    April, if you are from Ohio, you have contributed to the traffic/growth/massive apartments being built everywhere problem! Please tell people North Carolina is full 😂. When people are told a location is the promised land, they swarm it like locusts and eventually change the conditions that make the area a promised land (California is a perfect example). The heat and humidity don't bother me having grown up here nor do the big bugs, snakes etc. I prefer the heat and humidity to the brutal Ohio winters! In terms of the pollen, it typically is only a problem for two weeks. In terms of allergies, you may want to consider zinc and quercetin, which are over the counter supplements. I had bad spring allergies until I started taking zinc and quercetin.

    • @livinginnorthcarolina
      @livinginnorthcarolina  Před rokem +2

      I definitely take both of those for my allergies but unfortunately I do still suffer for about 6 to 8 weeks each spring. I’ve been down here for 11 years but yes, I am part of the problem. The difference is, I came down here for my family so we do have roots here. Ha ha! 😂

      @@pamelamccall5653Agreed. They are eyesores and create enormous traffic problems. The look like old, massive Soviet apartment blocks. They are changing the character of the area from gentle and suburban to aggressive and urban. If I wanted to live in Atlanta, I would move there. "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot". Oh well, the area was idyllic for 30-40 years(from the mid 70s until about 2015) but the only thing constant in this world is change so I will roll with the punches.

      Yankees move here and complain about everything. They tried telling people in Maggie Valley that Mountain Laurel was Ivy and vice versa. Nobody in the South knows anything according to them but they were told that Interstates run North also and they were welcome to take them back where they came from. As far as snakes go, more snakebites occur in NC than any other state. That is why those with a brain do not kill King Snakes and Black Snakes.

    My husband and I sold our 2022 Chevy Silverado a few weeks ago. Our auto insurance dropped by $1600 a year. Pollen season in April will make you cry. I've seen clouds of pollen blowing by. Yes, your vehicles will turn yellow. There is no need to wash your vehicle for the whole month of April because it will be covered in pollen the next day. The bugs are terrible. Gnats never stop getting in your face. They don't have a particular season. I've seen a swarm of gnats in December. Heat and humidity! You get out of the shower and you can't tell if you're wiping sweat or water off your body.

    Not being negative, just giving a different point of view. We bought a place here15 years ago from upstate NY. The traffic has gotten crazy all over, when we go back to visit, it's just as bad there. The humidity in NY is worse than down here, it can get pretty hot there, but it feels hotter even when the temperature isn't as high, because it's so humid. The pollen was just as bad covering our vehicles in NY. My allergies as well as my son's allergies have been a lot better down here, to the point where I rarely use medicine anymore. I think a lot of that is because it doesn't get as much snow and rain here, so there is less mold spores in the air. Now as for bugs... I hate bugs, we didn't have palmetto bugs or fire ants, which was great, but there were many times the mosquito's would litterally swarm us, you could rarely go outside without getting eaten alive. I think we've seen less than 5 mosquito's since we moved here, and we're outside all the time. Which is another big plus for living down here. We rarely had a string of pleasant days up there, it was either way too cold, or too hot and humid. I wouldn't complain at all.

    I live in Raleigh and it’s a huge city and like 70+ people move here a day and here’s my 4 things I hate about North Carolina!
    1. Heath insurance- if your spouse works for the state you really can’t get on their health insurance without paying about $700 a month and up.
    2. Infrastructure doesn’t exist on this state. I’m from Cleveland, Ohio and I’ve never seen anything like North Carolina’s roads.
    3. Taxes. North Carolina is behind the times when you compare it to other states. They are cheap in this state and tax you for everything. I have to pay over a thousand dollars in vehicle taxes a year here and I’m not getting anything out of it.
    4. Crime. They market North Carolina as this safe state when most of it is impoverished. Just go to these smaller towns and see for yourself. Durham is a train wreck waiting to happen.

      @livinginnorthcarolina  Před rokem +3

      These are all really good reasons. It’s funny that number one and number two we both share. I think a lot of people feel that way because it has been frustrating that there is not enough infrastructure to take care of the growth.

      We didn't have so many engineered roads not so long ago. It was mostly meandering paths of peace and scenery. Bad drivers... Do you mean people not in a hurry, taking their sweet time, getting over to the left lane so the cars can enter on the right, obeying the 2 car length following distance regulations, knowing full and well the traffic light will still be there when we get there?
      Please go somewhere else. We dont want you here, less you, less traffic, lower costs, more farms, less roads and apartments being built. Its a win win for everybody if you just pick a new state more aligned to what ever it was you came from.

      @biancacaridealine1037, I'm sorry that you are struggling. I know how you feel. I had a house fire a few years ago and rented a house in the neighborhood I grew up in while my home was being rebuilt. When I was a child, any new neighbor would be welcomed to the neighborhood by numerous neighbors. When I returned to my childhood neighborhood, NOBODY greeted me and I lived there for a year! When North Carolina was a much smaller state 30-40 years ago, neighbors were much friendlier. I think another problem is society in general has become much colder and isolated in the last 30 years. One thing you may want to consider is moving to a smaller, more welcoming town but please scout the town out first and interacting with some of the people in the town before making the move. Please don't feel insecure about your accent as I find the Dominican accent to be charming. In addition. there are so many immigrants to North Carolina from all over the world so there are a lot of different accents in the state. I will say a prayer for you.

The politicians suck, state auto inspections suck, all the crappy drivers suck, cost of living is very high, high population sucks, getting way overcrowded, racist job managers, building everywhere making housing unaffordable. North Carolina tries to squeeze you for every penny you have. Whenever you pay a bill, they always charge you extra fees. I won't miss it at all.

    As a real estate agent complaining about 100 people a day moving to the area you live in, 1 you are making a killing on sales, 2 you are the one showing people who are crowing your area homes, 3 you encouraging more building by selling these homes. I have a 6 acre field that every week I get some investor trying to buy and will never sell because i do not want condos built next to me. Heat and humidity gets worst with building by removing trees and every house with a swimming pool, it is hot but not humid like by my NJ home. Allergies are not nearly as bad for me as in NJ and VA, where I am from it starts in April and end in November but does not bother me here. Bugs are big but most are harmless and far less mosquitos than NJ, but they are fun to watch when the hit your ZAPPER. I do prefer the heat over shoveling feet of snow in single degree weather. My only complaint is my town does not sell beer and drive a distance VS I could walk to the store by me and my daughters in VA. Life is what you make of it and I belong here more than where I grew up on a farm not the city.

      We truly appreciate your feedback. Yes, we have been very fortunate to help people both out of town and locally buy and sell their homes. We count ourselves lucky for the trust they share with us. We would not necessarily say we are complaining about 100 people a day moving here. We have and will continue to work hard for our clients but please know that we go above and beyond every single chance we get. I have personally scrubbed bathrooms, windows, hauled boxes, trash and swept floors to help clients have a clean home to sell. We love that you have land and protect it. We also live on a large tree filled property that we love. It is a sanctuary for us. It was tricky coming up with things that we do not like here but you are RIGHT! Life IS what you make of it! We are so glad to be here and call NC our home. As an Army "brat" I did not have just one home growing up. I often did not feel like I belonged. NC is the FIRST place where I feel that way. Please check out the videos we talk about the GREAT stuff we love too!

      @@livinginnorthcarolina Sorry to sound harsh not my intention, similar happened to North Jersey back in the 80s and is happening now with excessive building and taking NY people. I am not faulting you and hope you are doing well, NC needs to make more money and that spreads the wealth. We are in the Seagrove area which is a lot slower to build than Charlotte and Raleigh also the shore area are overflowing with transplants. But compared to NJ, NC much more land and proper planning can make this state very productive. I am living the dream my grandfather wanted when he retired to own a small farm, which we could not afford up north. As fellow Newbie I welcome you and wish all y'all the best here and if I know of anybody looking I will send them your way.

      @@livinginnorthcarolina That is one of the saddest replies.
      How nice for you that you live here and see butterflies.
      I am a White male, what the Confederate flag represents did not affect me.
      I too could put on a pair of rose colored glasses and see North Carolina as a beautiful paradise.
      But I'm also 73 years old and have woken up to the realization that the world isn't all about ME.
      I'm sure there were many white Aryans living in Germany during Hitlers reign who thought the same way; "it doesn't affect me, so the world is wonderful."
      When ANY American is being persecuted, marginalized, and hated, America is not perfect.
      There needs to be people who see beyond themselves to make the State a better place for ALL!

      How does seeing positive things in life imply that I am not aware of other people suffering?
      Keeping myself in a positive mindset allows me to support and be kind to others around me that need it more than anyone. I’m going to work to control my narrative so that I can give my best every day to the world around me.
      It does not have anything to do with rose colored glasses. Instead, I prefer to see it as how can I make a positive impact on those around me today and move forward in a better light? If I live in a negative space, I cannot provide a positive experience.
      I’m sorry that you took my comment in a manner that made you feel I was oblivious. That is certainly not the case. Negativity will not help.

It's hell living here. The only thing nice is the weather. The people aren't even that friendly for the south. I literally have nothing nice to say about it. I've been here for 3 months and I'm moving back north it's absolutely terrible here! Anyone thinking about moving here you are making a huge mistake go anywhere else if you need to work.
