Dude. This video is awesome and just what I was looking for. About to have a new pickup put into my acoustic Larrivee from the mid-90's that used to have a TrueTone system (with two mics and a transducer)....I'm also planning on doing more looping so this helped me a lot. Thanks.
Great review. Thanks for the comparison. Now that you’ve had more time with the m80 would you recommend it over the anthem for looping percussive beats on the acoustic guitar in a live environment? I’m looking at the anthem, m80, and now the new hi-fi system. Would love your input or any advice you’ve heard from others in the acoustic looping community that are trying to lay down a punchy kick/snare layer in a gig setting. Thanks in advance!
Yes, absolutely, the anthem is a great pick up I would recommend for just about anybody, but I actually find myself using the LR bags, M1 lately, even over the MA, it is the most stable tone with a good percussive range
hi there, I can't recall exactly how I set things up for this video, but I have two inputs on my paddleboard, and it's relatively easy to map a button to switch between them. An ABY pedal would likely work as well.
to get a nice deep kick sound without striking the strings of the guitar, you would need a transducer pick up source under the area where you typically strike it Both of these pick up body sounds for the upper frequencies, but to get a low end thump, you need to hit the strings at the bridge or the magnetic pick up
Great video. Very helpful. I love the sound of the m80. It’s it’s own sound, maybe not accurately representing the true acoustic tone, but still a pleasing tone. I think we just have to find a pleasing sound and get back to playing music. I guarantee you 1 song in, everyone listening has forgotten about your tone and is vibung on the music. As proof I suggest listening to some of the old jazz guitarists from the early days or even Django. Horrible tone but we hold those performances dear.
For the type of music that I play and the warm sound that I like, this has been one of the most helpful and detailed reviews. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the good job, Kevin!😊
What amp are you using?
Realy informative and helpful demo. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!

Anthem for the win.
Hey Kevin! One question, how do you change the pickups with your pedal? What is this pedal you are using to do that? :)

In your opinion what pickup would ne better for percussion guitar like the style Marcin Patrzaleck plays?

M80 for the win. No way I am permanently modifying my Collectible Washburn 125th Anniversary Parlor Blues Machine!
Good choice!
lr baggs lyric sounds better and more natural than both of those pickups
I would agree, a microphone will always sound the best. But it will likely be less stable at higher volumes, especially the low end frequencies.
