  • HARROGATE in North Yorkshire is a town just outside the Yorkshire Dales, and is home to the famous Betty's Tea Rooms, Turkish Baths, Winter Gardens and Royal Baths so how could we resist filming a tour of Harrogate Town Centre!?
When we arrived in Harrogate and parked up in the town centre close to Bettys Tea Room we saw straight away that this was going to be an historic town that we would love!
Setting off from close to Harrogate Railway Station we pass through the town centre streets and shops (Harrogate has some really great shopping!) and make our way down to Bettys Tea Rooms before walking down to the old Winter Gardens (now Wetherspoons!), the Turkish Baths, and round to the Royal Baths which we found was now a Chinese Restaurant!
Welcome to Harrogate - a Victorian spa town and rural district that contains the medieval city of Ripon, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and four charming but very different market towns; Boroughbridge, Knaresborough, Masham and Pateley Bridge.
In the heart of Yorkshire, this is your perfect base for a day, a weekend or a week. Indulge your passions and your senses and visit the Harrogate area for a memorable break. With such a varied range of events in Harrogate, you will find there is always something taking place to capture your interest
For a comfortable stay you will find a comprehensive range of accommodation in Harrogate offering something for everyone, from convenient and cosmopolitan townhouses to remote and idyllic country cottages.
Your visit can be as active or as indulgent as you like when you explore things to do in Harrogate. With the Yorkshire Dales on the doorstep there is plenty of scope for adventure activities during your stay, from mountain biking to rock climbing and abseiling, or just a bracing walk across the fells. Whatever your interests, let us inspire you to make more of your visit.
For the more metropolitan, the reputation of our shopping streets for exquisite retail opportunities is well deserved and our spa heritage is evident to this day with spa treatments new and old available.
Yorkshire prides itself on its food and drink, and Harrogate District flies this flag with pride, from our own gin, to the delicious local produce available across our towns. As well as familiar names you will find independent restaurants offering carefully prepared ingredients served to please the eye as well as the appetite.
Harrogate is a town in North Yorkshire, England, east of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Its heritage as a fashionable spa resort continues in the Montpellier Quarter with the Royal Pump Room Museum, documenting the importance of local mineral springs. Nearby is the restored, Moorish-style Turkish Baths & Health Spa. To the west, leafy Valley Gardens features the art deco Sun Pavilion
Set in the heart of Yorkshire, the Harrogate District is one of the most spectacular areas of England with attractive towns and villages, imposing historic houses, castles, abbeys, beautiful countryside and a host of other natural and man-made attractions. Expect exquisite gardens, beautiful parks, handsome tree-lined boulevards and a chance to lose yourself in the vibrant charm and elegance of this North Yorkshire destination.

I absolutely loved this, brought back so many happy memories. I was brought up in Harrogate and even now, 66 years on since I left, I still regard it as home. Would have loved to see more of the Valley Gardens where we used to go for our Sunday afternoon walks and was surprised you didn't mention The Royal Hall as you passed by. I used to Ice Skate there on Saturday mornings. Such nostalgia. You have made me want to go back again to relive it all and it is now definitely on my wish list for later this year. Thank you.

I grew up in Harrogate, then moved to Australia in 83, we have not been back for about 10 years and much seems to have changed. A comment on Betty's, I had a client in Perth WA who asked me where I came from and I said Harrogate, his immediate response was ahh the home of Betty's, when I asked him how he knew Betty's his response was if you are the the cafe business and you don't know Betty's then you are not doing your job very well. My first experience at Betty's was when I was 16 and I took my girlfriend there for a coffee, the staff ignored us, they probably thought we could not afford it. Been back heaps of times since and go to the one at Harlow Car next to the RHA Gardens (another place you could walk).
Great tour keep up the good work.

Thank you so much for this. I lived in Harrogate between 1969 and 1971 as a boy. I never really appreciated what a lovely place it was at that age. Great to see that it still has loads of character and real shops. Shame that the indoor market is no longer there. I'd like to go back for a visit.

What an absolutely charming place. Yorkshire has shocked me, to be honest. I haven't been to Leeds for probably over 2 decades, and the improvements they have made are vast!
Harrogate has just topped it all off. As a Londoner, I am completely ashamed to say that in comparison, the centre of Leeds is far better and charming and miles cleaner than London.
I am going within the next few weeks to both places, and if I like it that much, I may just start looking for property up here and look to retire in the North.
Well done on the videos, and keep up the good work. God bless you.

I live in Harrogate (The Gateway To The Yorkshire Dale`s) and love the place, btw you referred to Station Parade as quite a busy street, it was a Bank Holiday, Station Parade is a VERY busy street and is the main (only) Southbound route through the town because our local council loves poorly thoughtout one way streets and pedestian only streets. Voted as best place to live in the UK several times, if only we had a competant council, then We would be voted best even more often. Still it is a lovely place to live, and so much to see on your doorstep.

@@Michelle-qd9gm Harrogate Town Centre is exactly 20 Miles from York City Centre. 30 Minute drive (A59) in favourable traffic and also 30 minutes by local train service. There is no longer a direct bus service as it cannot compete with the rail service. The town is definately worth a visit, lots of green open spaces, high end shopping (other shops are available), several Tea Rooms, Turkish baths, lots of classical architecture, the world famous Valley Gardens and RHS Harlow Carr Gardens , the list is endless. Hope you get to visit.

Hello ... visiting in the summer. Would appreciate ideal places that are accessible as husband uses a scooter. Enjoyed your walk, a lot of places have accessible entrance so that's good. Can you suggest best places to park?

      Hi Linda!
Probably Station Parade near the Train Station
That would put you at the top of the hill on the flat bit

There are easy accessible multi storey car parks one attached to Victoria gardens a nice walk through under cover through the shopping centre plenty of lifts and also behind debenhams there's a carpark too town centre is a bit limited for parking some only have 20 minutes but there are many long stays hope this helps

I think that Harrogate is fantastic but its very expensive to live there , the council is very greedy and so are the rip off landlords. The last time I was there, in that park with the statues in a glass case, the shelter to the left was home to a lot of down and out drunkards who were making life a misery for locals. They'd been brought in by a local council official and the whole town was angry about what she had done. I recommend The Welford guest house in Franklin Road if you are staying for a while. Its absolutely excellent.

Why not show the Stray and the Valley Gardens even the historic Pump house? Maybe for your next tribute to Yorkshires Diamond Harrogate 💎

Harrogate and the people who live there think they are much better than they really are I'm afraid. As spar towns go bang average.Be careful of the many drug addicts too not included on this video.
