperform appreciably over the Atmos.
@@SophisticatedDogCatto get things 90% perfect is cheap itâs going over that is where it gets really expensive. Get slightly better cost another 100
@@caseychaffin5445 Exactly, which is why I said thereâs no appreciable gain with the extra cost. Hyperlite Mountain Gear is cheaper than the Atmos and a better, lighter pack anyways. This $700 Osprey deal is simply dumb.
Love that a helinox chair was on the budget list đ€Ł men after my own heart
Oh man I have done that trail many times. Love it
I just saw the super expensive osprey at a local outfitter - I was getting the osprey exo fitted to me and saw it - when the person helping me told me it was $700 - I didn't even touch it. I do like that $1000 tent
As someone who sells both, if you were getting fitted for an Exos I wouldnât have bothered to recommend an UNLTD since the use and class of bag is quite different. If youâre in that superlight category of backpack, youâll be far more satisfied and save about $500 for weight upgrades elsewhere in the kit to better enjoy the trail.
I bought 3 zero degree bags from outdoor vitals at great price several years ago. I remember when they first started advertising their slogan was â affordable outdoor gear â . I know itâs hard to keep costs down but theyâre just as expensive as everyone else and even more . So my question is what happened to the affordable gear company?
And it's made in China gear at that and still as expensive as the US made gear
This was a fun video. Tents are a strange product. I had a 1 person and fairly light. I went into REI and they showed me a 2 person tent that was lighter. I bought it and it takes under 3 minutes to set up. I really do not think 2 people could sleep in it; but still roomier than my 1 person.
About the Samaya tents: you didn't mention it's a single wall tent, which makes it a decent bit more roomy than other models for that weight. (Unless you go to trekking pole tents but than you give up some other features). The Dyneema is much stronger than thin nylon tents of similar weight and the samaya doesnt gather condensation on the inside, despite being single walled. I worked at a store where we got a few of these to test out, and they did deliver on what they promised. I'd never spend that much on a tent, but it is a very durable, strong, all weather tent with plenty of space for a light weight.
I use the heavier 1P & 2P models from Hilleberg for above tree line (Soulo and Staika), and I love the greater protection from snowstorms with their double walls, but I'd like to get my hands on the Samaya3.0 for a lager and lighter 2 person setup in similar conditions to see how it rocked...I'm sure it lives up to its name and price point, but I still love me those heavy double walls :)
Not going to lie - that tent looked pretty sweet! I take issue with the MSR tent pegs. I stepped on one once and it punched through my Crocs and almost into my foot. Would have been a real emergency. I donât like the sharp head and I replaced mine with the aluminum hook shaped ones.
Ok I better see a view on this tent & backpack, very curious on how well it will hold up.
Love the video (especially the sarcasm).
I love your attitude. You remind me so much if John Krasinski. Height and build and humour.
Yeppers your my teacher as well getting reacquainted with camping gear to make a bug out bag for my daughter and of course hiking as well still the best Iâve chosen among my go to people!!!!
Great Video Dan and Emmett
My big 3 cost almost $1800 with my pack, Seek Outside Unaweep 4800 in Ultra 400 material costing the most at almost $800. Worth every penny though. Haha. Tent is a Nemo Dagger 3p that I also love.
I did a double take on the Leatherman PS4 since I have one sitting in front of me on my desk. $40 at the moment, I paid $25 years ago so I was like wait what.
No surprises here to me. The cook kit was a good one to point out. Easy to go cheap there and still have the same functionality. I always advise people not to cheap out on their sleep system. And invest in a good pack and shelter. My pack was like $145 and the shelter was like $138. The shelter was a great deal for a 4 season setup (used in all 4 from 17°-70°) weighing just over a pound. You don't have to spend a fortune to get a decent setup and get out there in most cases.
Whatever listing they found that had the ps4 at $140 had to either be a typo in the price (someone accidentally typed a 1 in front of $40) or a vendor that seriously overpriced it, which is something I've seen on stuff a few times on Amazon.
I believe the Montbell 1000 plasma down puffy is the most expensive on the market. Love my MHGW and just got a EE Torrid which weighs about the same but synthetic and just as warm. If money were no object Iâd like to order Montbell to test it out. Donât own anything arcteryx simply because itâs $$$$ but sometimes itâs better to buy once cry once.
Would be interesting to see a spreadsheet of the two setups with prices and weights totaled for comparison.
For example, Dan Emmet
Tent Samaya $1,100 3 lb 2 oz Bryce1p $145 2 lb 15 oz (the Samaya is a 2p, equivalent Bryce is $165 3 lb 7 oz)
Pack Osprey ULTD $700 5 lb 8 oz OV Shadowlight $199 1 lb 15.5 oz
Bag WM Versalite $650 2 lb 2 oz OV quilt $315 1 lb 12 oz
Totals for big three: $2,450 10 lb 12 oz $659 6 lb 12.5 oz
Emmet's gear weighs 4 lbs less and cost $1,791 less. Shows you that price is not always a good indicator, depending on your needs. The most overweight and overpriced piece of Dan's gear is the Osprey pack, depending, again on your use. I have an ancient Gregory pack, from back when they were still their own company and made in the US, it is heavy, will carry a really heavy load (like 100 lbs), and is just a bomb proof expedition pack. But it weighs about 8 lbs.
Was just at Lost Wilderness last month. Some interesting choices, although the tent seemed like a bust for me. I would go Big Agnus crazy light models instead.
I have an osprey atmos AG 65 pack. That system is incredible. Feels like nothing on your back. But mine was half the price.
All of this stuff is for people who can afford the best of the best, cost no object. It is definitely nice, but also definitely not needed to have a great time on the trail. Great video!
Not necessarily all of this stuff, but most.
The tent stakes for example are a bit pricey, but at 25 bucks for 6 still affordable enough for most people. If your tent costs 300 bucks, might as well spend the 50 for these stakes (they're absolutely great, love them).
The rain jacket is also not on the top end of the spectrum, still relatively affordable (230 bucks is a lot of money, but quite a few people will spend this much on their rain jacket).
Hi Dan! Love your content, have you done a video on how to best wear a backpack? In terms of where you want the belt to sit, how tight around the shoulders? I have been backpacking for a while now, but I am still not sure sometimes if any pain is because of the weight or if I am not wearing the bag well.
I'm not Dan, but I'm 73 and learned to backpack in Special Forces in Norway. Do you bench 350? Squat 500? Or are you skinny and can run for 30 miles at a clip? Everybody is different. If your pack weighs 90 pounds, it's going to get uncomfortable at some point during the day. If it is under 40 you should be able to carry it with moderate discomfort for 20 miles. If its below 30 then if you are feeling pain, either you are out of shape, or it doesn't fit. Modern packs are meant to have the tops of your hip bones midway on the waist belt. If that works for you, then good. If it doesn't then keep making adjustments till you feel better. The shoulder straps on modern packs have the ability to shift the load bearing. With the hip belt centered and snug, try different positions on the shoulder straps by pulling the load bearing straps tighter. The hips are important in going uphill and downhill. Try different strides with the hips in different positions when defending and ascending. Proper weight distribution when packing the bag is important. Most outdoor stores have weighted stuff sacks to load your pack and allow you to try different positions. If things just seem not right, they probably aren't. You get to play with your own setups until you are the most comfortable. Your milage may vary.
I have to admit that I do have one of the items on your expensive list in my backpack, the Tyvek! Oh wait.
Hyperlite Mountain Gear the Shell rain jacket. $475. Still have mine. Wish we could get enough people to demand they remake them. Iâve had it since 2018 and itâs still going. So, in my opinion, you buy nice things and take care of them, theyâll last forever.
Rewatching this one, but Iâd love to hear more about Lost Creek Wilderness. How many nights did yâall do? Was it worth the trip? Any info would be great.
New to the channel and loving it. Funny note: without the title/description this just seemed like a pompous flex on Emmit. Other than that, great videos.
Love it, I'm a gear junkie. Nothin is too expensive lol I gotta hav the best. U forgot price of your Patagonia orange jacket.
Hilleberg Tents are the best of the best by far but with massive price tags! Some of their tents cost twice as much or more than the Samaya Tent featured in this video. Hilleberg Tents have been used as Mount Everest base camp tents!
Got mine used in great shape , for about half price . Crazy stoopid đexpensive. đ€·đŒââïžidk I love them đ đ
AN $1100 TENT?! For that much I should walk into camp and a concierge should show me to the tent which is already setup for me. WOW! The total is insane.
So many youtubes of various subject are folks bragging about overspending an/or being over equipped.
I feel like this video was the excuse video to the wife to buy all the expensive thingsđ
If you wanted an arguably better rain jacket that is also a bit more expensive, check out the GORE WEAR R7 Shakedry Trail Jacket. That thing is crazy and I want one. Also, that Leatherman price is really high. Pretty sure I bought one for around $45 or $50 new straight from their site.
Hey Dan, awesome video as always! The down hat you were using - does the down become compressed with it being stored all bundled up like that?
Thanks! I donât store it compressed at home. If youâre just talking about in your backpack for a backpacking trip, I wouldnât worry about it at all. You need to compress down for a few weeks at a time before it has any serious effect on loft.
I used that hat in the NH winter. It performs great
That backpack intrigues me, how does it carry its load? I have an old shoulder injury from a car accident that makes normal backpacks a no go for how the weight is distributed. Depending on how it sits it might be an option? Does it come in one size or multiple sizes? As it stands I can never backback anywhere ever because of the stupid shoulder, so if there was an option that made backpacking accessible, yes please.
As with litterally EVERYTHING you can always get 90% there for 1/4 the price. I tend to carry 5 lbs more but that 5 lbs saved me $3000......Gasp.....Lol
On a side note I would add that I use the Osprey Aether 55 and up to 35lbs it is unbelievably comfortable! I think the only advantage of the more expensive Osprey pack would show up under a 50lb load. I do have a Eberlystock backpack that carries 120 lbs more comfortably than any backpack I have ever owned, however it is designed for packing meat out of hunting camp! I did use it for 3 years backpacking, however in the search for less weight, and a little more function, I switched to the osprey aether 55 for backpack camping trips. In all fairness my Eberlystock system was $500, has a frame packboard with the best padding I have seen. The Osprey Aether however is the best bang for the buck I have found at just under $300 and when kept to 35lbs is just as comfortable. I think the biggest secret to backpack comfort is keeping them within there designed weight parameters
$700 backpack! Wow! At that price it should carry me!
I will stick to my $200 Deuter.
Nice video. Thanks!
Definitely some interesting engineering went into that ruck! Too rich for my blood but cool!
One of the packs I run was probably close to 700.00 when I bought it close to 10 years ago. It's a Kifaru timberline 2 with a duplex frame. 7000ci and built to carry a lot of weight, 130+ lbs and I've pushed it to 100+ pounds more times than I care to admit. It's a lot of pack for a lot of money designed for a particular job and it's worth every penny.
How far would you want to go with that much weight? And how much to you weigh? For reference I weigh around 140lbs so doubling my weight feels like an incredibly stupid thing to do.
Well if I was through hiking and going to live with a back pack for a year or so your experience with this pack might make it worth the price.
Granted there are good/great packs⊠but the âbest pack I ever used.â Might be worth it if you are carrying it for a while and can afford it..
Yeah
I have a venture, I agree it is awesome. I would by it again at this price
It absolutely is worth it for the Osprey. The Katadyn befree filters are trash. I always get a little pinhole leak after about 30 fills
I am assembling my gear, shooting for MOR priced gear. Cook system: covered. Pack: covered. Sleep system: not covered. Still investigating tents, pads, sleep quilt/wool blanket, as well as axe, folding saw.
what is your honest opinion about the hyperlite mountain gear packs vs the ov shadowlight pack?
ONx maps is really good. I use their property lines map when I am metal detecting and photographying so I know where not to go.
My backpacking tent cost me $60 and weighs less than 3 pounds. $60! Iâve taken it to the wind river range in Wyoming, the Smokies (twice), and Rim Country in Arizona.
The Terra Nova Voyager Ultra 2 is ÂŁ2000 in the UK. So more in dollars. About twice the cost of Dan's tent. PHD M Degree 400 K sleeping bag is ÂŁ854. There's kit out there which is plenty more expensive that what Dan has found.
Did you find the Versalite better than the Alpinlite? I have an Alpinlite but I donât think I would take it into the 20âs. How did the width compare? Thx keep on keepin on!
I personally like the Columbia titanium with the reflective material.
Im never going camping but i love watching these vids
If you want the warmest jacket get the old Army smokers jackets. Very cheep and they can make winter feel like summer
That backpack comes with a butler that carries it for you right ? Hence the zero gravity effect on the camper. LOL
I bought my sleeping bag (Mac Pack NZ) w thermarest and hiking boots (scarpa) over 30 years ago. The gear was about the prices you're giving here - the difference b/t this and "cheaper" / moderately prices gear, is that I still have it all, in near perfect condition, and use it constantly.
It's good to see what you can get when money isn't an object but is it really worth it when you can do it for literally a quarter of the price my whole set up comes to around ÂŁ300
Another thought would be to just rent or buy a Sherpa to carry all your gear! đ
Enjoyed the comparisons.
I donât know if you can get Arcâteryx in the states, but their jackets are made of Gortex and they cost up to $800, so thereâs definitely more expensive jackets you could try out.
No Way Dan I just did the lost creek loop on 6/11-6/12 too. Missed ya on the trail
Fun vid guys!
Not one mention of FjĂ€llrĂ€ven đ
Wow, the inflation! I got my Leatherman Squirt for $40 on Amazon last year.
