    Hi, Great video. My wife has the exact same 2016 2.0 Kia Soul. Just finished a tune up, new plugs, ignition coils, PCV valve, oil change, air filter and cabin air filter. All she does is add gas lol… Anyway I was looking for the transmission dipstick and did’t find one as they just don’t have one. Came across your great video. This is next on my list and doable for an old guy like me.

    Good video… my sugestión before you open or drain oils, all ways first open the refill plug. That way you sure be able to put the new oil.
    Some times plugs are stock or break when opens.

    Any idea on how to check the level on hybrids as they usually dont idle the engine, and there is no torque converter spinning. I cant figure out if the engine needs to be running or not with a hybrid. I have a 2019 Optima PHEV

    That's how I pump in my trans fluid on my 2017 Kia Soul. If I let it run while I'm pumping it in it will take in another half a quart then when I turn it off it will pour out quickly. I always wonder am I supposed to keep a topped off while it's running or when it's off. I've changed it several times since new.

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  Před 27 dny

      You want to fill it running at temp and and plug it before turning the car off. I appreciate the feedback.

    • @eastcoastroadrunner
      @eastcoastroadrunner Před 27 dny

      Here's why I'm not sure of that. When I drain the fluid about 3 n 3/4 of a quart come out. The same amount pumps right in without starting it.. but then it will take in another half a quart after it's running. And that's 4 n 1/4.qts. that seems like too much to me because when I first changed it years ago the original amount that came out was 3 n 3/4th. But the good news is it seems a little Universal for the amount going in it. It can be overfilled a little.

    Great video! So how much fluid does a 2015 actually take?

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  Před 10 měsíci +1

      3.2 quarts (drain fill ) should be about perfect. Thanks for the feedback.

      The manual for my 2015 states “Manual transaxle fluid: 1.6 Engine needs 1.9~2.0 US qt. (1.8~1.9 1) and a 2.0 Engine needs 2.0~2.11 US qt. (1.9~2.0 l)”
      And an automatic needs 7.71 US qt. (7.3 l) for both engine sizes.

    I'm new to this and have never changed the transmission fluid. Why do you have the engine running? Do I need to turn it on only while finishing pumping the fluid in?

    • @TatumDeatherage
      @TatumDeatherage Před 8 měsíci

      When you check the transmission fluid it has to be under normal operating conditions (i.e. has to be warm as if you are driving) if it’s checked when it’s cold you could get an incorrect result (it could indicate that the fluid is low when it isn’t really)! Allow it to continue running while you check the level!

      @dgunearthed7859 Před měsícem

      @TatumDeatherage makes sense but to further clarify, since I also have never done this, will the transmission fluid warm up to normal operating temps or should u actually take it for a drove and then check? Thank u

    well I didnt do a transmission flush on my 16 manual because I was told its a "closed system" that you dont do that on, transmission seems fine at 250k miles but hell should I do a triple flush if you are supposed to do this?

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  Před 2 měsíci

      Usually the manual transmissions do not need much attention. I believe they only take a couple of quarts. With those miles it would not be a bad idea to change it out. The oem fluid or royal purple synchromax. This one is an automatic in the video. Thanks for the feedback.

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  Před 11 měsíci

      I believe it calls for Kia type 4 or Hyundai SP4 ( same ), I know oreillys or rock auto can order the Idemitsu HK4 . Idemitsu is much cheaper than the Kia Hyundai brand and is pretty comparable. In my opinion any compatable atf that is full synthetic is pretty good. I have used the idemitsu as well as dex VI full synthetic. Thanks for the question.

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Yes , 4 quarts is all you need on a drain fill. If you flush the entires system it will take 8 quarts. I usually just stick with doing a drain fill every 30k or so. Thanks for the feedback.
