    I’m in Ohio and the housing market here over the last 7-8 years is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Homes that were bought for $130K in 2015 are now being sold for $590k. I’m talking about tiny, disgusting, poorly built 950 square foot shit boxes in quite mediocre neighborhoods. Then you’ve got Better, average sized homes in nicer neighborhoods that were $300K+ 10 years ago selling for $750k+ now. Wild times.

      A recession as bad it can be, provides good buying opportunities in the markets if you’re careful and it can also create volatility giving great short time buy and sell opportunities too. This is not financial advise but get buying, cash isn’t king at all in this time!

      On the contrary, even if you’re not skilled, it is still possible to hire one. I am a project manager and my personal portfolio of approximately $750k took a big hit in April due to the crash. I quickly got in touch with a financial-planner that devised a defensive strategy to protect and profit from my portfolio this red season. I’ve made over $350k since then.

    WOW ... I was just there a few months ago, my brother and his wife were looking around there for a home. From what I saw it was really pretty and the people were just friendly and nice. The whole week there I did not see one piece of trash on the ground or even any homeless walking around holding up signs.

      Let me tell you I been here in Hickory for 3 years now this month and it is NOT that cheap!! Im on Zillow every day and its not affordable!! Back in the spring I was going to settle and buy a "fixer up house" built in the 60s for $175K but went up to and sold for $206K, the place needed to be gutted out and redone!! $206K??!!! are you kidding??!! One of the reasons im moving out is because the housing is so unaffordable and now with the high interest rate forget it. Nice place to live but watch the crime and cost. Not just here but all of NC has gone up and out of control price wise.

      I moved to Hickory 7 years ago. The house prices and rent prices are relatively high compared to the overall low cost of living here, but almost everything else is inexpensive compared to other areas. And the housing cost is still much lower than many places in the U.S. (California, North East, etc.)

    Winston Salem is the most under appreciated city in NC. Great arts and cultural city. Great health care. Three respected universities. Affordable housing. Good schools. Reasonable taxes. Easy to get around. Easy drives to the mountains and shores. Terrific restaurants.
    As person who grew up in Boston, the 20 years I lived in W-S I consider it my true home. Great people and lots of young people and families.

    I checked today. Hickory, according to the neighborhood scout website, is safer than 4% of all other cities. I skipped over it in my search for that reason. I live in Southern Missouri in a city with a population of about 150K that has a 0% rating. It has been, for several years now, in the top 5 cities in the US for crime. This week, we had 3 homicides in 6 days. I wouldn't be trading up much to move to a town rated 4.

    I live in Hickory and yes it is very nice and offers a lot in / for many reasons. But for the reasons its not so great is the crime, YES! go look it up! On neighborhoodscout says Hickory is safer then ONLY 3% of of US neighbor hoods!! Thats crazy!! With in North Carolina 92% of other communities have a lower crime then Hickory. This is sad news to hear.
    Off another site - Hickory has a violent crime rate of 25.4, which is higher than the US average of 22.7. Furthermore, Hickory has a property crime rate of 69.3, which is more than double the US average of 35.4. This is the facts, sorry.
    Also the cost of housing is out of control! Affordable?? to who??!! Yes cost less then the areas surrounding Charlotte but still so high! Basically anything under $200k is not worth much to look at all. Between $200k and $250k you can get something between 1,200sf - 1,600 and built from the 1960s or 70s maybe in the 80s if your lucky in ok shape is all. Anything affordable and ok will go in a day or so. Go look for your self, you dont have to believe me. One of the reasons im moving out of the area by the end of the year and to a place that has around a 30% less cost for housing.

    • @livinginnorthcarolina
      @livinginnorthcarolina  Před 10 měsíci

      We actually cannot speak to crime rates as many people have different ideas of what that means. What I can say is we ALWAYS ask our clients to look into where they want to live. I have found affordable housing for people in other areas too where they are very happy. We want our clients to use us for life so we ask a lot of questions about what they want for their lifestyle so that we can help find the right fit. I agree, this crime information is very sad to hear.

    • @livinginnorthcarolina
      @livinginnorthcarolina  Před 7 měsíci

      This video covers affordability. I actually do not cover crime as I have found all clients expect something different in that area. I have helped people move that just want no gunshots and others that wish for no car break-ins so it varies from person to person. I always advise clients to do their own research on an area before they write an offer to be sure we find what they need.

      It is a small area and everyone has a different idea of what makes it good. Our job is to help uncover the lifestyle that you want and help guide you through finding the home that meets all your needs. Jeff and I are proud of the fact that 90% of our business comes from repeat customers that are really a part of our lives. We do not act transactional because we are relationship based. We have to get it right in order to earn repeat business.

    Stay away from Hickory. No way houses are $161k. Traffic is rapidly increasing. Property values have skyrocketed as have taxes. Large tracts of trees have been clear cut for building small yet ugly homes. New homes seem to be priced at least $200 per square foot. And you have to drive at least an hour for decent shopping. Hope you like bbq if you are thinking about moving to Hickory. There are very few decent restaurants.

      Asheville has been ruined by progressives and immigrants from the North. Don't bother. I used to visit there 2-3 times every year. Now, I visit nearby mountain towns such as Brevard, Boone, Blowing Rock, & Floyd, VA. Blowing Rock is expensive.

      We would absolutely not lie. As noted in the video, this is from research, a newspaper article, and backed by public information with sales reports through MLS and Zillow. There are a lot of ways to verify what we’ve said. Hickory was ranked the most affordable city in North Carolina.

      Actually no, Hickory was labeled the best city to live in within all of the US, Newton which is the county seat of Catawba which Hickory resides in is a great little town as well. Close to both hickory and Mooresville. I much prefer Newton just because it’s located below i40. And Catawba county is the best county in NC in my opinion.

    • @livinginnorthcarolina
      @livinginnorthcarolina  Před 9 měsíci +1

      It was also labeled as the best city to live in, but it was previously ranked as the most affordable city to live in at the time this video is created. We get a lot of questions on affordable housing and where to buy so we thought it would be great to do a video on that part of it. I think Catawba county is an excellent place to live, we’re not far from there ourselves
