  • Join me for a walk around one of the UK's most beautiful Victorian towns: the historic spa town of Harrogate. Located between the major cities of Leeds and York, this once small village has blossomed over the last two centuries to become one of the country's most beloved towns, home to gorgeous architecture, affluent neighbourhoods and delicious spring waters.
As we walk around Harrogate, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including Harrogate Cenotaph, Bettys Tea Room, the Montpellier Quarter, The Crown Hotel, The Royal Pump Room, Valley Gardens, Crescent Gardens, Harrogate Council Offices (formerly Victoria Baths), The Royal Baths, The Royal Hall, Harrogate Convention Centre, St. Peter's Church, Harrogate Theatre and the Victoria Shopping Centre.
Also, I'd like to say a massive thank you to everybody for 100 subscribers to the channel! I really hope you're all enjoying these videos, and I'm so grateful to all of you who have watched, liked, commented and subscribed! I'm looking forward to exploring more of Britain with you in 2021 (and if we're lucky, maybe even further afield...)

Enjoyed this video. Excellent walk-path with some outstanding history, tips and local insight. We will be visiting mid-June of 2022 -- three days on our own and another in the area on tour for three days with a professional tour company. This was a great "tease" for us! Thanks! I realize this was almost a year ago, but it's incredible how empty the city was -- despite COVID-19 restrictions. Too bad. Hope their economy has recovered over the past year.

I used to love been there in Harrogate has it used to be back in the late seventies when it was lovely and exciting with the lovely shops and the ABC cinema which sadly has now gone forever. Those real antique shops then held real bargains and the cosy atmosphere of the cafes. While it has changed so much its still a fine place to visit but nothing can replace the true quality of old town Harrogate.

It's interesting how a town as quaint and ornate as Harrogate still changes so much! Lovely to hear some of those memories of the town from back in the day, but as you say Harrogate is still a fine place indeed :)

I would love to return someday to Harrogate town but sadly I lost my friend of many years to the virus this year and it would bring back too many memories for now going there. One day I will return to enjoy it in its new form I hope because it still holds very good times there ! A place I will always love and want.

You've done it again. I used to work in Harrogate (local authority) and lived in Knaresborough. I did and do find Harrogate a pretentious place with a few troubled areas.
Shame you didn't show the Stray or a mention of Agatha Christie's stay at the Old Swan Hotel. She was "missing" for Eleven days causing a nationwide hunt.
As usual a splendid video. Very well done......You must go through a lot of foot leather.

Harrogate is my favourite place to visit in the UK, I travel over there every year for the beer festival at The Crown Hotel (we just made it in 2020 3 weeks before lockdown!). William & Victoria's tea room is a hidden gem of the town, Lucia's, The Cold Bath Brewery and all the wonderful shops, cafes, restaurants inbetween are a must see.

I'm quietly working my way through all your videos, LW. This is my favourite so far. Such a beautiful town. I'd love to see you do a tour of English spa towns. Unlike other walking vlogs you really put an effort into researching the locations. You really deserve a much bigger audience but I feel sure that will come. I don't know of any other walking vlogger who covers the North, as you do. I say that as someone living in London.

Charles - thank you so much for your comment! It's the nicest thing I've heard so far, and I've had some really wonderful comments from everybody. I'm really glad you're enjoying the videos, I do my best to give a good view of every place I visit.
The spa towns are indeed very beautiful, I'll make sure to make a video in all of them - but Harrogate is a great place to start off with!
And I love covering the North so much, there are so many underrated places in the region - but I've also got some videos from the South and the Midlands coming over the next month too, so I hope you enjoy those too.
Again, thank you so much for watching and for your comment - it's really made my day :)

@@LetsWalkUK You're very welcome, LW. A tip would be to contact other walking vloggers with much bigger subscription numbers. A mention from just one of them can swell your viewers considerably. Urbanist, who is a New York walking vlogger, is very generous that way. He is planning to visit England post -lockdown and has made a point of saying that he is interested in visiting the less travelled road. The walking vloggers tend to be generously spirited. Maybe hit the northern coastal towns as the weather improves to get hits from the tourists. Personally, I'm hoping you visit Ilkely one day. Keep up the great work, LW.

And Ilkley is very much near the top of my list for new videos to make, so you can definitely expect to see that at some point during the year :)

Hi there! I can't speak from experience having only lived in Leeds in Yorkshire - but I can tell you from research that one of the best places to live in Yorkshire is the delightful town of Skipton, where house prices are a little lower than the likes of Harrogate and Wetherby - some of the more expensive places in the county :)
