- Join me for a walk around the centre of Ripon, the third-smallest city in England! However, what Ripon lacks in size, it more than makes up for in beauty and historical value, with a fascinating history dating back well over 1,000 years. It may feel like a small town, but Ripon is without doubt one of England's great cities!
On our walk around Ripon, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including Market Place, Cabmen's Shelter, Ripon Town Hall, Kirkgate, Ripon Cathedral, Kirkgate Archway, The Royal Oak Pub, New Life Church, The Unicorn Hotel, the Victorian Workhouse Museum, Allhallowgate Methodist Church, the Prison & Police Museum, Ripon Bus Station, The Arcade and Ripon Obelisk.

Thanks for the tour. Nice old town with a wonderful Cathedral which though much smaller than nearby York yields nothing to its neighbour in architectural beauty and interest. I love the fusion of Romanesque with early to late Gothic.

Last time I was staying in Knaresborough, I took a bus from Harrogate (maybe the one you mentioned) to Ripon. Almost as soon as I got there I wished I'd given it more time. The minster is small compared to York, but it's still amazing. I could have spent hours just walking around inside. I had a quick walk around the middle of the city, a bite at the Wetherspoon's, and back to the bus.

I think you had the exact same day as me! I visited Knaresborough, Harrogate and Ripon all in one day - a trio of quite delightful towns (and cities!) It's certainly a small place but there's a lot to see - I'll certainly be returning again to discover more :)

@@LetsWalkUK Next time I'm there, whenever that may be, I want to visit Fountains Abbey. I've heard it's within walking distance of Ripon. I don't drive in the UK. Too afraid I'll find myself on the wrong side of the road.
@@dlittlester ha ha! I remember turning on to the “wrong” side of the road in L.A. some years ago, gave me a real fright but it cured me, never did that again😁

PS Have you thought about putting out the same content as a few separate clips divided into sections, perhaps 2-3 minutes each? Use the short ones to nudge people to watch the longer ones. Works well and can help more people to see your content that way 👍
@@StephenBeale That's a really good suggestion! So far, many of my shorter videos haven't been as popular, which is why I'm currently making big walks of between 15 mins and 1 hour of each town - but I've been thinking of doing 'highlights' packages for a while too :)

Wow. Ripon looks V quiet for 23rd December. Just Before Xmas....me and Hubby went to Ripon about 5 years ago now....We were staying in quaint old village called Middleham where all the Racehorses are trained.... Great job 👍✅😁

@@LetsWalkUK Yes . Middleham North Yorkshire is Stunning.... If you Go- you have to be up early to film 🎥 the Racehorses about 6/7 am. As they head off too the Gallops...If you missed them early you can always catch them as the Horse's head back too the Stables for a well earned breakfast.... keep bringing out your fantastic videos & your subscribers will go up and up. .....

I have never been to Ripon but I feel you have caught the essence of the place.
It is sad that most of our people have little or no interest in our cathedrals and minsters.
Ripon's is Romanesque and Gothic as cameronpaul writes (below) and it reflects such beauty on this handsome town.
I live in Ripon and it’s a lovely little city. Shame you missed off the courthouse museum (which you passed when at the cathedral) and if you had proceeded just a little further instead of turning into High Skellgate you could have got the lovely spa gardens, spa hotel and out little hospital in the video too. Sadly you walked right past the wakeman house cafe (corner of the square) which dates back to late medieval times and is one of the most recognisable buildings in Ripon.
