This wolf hybrid (Raven) passed away in November of 2015 (after this video was published). For two decades, no less than 20 different dogs were adopted to my home of two acres from "kill" shelters. But having this journey for 12 years with Raven is one that shaped my life and one that I will never forget. They teach you to live in the moment and to be honest about your current mental state. Although I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, there is a reason why the Native Americans saw them as great teachers.
I got him from an exotic pet shop in Brunswick, Ohio and he was listed as 90% Timber/Tundra and the rest German Shepherd. There is no way he was that high of percentage but unfortunately I had him before genetic testing became available. I would have estimated him at around 60%. I can tell you from my vast experience dealing with a lot of large gaurd dogs that he had wolf-like traits and my vet who also worked on wolf farms, agreed.
There are a few owners of wolf-hybrids on CZcams that take themselves way too seriously and suggest that having one as a companion cannot be done and will talk down to the viewers with a superiority complex. It CAN be done but takes A LOT of sacrifices to lifestyle and a willingness to understand that patience is a must and the ability to keep ones temper and ego in check is also a must.
Side note: The propane tank that a lot of you are triggered about was during the first year I bought this house and I had to go through that winter without a furnace. I can tell you during early February when it's sub zero outside, electric space heaters don't cut it lol.

Laser pens aren’t actually good toys for cats and dogs. They have a psychological need to catch their prey. Never catching it, never being able to feel it under their paws, or in their mouths, or on their whiskers gets very frustrating for them.

I've never owned a dog, but dog owners have told me that there's a play growl that carries a separate meaning from a real growl
I think that’s to show submissiveness. I saw a wolf documentary and they do it too, so it’s an assumption.
Growling especially in wolves isn’t always a sign of aggression. Even some dogs will growl when they are playing. A truly aggressive growl is more like a snarl and will be showing all the teeth
There are dog breeds that growl to communicate most things, like rotties. Dobermans show their teeth, but it's not always aggression.
Wolves also growl quite a bit, it's just how they communicate, not aggressive, just communicating.

@@daimonwings3838 if you meet a wolf stop and dont move. Let it sniff you, nudge you but dont move. If it gets too rough lay on your stomach with your arms drawn in and dont move. Eventually it will ignore you then slowly slip back away. Never stare at a wolf it is a challenge..

I have a wolf hybrid and Raven was clearly being playful despite what it might look. He was hopping around and wagging his tail, so on, his growls and barks were just talking that most domestic dogs don't do.

I imagine they weren't as interested in it as a cat would be because sight is actually their weaker sense. Their hearing is good and their smell is downright Uncanny, but their sight is actually worse than ours.

You hear so many awful stories of Wolf Dogs being abandoned because people are too inexperienced or have no real knowledge of how to manage them. They think that getting a wolf dog will be cool, but they don't think of the maintenance and the work that goes into being the owner of one of these animals.

@whozabcjc My older brother has a wolfdog here in the states. Her name is Sakari, one of the most prettiest dogs I've ever seen. She requires high maitenance but she is much more tamed and respects humans more than his rottweilers seem to. It's like you said, it really all depends and frankly she is not all wild as people make wolfdogs out to be. Some wolfdogs definitely need to be in sanctuaries whereas some can be living in a home. Btw, we found her from a shelter and her owners had abandoned her. She is a bit more than a quarter, but not quite half.
It's a little different but one of my old coworkers has a Dog that's part Coyote, and she brought him in a few times and he's a really friendly Dog

As the content becomes higher and with pure wolves, they do not bark, so that vicious growl is a sign of greeting. I have had them come up behind me after dark, and do that, while only inches away. Sneaking right up to you is a game with them,and Even knowing they are there, it still scares the heck out of you sometimes. I get that same sound every morning just before the crack of daylight, with her nose on my pillow. It means "let me out Dad, It's about to get daylight outside". She stays outside when it's cold, but sleeps inside on warm nights.

I had a wolf hybrid and a little dog when I was younger. The little dog would bite the wolf dog's tale and the wolf dog would pull the little dog around the yard at full speed. It was the funniest thing.

I grew up beside Raven, he was like a brother to me and being raised around him and the other dogs really changed who I am as a person. It taught me to be a very good judge of person and to really appreciate life and emotion. He was an amazing creature, he would love and protect yet would not compromise on the respect he demanded as a wolf. He played a part in raising me, and I’ll forever be thankful to him for that.

I literally grew up with this breed (i'm almost 24 now). They are nothing but warm-hearted and loyal dogs. I think the problem is that most 'agressive' dogs (maybe even dogs in general) are just misunderstood by humans. :/ I really hope I could become a owner of a Czechoslovakian wolfdog/Československý vlčák in the future (there're just a few breeders in The Netherlands). I think wolfdogs are very fascinating! I'm very interested in characteristic behaviour of wolfdogs, so I can become a great pact leader and can give them what they need. Btw I really liked your video! :)

I had a wolf hybrid (Rex) for 10 years. He was just the best, smartest, sweetest, great with children & animals, had his own cat, had an enormous vocabulary... Had a Malamute afterward, was wonderful, too. But Rex was very special. The bigger the dog, the shorter the lifespan, the larger the hole they leave in your life.

Such a gorgeous hybrid. But people seriously need to understand they're not pets. They get euthanized far to often 😔 They're definitely worth rescuing if you have the place and the space though. Such respectable creatures.
I agree. I love wolves but I would never keep one in captivity. That's not to say I don't think anyone is capable of providing good homes for them, but I knew one person who "rescued" a wolf hybrid from being euthanized, then she brought home and kept him in a cage because she realized he was aggressive. Poor animal had a miserable life after this.

I once dog sat a German Shepherd-wolf hybrid and she was the BEST dog-she laid down by my feet and put her head on my foot while I watched movies, when we went for walks she walked beside me without any tension in the leash, and she never made a sound. Just the sweetest, calmest, most loyal dog I’ve ever met. If I ever got a dog I’d hope to get one like her.
She was probably a husky mix unless you got her DNA tested.

@@Mayakran She probably didn't get pregnant by wolves. It was probably a random dog. Unless your dog was DNA tested the chances of you having a real wolfdog are slim to none.

@@Mayakran You really can't know that. Mixed dogs have mixed genetics and so they can look very different from other mixes.
