Was I able to clarify any misconceptions about what work as a software developer entails? Was it about what you were expecting?
thanks bro, very informative video, i always wanted to know that!
of the things you mentioned in this video, can you break down the average time spent on each?
EXAMPLE:
40 hour work week()
{
meetings = 10;
bugs = 5;
new code = 10;
customer concerns = 5;
getting paid to play = 5;
waiting on updates/compiling = 5;
}
Hi Andy! You always come up with great insightful content. I just started my career a software developer, hence I would request you to post some videos on how a software developer's mindset should be when he is hitting some kind of roadblocks on problem solving, or solutioning of code , for example I have an initial tendency to think that solutioning is not even possible(which gets me really stressed out at times) when I am presented with a really tough problem, but as I dive deep into it, I somehow manage to make ends meet. Would really like to understand from you how a software developer's mindset should be when approaching a problem! Hope you get time to read my comment ! Cheers!
Seriously, it was helpful.
lawsonott3 I am also interested :)
Sit in front of a computer and try to figure shit out before giving up in tears.
Lol
Hahaha 😂
fazeel ashraf that’s me all day
Spot on!! Lol
100% accurate.
hands down this is the best advisory channel on programming.
Thanks Ramin!
Thank you for this video. You did not beat around the bush, you got straight to the points, and you explained what a software developer does in a way that could be easily understood. Awesome!
Thank you for the video. I have watched loads of videos about software and your video is the only one I truly understand.
Subscribed, great video as I’m just entering the field. Thank you, very well presented 🏴
It's just awesome how you're good at explaining stuff and giving advice in your videos I kinda envy you! 😂
Thanks for this video, I’m currently trying to decide what to do as a career and this video made me interested.
YAS THANK YOU 🙏 This is what I needed. Your explanation makes so much sense.
That's totally true! Thank you Andy, helpful as always!
"It's fun" they said,
"Building new features is fun" they said....
i felt this
It isn't?
@@FAHIMULALAM love hurts
It's hell sometimes. Let's be honest here.
You should consider ever posting videos where you actually code something and show us how you're building stuff. That'd be great. Dunno if you already have those sort of videos somewhere.

Thanks Andy! Appreciate the info!!!! Outtro music is dope af!!!!
Good information.Thank you Andy. Really helpful.
thank you Andy, great content as always!!!
Great video Andy. Your videos always make me more motivated and excited to learn more software development
Bro you said database to server side scripting to api endpoints to gui coding. I find myself moving into a software developer space without me even knowing. You just clarified that for me. I have so much to learn
Recently subscribed. You are doing a good job on CZcams.
Thanks man, I'm busy looking at what direction I want to go in after I complete my Computer Science degree, and this was very informative.
Hey 😅 I’m interested in computer science and I have a lot of questions is there a way i can contact you please?
Dude I just wanna say that I really appreciate your videos, I got stung by the coding bee by working with programmers, like, I understood a lot of what they where saying, (I work in communications), currently I'm working with a lot of developers, and I feel like my field is just crap compared to what they are doing, of course it is an asset to communicate, but building something must be so exciting, in other words I'm working on my html, css and java at the moment, the phase is really slow when I got a full-time job and a kid. But one day!
Did you do it?
This is the first video of you that I watch, not even 3 min in already subscribed. Thank you.
Nice! Welcome to the channel 😊
Hi Andy, great explanation! Thank you.
I'm a new C.S student, I am excited and nervous. Enjoyed your video, new subscriber!
Thanks Andy great info.
Thank you! This was so helpful! I am only in high school and was looking into software development. This video was rly helpful
Same lol
Great video Andy, thanks
As clear as you can be, thank you !
Thanks for this video. Was very nice look into a coding atmosphere.
thank you for this man you're a legend
This vid is perfect for getting an idea on what a software developer is and what it can do
That was very helpful. I applied to a few junior positions... waiting on the replies. Thanks for the motivation for the last few months.
Updates?
I got my foot in the door doing front end work, I had no idea what I was suppose to be doing as they didn't provide me with any knowledge of what I had to do, but your video really helped.. Sometimes I do not understand why they just don't say this stuff to you..
It's so annoying
I watch and I watch and I watch. Here’s my subscription already!
My mom asked me what I wanted to do when I grow up. I told her software engineer/developer. I have a little experience with computers but I'm still not that good. I hope when I grow up I want to get a degree in software engineering. I hope I'll make it. Just something that I mgt want to do when I get older.
I’m enjoying this video so far! You make me wagered to jump into the software development business a lot more! I do have a question though. Is it possible for me to begin my journey using an iPad Pro? My end goal is to purchase a MacBook Pro for developing and continuing photoshop but money has been a problem for me and haven’t been able to save up for one. Do you think it’s possible to have the same computing capabilities on an iPad Pro as I would on the MacBook?
Wooow sir 😍 you are awesome ......amazing vedio 😱💚💜💛❣️
Thanks helped my know more about your cool job
Other things I do as a developer:
*Run tests to check if anything changed when I modify the code
*Fuzz the code (I just started this)
*Run the software and tests on different OS/architecture combinations, usually just before a release.
Please start a series for must have algorithms for online coding platforms with animation/anything visual to understand.
I don't think there is something like that. There is too much to learn and many directions to go. And many things can only be understood once you have sufficient experience. For example there are coding patterns, but they won't be of much use to you if you don't know when to apply them and when not to. Just start to code and try to learn about such topics at some point.
For example I never have done anything with these searching algorithms. Most are already implemented in the language anyway (like C#)! I for one work more with file systems and 3D (Unity). And at this company I started with a very low knowledge about file systems, but I grew into it.
Great video really clear as a recruiter i try to understand what does a software dev do ? Thank you
Thanks again, Andy.
I really don't know what to do no more. I hate science and running to become a nurse and I'm not a big of being a nurse no more. I feel like doing something with gaming related
Same but idk what typa gaming related stuff
Yo, you ever thought about informatics? With the skills you’ve accrued as a nurse you could definitely push your career towards tech or hospital IT. There’s a lot of knowledge in your field that you can put to use and change your career.
I need an update of this
Game design is a headache and very overwhelming lol. Go into acting. My cousin thought about cyber security but it's not easy. We need to go back to the dark ages when computers, cell phones video game consoles didn't exist and since the rise of the machines are taking over the human race it's devastating and replaceable
Thank you for this!
Hi Andy! Could you do a video of how to use google to search for the problem properly, and something like your favourite sources? Regards, Ozzy.
Everything is StackOverflow ;)
hahahha,this made my day xD
but what if that site goes down huh?.....

Hi Andy, I am really enjoying your content. Could you tell me what microphone setup/equipment/software you are using?
Reproducing bugs is a great sign that you understand what happened. Thanks for the video!
Great video very correct! It is very fun tho. You have to be a nerd to get it but very cool! nice work
Thanks so much. I want to be a software developer. :)
Thanks for the knowledge
Stack overflow is my life
thanks for sharing so much good content!
Hello for the past two years i ve been learning programming and web development and i am about to hit the job hunting stage and have a question. Your video was clear. I thought that software devs do softwares for companies, like a software for an accounting company to make it quick and efficient the work inside that company, or softwares like photoshop, illustrator etc...
You gave examples for a website. I thought that what web developers do?! So what is the difference between software developer and a web developer?
Thank you very much
Thanks for your thoughts
Thank you for this video
I like your speak style man 👍🏻
Awesome video
Andy I'd like to know your thoughts on Wordpress in 2019?
For communication, can you also communicate to your boss just in case you're having trouble with your project as well or will your boss get mad at you?? Because it depends on how well you understand what you're doing with the project, it depends on how nice the person is to help you (because some bosses or people won't even help you, or they will help and if you still don't understand something after an x amount of times then they'll be really mean to you and fire you), and I guess it also depends on if you're working with the right company or the right groups of people because like I said not every person in the world is going to be your best friend and because of that, they might be mean enough to both get you in trouble and get you fired.
Which stack are you targeting? Microsoft/Lamp - desktop/web? All thee above? What’s your favorite language?
I love your videos bro. I'm starting school this September to become a software engineer. Thanks for all the heads up
julien stephenson I would love to be one but I unfortunately have to go back to do some high school courses and I am 19 year old of age. What are the requirements needed for it? Or what are your grades in math?
Good conversation.
I'm currently looking for a new career after being unable to carry on with my current one due to multiple slipped discs. I don't drive, so working remotely is essential, and I've always loved working with computers, so something like software engineering seems like a career I wouldn't mind pursuing. I have enough saved to cover my wages for 3 years, and was looking at doing some form of online degree, but unsure what exactly I would need to study, or how easy it would be to then find a job after completing my degree, as nearly everything seems to ask for previous experience in the role. If you, or anyone in the comments could give me some advice, it would be hugely appreciated. It's a huge step for me, and I want to make sure I have an understanding of what I'm doing before using my savings and throwing myself in to it.
This video is great. What do you suggest for a teenager who isn't sure if they want to go into this, but has no experience in coding?
Well said Sir.
I have a memory leak on my private website, the web app crashes every other week or sometimes month. There is no reliable way to find this bug, without a big test system that is close to the production environment in terms of usage.
THANK YOU.
How much of an 8 hour work day do people spend working on code vs communicating/meetings?
o-o code versus youtube more interesting
4-5 hours working on code in some capacity, we have the support ourself for anything we put in drift.
2-3 hours meetings/day, large company so a lot of different meetings that constantly pops-up.
If you have a program with bugs, do you print out the source code and try to spot the error or try to do it on-screen?
I've never thought about printing the code to find errors... sounds like an interesting approach
So I have a question for you. FOr those of us wanting to get into tech/Software development or fullstack development, do you recommend bootcamps? Theres a local community college here in AZ that offers 18 week bootcamps for front and back end. Neither class gets you any actual college credits but its supposed to get you the certs. Just curious. The program is called Promineo Tech and they have partnered with Gateway Community college.
Same, I’ve been interested in getting into this field and have been looking at going through Coding Dojo
As a software developer is everyone expected to learn outside of work hours how is the work life balance?
Just subbed. Very informative channel! So you work privately or for a company? And does it pay fairly well?
Hey @Andy,
A couple of kinda related questions.
1. Whats your text editor? You might have mentioned it in one of your previous videos but I don't think I watched it
2. How is the experience for writing C# on a Mac?
3. What are your thoughts on an IDE like IntelliJ?
You indicated in another video that you did not graduate college. I'm interested in this but I'm not totally convinced it's right for me so I don't want to go to a Uni... So basically do you understand the advanced math topics they teach for comp sci, like discrete math and calculus? Just wondering what I should learn, thanks.
Thanks you so much
Hello I'm new to this channel...I'm considering new career paths and have been considering something in computer science...My computer knowledge is pretty small...my work offers free education to its employees and a BS in software development seem vary interesting....I guess my question would be...is this something that can be taught to someone with little to no computer knowledge....
I REALLY wanna know how often do you TRAVEL?? Do you get any time to travel around as youre a software developer?? As youre so BUSY?
Thank you.
I'm planning on going back to college for software development. I have practically sleeve tattoos that stop at my wrists that can be covered up with a long sleeve shirt. Would this have any type of impact on getting hired? They're all spiritual symbols, not offensive.
Do you have to be proficient in math? If so, which math classes are strongly encouraged?
Thank you
I've just finished my resume and I'm ready to start applying, but I'm really scared. I still need to learn git and a couple of other things that I think are essential, or maybe I'm just paranoid. Lol
A video on that would be great.
My Reviews Hey man you should definitely learn git and put your projects on Gihub so employers can look at your code. It doesn’t take that long to learn
Once you learn GIT, you will realise why it’s so important 🏴

How did it go?
Guys I registered for application program’s but the wanted me to choose course but I don’t know what course I have to choose help please
Would I have a lot of trouble going into college for software development without having very much knowledge about it? I'm really interested, but I don't know if it's a lost cause or not.
I went with no prior experience, first 3 months were hard I’m not going to lie but after that I got the basics and caught up with people who had experience in the past, a lot of people on the course never done it before and universities/colleges take that into account
very informational
Hi Andy, I've been watching your videos and found them to be inspiring, motivational and very informative so I've subscribed. I've been interested in becoming a software engineer and i am a complete beginner. I know it's a lot of work but I'm willing to pursue this as it would become my new career, i hope. What kind of laptop would you recommend for a beginner that wants to learn this new field of work?
replying to get the notif aswell!
Are you currently working as a developer, if so what type?
I really like this guy
Andy can u talk about the stress level for being a software developer? My current job is stressful af and it’s affecting my health in a BAD way.🤦🏿♂️
What is it like?
Same I work as a Paralegal and I hate it lol
I listen to what programming customers want and then I craft my software solution around that unmet need.....simple.....
Guys what different between applications development and software development?????
I registered for applications development and what computer 💻 good for practice for applications development tell me is Apple pc good or MacBook Pro 💻
I'm pretty sure I want to get into this field. I'm oddly terrified this field will die out in the future. Am I wrong? Will this field be in demand for a long time?
Does anyone know if this would be a good for me to major in ? I just recently started doing a little research in software developer and I am really interested seems fun I want to work with computers anything technology related
Does anyone have any advice to get in to DSP from this area? have qualfications in this field have done programs related to it through university. it is a level 5 qualification learnt the basics of signal processing and going into a software development apprenticeship for experience.
I wanna switch my major to software development but I don’t know if I’ll actually like it and I wanna be able to mod games, fix bugs, and be able to know computer language. I would I be able to do all that stuff with software development?
Did you ever figure out your answer?
What happens when you can't fix a bug or need help with creating a new feature?
It's interesting how my work place software development process differs when it comes to responsibility of work.
When we have features that need to get worked on, it first goes through architects, and then BAs breaking down into smaller user stories and then each of the stories get picked up by developers. After they are done each goes through testing by QE.
I guess I see it as the building blocks are set up for the developers to then go and do their job.
Is this just due to different methodologies ?
Edit: I'm not saying developers don't do what you have mentioned when working on features, just that it sounds like more is provided to then as a base understanding and direction.
Is it possible for me, i donot have a Computer Science background, to become a software developer. How many courses should i have to take to have a clear understanding of software development?
Hello Good Day! I am a student that studying Information Technology and we are conducting an interview to a software developers who create a system, Can we interview for the short sort of questions? Thank you for answering :)
Here's our questions:
1. Name of the software system development you are part of?
2. Description of the software system and where it is used?
3. What software paradigm you used for the said project and the reason for using it?
