Originally released on VHS in 1987, this video is from John Farnham's performance at the Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Centre in March 1987. This performance was released on DVD in 2006 as a part of the 20th Anniversary Edition of 'Whispering Jack.'

Farnham. Hirschfelder. Garsed. Burchell. That’s a line up of raw talent. Add in Fields, Nelson and Field and you get perhaps the best Aussie live gig ever!

Man, his voice is on another level.
This song is still relevant today. John Farnham's passion, performance and vocals during the late 1980's was beautiful. His band, particularly David Hirschfelder (keyboards) and his lead guitarist (Bret Garsed) were outstanding.
That guitarist has a very international flavor. Very "american." He's on another level to the Aussie guitarists.
Don't forget Angus on the drums. His band is one of the finest in the world. Even Kylie Mingoue used his live band for one of tours in Australia. I think it was the Impossible Princess tour in the late 90s
How can anyone make cold chisel look bland….. JF, the greatest voice to take a breath from god, and fortunate I was growing up with him as the soundtrack of my childhood.
Can't believe this man wasn't an international star! He and I sing very similar and that's because I'm aiming to be an American Farnham. I sang this song last night I think and practice these songs all the time. He also was incredibly handsome. Little River Band were so much better when they had him. All the hate he gets is sickening. He is in my mind the greatest singer.
John was reluctant to do any tours or promotional tours of the USA after he left LRB. Apparently according to Glenn Wheatley John asked Glenn don’t make him successful in US

I actually think he sang this song with even more presence and feeling back in 2003 from his live show called the last time. He is definitely one of the best male singer in the world. And he should be in the hall of fame a long time ago.
Totally agree. It still gives me chills to this day. I remember watching this concert on tv when I was 12! It was a huge thing and just about everyone watched it!

Farnham didn't have the international profile of Freddie or MJ, but clearly one of the best of that era. He was one of the first singers considered by Queen to replace Freddie but it never happened apart from some minor collabs in 2000 when he was past his prime. Farnham is my favourite singer. Best live singer Ive heard

Brett Garsed's distortion tone on this is a text book example of how it can be used not for heavy metal but creates a "Sweet" sound! Take particular note in his solo.
"How can I go home and not get blown away" as sung by John Farnham - I lack the vocabulary to describe just how amazing this is. Utterly sublime is the best I can come up with.
Jimmy Barnes sang it incredibly well, but Farnsey is the one that gives me chills.

I have listened to various versions and without a shadow of doubt and in my personal opinion this particular cover he did in this Whispering Jack concert is by far the best. What a privilege having listened to this man for years whilst living Down Under ❤️

He’s awesome and yes his range is out of this world. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him in his head voice. Even his highest of notes are in his chest. Spot on every time.

purple2275 I was a similar age, slightly younger - was indeed a landmark. We taped it off the TV and watched it thousands of times. Still love catching Farnsey live these days when he can... he has had a comeback vocally and is sounding better than ever !

Yes. This song was written by Steve Prestwich, the drummer with Cold Chisel. Steve also played drums for a little while for LRB when John was lead vocalist. I have a feeling John recorded this song with LRB with Prestwich on drums.
