Grew up with Mats as my Cap. I appreciated everything he did, except for one moment... and that one moment was not allowing us to trade him to try to improve the team, because he didn't want to be a "rented player", which is pretty much what happened. That said...

@@tonyc7627 I get why you say that, but, they didn’t have the depth, the only real player of any note was my favourite goalie, Cujo. In my opinion, the reason why they couldn’t get it done is because the team behind Mats and in front of Cujo wasn’t up to the same standard.
@@johnbowden811 well, I thought Cujo could've played better, buffalo stole that series because of Hasek, goalies are always the difference
@@tonyc7627 Yes that’s true but one man or even two men don’t make a team. So Cujo and Mats could only do so much before you have to say “come on guys, back ‘em up!!” Which is what was always saying back in the day. The only player to come close to Mats’ stats since him is Auston, so what does that mean?? And, the only player to beat Cujo’s stats is Jack, the season just gone!! So, I mean no-one has come close in the “in between” years. No-one!!
God I miss #13! How much would this group of Leaf players learn and grow under his leadership?! Sigh....

It would have been interesting to get Mats take on the yet ANOTHER recent Maple Leafs collapse in the playoffs.

He’d have the same take. Veteran players seem to know that playoff failures are a common thing at a young age and also recognize their talent, despite the playoff failures. Vets still sign here despite the first round streak
