Glass Sealant and Coating Comparison | Which is the Best Glass Protection Product?
Vložit
- čas přidán 11. 06. 2024
- In this video, I'll be comparing 6 different glass protection products including sealants, a coating and a water-repellent glass cleaner. The products were: Rain-X, Pyramid Car Care Glass Coating, Detailic Platinum Glass Seal, GB Vitro Seal, Angelwax H2GO and Car Chem Clear View Glass Cleaner.
The categories I'll compare are: ease of application, chemical resistance (glass cleaners, snow foam and de-icer), initial water behaviour and price.
Pyramid Car Care Glass Coating and GB Vitro Seal were kindly sent for free by the respective brands, I won the Detailic Platinum Glass Seal in a giveaway and the rest of the products were bought myself. However, as always I'll be giving my honest thoughts and feedback.
*Edit: the price of the Detailic Platinum Glass Seal has now been reduced to £13 (writing this on the 28th April 2021). This makes the price per 2ml now £0.26, compared to £0.50 as stated in the video.

Heather I have to say that was an excellent video, arguably the best one you've made! You clearly put a lot of time and effort into this... And money!
It has paid off, excellent production, very well laid out, well narrated, good testing process (great to include de-icing stage!) and your audio was perfect throughout!
Genuinely fantastic job, really well done 👍🏼👍🏼🙌🏼
Thanks so much Mark, I really appreciate it! Hahaha the chemical resistance tests took way longer than expected but I suppose that’s a good thing in a way 😂 I was really interested just to see if the de-iced did much as Pyramid say that you shouldn’t use one with their coating. But after that, I feel like it wouldn’t be so bad to use it every now and again when I’m in a rush!
@@AutoCareHQ absolutely! I avoided using it all winter (I have H2GO on my own car) to avoid premature breakdown of the sealant... Luckily I have a Ford Quick Clear windscreen which actually works so was no big deal 🤣🤣 still great information though!
Really enjoyed that! Keep it up 😁👍🏼
❤
I've tried various rain repellents and always come back towards Rain-X, the key to getting it off is once it's dried a light spritz with water and it buffs off nicely. A similar product is Soft 99 Glaco, once its dried it buffs off no issue.
Great comparison Heather, really enjoyed that video! you can see a massive amount of time and effort has been put into it. Really great job.
Thanks very much Dave, really appreciate that! 😊
Great effort on the video, cleaning method & prep. Been a Rain-X and H2GO fan for many years, but have been using my current fav *AM Hybrid Detailer* for all my paintwork and glass-work LSP for the last year or so, highly recommend it.
Thanks very much for all your hard work making this excellent comparison video, Ive used rain x before and found it was good but awkward to apply, gonna give H2go a shot now, much appreciated
cheers
That's a thorough test heather, great work. Only used rain X as it was a make I knew of pre getting into detailing.
Thanks very much! I was really surprised at how well it stacked up against the rest here
Rain-X is very easy to buff off...You just have to do it in the right way.
1. Clean the window
2. Apply Rain-X
3. Use a sprayer with a mist patern to get the window wet.
4. Take the water off with microfiber and then you can buff the window easy without streaks. Water is your friend to get the window streak free.
Oauuu!!👍👏👏👏👏great video Heather, you put a lot of effort in this video , very well explained and edited!
I really like the chart thing, nicely done.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks very much Alan, very appreciated! 😊
Great video very thorough, well done
good job on the video demonstration and comparison! It's obvious that you spent a lot of time in creating this video. thanks!
Thanks very much Damien!
Great video Heather that's a good review of the products brilliant job.
Thanks very much for watching!
50% educational, 50% amazing accent. Love your videos 🙏🙏
Haha thank you very much! 😊
Great video Heather! I think this topic is very important by safety reasons. It was very nice to see how Rain-X performs compare to other detailing brands. I thought, one of the best choice on the market is Angelwax H2GO, until I watched your video tonight. Now, I'm more likely looking forward to get my hands on Pyramid Car Care's Glass Coating. However, your video proves that Rain-X still a great choice. Great content! Thank you Heather
Thanks very much! Completely agree, I feel so much better driving in the rain with a sealant/ coating on the windscreen. Even if the beads don’t fly off completely, I think it just helps with visibility overall. I was surprised that Rain-X outperformed Angelwax on the chemical resistance testing, I thought it would be one of the weakest being a really cheap product but it stood up really well! Thanks again for watching 😊
Good Review :)
1 thing missing though
widow wiper action
how does the blades glide across the glass now treated ??
The RainX comes as a squirting bottle sealant which you just add to your chosen applicator. Or can also buy a spray bottle glass cleaner with the hydrophobic sealant added. I've driven with light rain and dont even need the windscreen wipers on as the water just flies off the screen. The durability is excellent as well and is constantly topped up with the cleaner/sealant. It's even worth a squirt on the blades as its seems to make them glide more smoothly without the irritating squeaking noise. Great video as always Heather 👍🏼
Thanks very much! I’ll pick up some of their hydrophobic cleaner I think when I run out of the Car Chem one, they’re a great idea for maintaining the sealant/ coating. I’ve been lucky that my wipers don’t judder/ squeak, but I’ll be apply some to all my family’s cars soon now I know which ones work the best so it could be worth apply a bit to the wiper blades to be on the safe side there!
very well done! Interesting video
Bang on video loved the de iced test too often thought it effected coatings heavily tbh top video
Thanks very much! I thought de-icers would be quite harsh on the products as well tbf. I’ve tried to avoid using them on my car but looks like it wouldn’t be so bad if I had to use one occasionally
@@AutoCareHQ I use the detail kitchen one aswell it’s a bit less harsh snd also smells amazing lol 😂
Great comparison video 👍🏽 I use Rain X just because it's cheap and easily available and I can clean and reapply without having to think about cost. Durability on the front windshield is good enough, but certainly because of wiper use it breaks down way faster than the other windows, those easily can last several months. I've applied Acquapel on a friend's front windshield last fall, but I haven't been the car during any rainfall, and need to check in with them regarding its performance. It's supposed to be good for a year and they haven't been driving much due to pandemic.
Thanks very much! Yeah that’s a very good point, I’m lucky to get half the durability on the windscreen compared to the back/ side windows which seem to last forever!
Great video Heather , probably the best one yet 👏 really great seeing them all up against each other, Pyramid one looked amazing but I’d expect that from a ceramic tbh, the Rain X residue can be removed by lightly misting with water, it may have helped, Nice job tho , very professional 👍
Thanks so much Graeme! Great idea, I’ll do that next time I apply Rain-X! 😊
Brilliant video! First one of urs I have seen, new sub here ✌️
That’s brill thanks very much! 😊
Really good review and the chart at the end was very helpful so you can apply your own "weighting" across the various categories. Being a tight wad Rain X edges it for me😆
Cheers Peter! Rain-X did a cracking job, shows that you don’t need the most expensive products to still get some great results!
Heather, how long have you been detailing ? You do an amazing job.
Another great video Heather, going to give rain X a go 👍
Thanks Neil, great choice!
Fantastic and informative video, thanks.
Thank you very much! 😊
Great test, I'll be trying the pyramid car care one
Thanks very much! That’s a good choice, I’m using in on my windscreen atm and it’s doing a great job 😊
Thanks for the video! I have always been puzzled by who leaves an Arnold Clark sticker on their rear windscreen 😬
Great comparison there Heather. Was surprised at how well RainX did. The only other factors would be how they compare on the windscreen at speed and how long they last with wiper use in the mix.
Thanks very much! I’d have loved to do a proper test of the wipers but was really struggling to find a fair way to compare them with positioning etc, and it probably would’ve taken a while to get the video out! I was really surprised at Rain-X too, I thought it’d be one of the weaker ones being a very cheap product but it ended up being very impressive!
@@AutoCareHQ testing with wipers would have been really difficult and taken months!
Very helpful 👌
Rain-X also does a 2in1 rain repellant + glass cleaner. You reckon it’s worth a shot?
Be worth seeing what they are like on front windscreen while driving in the rain. I use h2go and lasts ages between coates
I've only ever used RainX and I think I'll stick with it 👍🏼
Looks like a good choice!
Angelwax H2GO is my go to product for a glass sealant. I am lucky as they are just down the road from me and I use a lot of their other products as well. I have gotten to know the guys there very well over the years.
It looks like a great choice! I’m tempted to try some more of their products, I’ve heard really good things about the brand
@@AutoCareHQ I like the snow foam and stripped ease (wax removal} and their Halo exterior trim wax and carpet cleaner to name a few. They are famed for their waxes also.
Ive noticed in general that rain x is ver mineral collecting. When ever ive used it, anytime it rains theres always spotting and its like theres a coating of dust on the areas that dont get as wet like the edges and top of the windscreen
The trick with rain-x is to buff off first with a damp cloth and follow that with a dry one. Or sprits a little water on the area before buffing.
hey, will you ever do a video of FX Protect company would love to see a review by you thanks for your content love to watch it and what protection would you recommend if I want a long-lasting and nice beading? without ceramic coatings and good that you are doing an honest review even if you were sent the product that's great
Thank you! I’ve added the brand to the list, I’m slowly working my way through it without trying to spend to much 😂 I’m using pyramid car care ceramic wax atm which is holding up really well. I also really liked GB Detailing Hydro wax. Fusso coat is brilliant for durability and water behaviour but it’s not my favourite to apply!
Does the rain x make the surface grippy?
Does it cause wipers to shudder?
Used the Angelwax one and liked it . Currently using Soft99 Glaco and a Autobrite product . Be interesting to see how they perform long term though. Both mine start water leaving the screen at different speeds
I very nearly bought the Soft99 one but I had to stop myself buying more stuff, the wish-list is getting very long now 😂
@@AutoCareHQ always that temptation , set a spend limit then realise your £45 over it fast
I use the car chem one all the time, didn't even know it was supposed to leave a coating just assumed it was a glass cleaner. don't particularly like glass sealants so it suits my needs. Great value for money too
It’s a great glass cleaner, the hydrophobic effect is a good bonus as well considering how cheap it is. I like using it to top up the protection in between applying sealants 😊
@@AutoCareHQ on another note car chem do make dedicated glass sealants that would probably match up to these competitors better, I have got some but don't really use it.
Good idea for a test, surprised h2go didn’t score better because a lot of people rave about it,.... tbh I got a bit confused with your cost calculations where pyramid coating needs a couple of drops that will last many months doesn’t really compare to a spray glass cleaner that will take a few sprays and last a week or two, or a big blob of rain-x 🤷🏻♂️
Cheers Nick. Yeah I get what you mean about the prices, I wasn’t sure how reliably I could factor in the durability/ cost so just decided to compare the price/ volume. When I measured out the amount needed for a windscreen they did all work out a very similar amount if I was careful not to over apply any based on the method of dispensing. The sprays probably used a touch less than pyramid to be honest as they were a bit easier to spread when being more careful not to over apply and the pyramid coating soaks into that applicator quite quickly
Well done, This clearly took some time to put together. You definitely need to give yourself a huge pat on the back, I'm a huge Rain X fan but am tempted to try a proper sealant, I'd be interested to know how the one you have on your car performs when used in anger? as I know some can cause wiper judder and ghosting.
Thanks very much I really appreciate it! I’ve got the pyramid one on my windscreen at the moment and it’s been no trouble at all. No ghosting, juddering or similar! My plan is to keep that as my go-to for windscreens and then use rain-x on the back and side windows I reckon 😊
@@AutoCareHQ excellent idea. I’ve rain x on all my windows and the sides last forever. I also use the Car Chem glass cleaner every wash and it just sheets the water. Makes a massive difference in the bad weather
I have been using Rain x for years and I use their own glass cleaner to clean it off after buffing on, I use their glass cleaner for my weekly wash keeping the coating topped up, a bottle of rain x can last years at only a fiver
That’s a great tip, thank you!
Class! Cements me to only use rain x, tried meguairs glass sealant, sucks in comparison
Rain-X is brill, so cheap as well
Had H2GO on the front screen and it was great....but.... I found the wipers were a bit "sticky" at their extremities. They didn't judder but you got a little bit of squeaking as they changed direction.... but that lasted about a day.
It did wear off over-the-counter course of a month but then being a business car I can do 500 to 800 miles a week on all weathers so they can get a lot of use
Ahh that’s annoying, at least it wore off fairly quickly. I really wanted to do some kind of test on the wipers but couldn’t really think of a decent way to compare it unfortunately!
@@AutoCareHQ pretty difficult if you've only got 1 windscreen
Hopefully I'm going to decontaminate and clay bar the glass and put carpro Fly By on it soon...
Another good product is Sansom Clarity glass cleaner which has hydrophobic abilities and great for side glass as you're going to clean them anyway after a wash
Did the car service go ok? The mechanic didn't spill any oil, I have a sign that i hang on my mirror that say
(Please do not wash or add any tyre shine thank you)
Yep luckily they know what I’m like with it so they never wash it and are very careful! 😂
@@AutoCareHQ That's nice of them 👌
You should try Glaco soft99. I compared with H2GO Glaco provided better drainage remaining longer.
Now I have not tested strong chemicals like you do.
Drove the car daily washer fluid then some snow foam shampoo as usual and alkaline degreasing. I have had Rainex many years ago but thought it gave a very annoying strange drain that was irritating on the windshield switched to H2GO.
Now I would never take anything other than Glaco Soft99.
Is a bit about how it drains from the windshield during the journey.
Glaco has several different I have tested 2 Soft99 on the windshield now since the other that looks like a round puck on the side windows I put on my car and for others.
The most durable is Aquapell, but hey, it's hard to get rid of when you have to put it back on.
But it lasts extremely long on the windows provides good comfortable drainage that does not disturb one when driving.
Rainex was good but teased was irritated it was how the rain left the windshield.
Good test 👍👍
Thanks very much for watching and commenting! I was so close to buying some the Soft99 one but I had to stop myself spending any more 😂 I’ll get it when I’m running low though, it looks like a very popular choice
@@AutoCareHQ
Yes, you are right to do so 👍
You have to use what you have first.
The same here I want to test several things but have to give up and use what I have first.
As with car shampoo I have several different ones that are good want to test more.
Happened to buy a 5 liter of Car-Chem 1900: 1
it will probably last for an eternity or I will only have to wash cars full time. 🤔
A good shampoo affordable does its job well.
But should you try Glaco buy the Ultra Glaco 70 ML it is their best.
I bought it and the round 120 ML at the same time.
70 ML drains off better lasts longer on the window.
Keep doing tests comparing products you explain well.
I intend to buy try a product you have tested it is Wax Planet 8 below snow foam.
I have used Bilt Hamber Autofoam which is my favorite right now.
Bilt Hamber came with a brand new one I have not tested you also did a test out of.
Then there is one that many say is good Infinity Wax Power Foam.
I do not know if you have tested it and what you think about it?
But you probably have a lot of prewash detergent as well and among the best of it 👍🙂
Thanks very much! I’ve not tried any infinity wax products yet but I’m thinking about getting that and also Autobrite Magifoam for a similar comparison style video with wax planet and the BH ones of course! 😊
@@AutoCareHQ
sounds like a good test 👍
There are many snow foams that do not clean well but give good foam. Bilt Hamber is terribly good.
I have not tested their new one Touch-Less.
Wax Planet and Infinity wax I do not even know if we have anyone selling here in Sweden?
But it works to buy from Ebay
I know the reason for claying the glass but my car is 3 months old should I still clay?
I’d just test to see if it feels rough if I were you, you might not need to if it’s so new 😊 I’m usually a bit more chilled about claying glass often compared to paint as it won’t mar it or anything like that
@@AutoCareHQ That's a fair point thank you. I have never clayed before so could use the glass as practice.
Anybody here because of the preview closed captioning?
Rain x
It's a good product in my opinion 👍🏼. I've never found the need to try anything else TBH.
I even use it on the glass in the shower to reduce the water spotting 👍🏼
