      @@droceretik This is streaming chess while chilling at home which is a different setting than a championship so it's an invalid comparion in any case. Pressure, risk, anonyomous opponent etc all plays into this.

    I wonder if opponents knowing that they are playing Magnus resign much sooner than they normally would? I’ve seen some very early resignations that even Magnus questioned.

    And I wish Magnus would explain why the opponent gave up. It’s not always obvious to beginners like myself. But it would probably take 2-3 minutes to explain all of the options. Chess, can’t decide if I like it or hate it...

    LOVE King's Gambit! Can anyone please explain why at 1:18 "a4 looks sensible" than c4? Also, where can I find the PGN of this game to do my own analysis?

      A4 immediately opens the A file for the rook and an attack on the enemy king. Generally it is also better to move pawns to the center of the board.

      Defends h2, prevents any knight g3 tactics since that'd open a discovery against the queen. It's actually a deceptively good defensive piece in this game, almost single-handedly prevents black's attack.

      @@mikes1984 I don't think there's an immediate knockout blow or anything, but they're two pawns down against Magnus and their position looks really bad. All of their pawns are isolated, so they'll need pieces to protect them, and their bishop and knight are both pretty short of useful moves, while Magnus' pieces all look fantastic. Plus, they were running out of time too.

      If you mean to fork rook h8 and bishop h6, if opponent moves bishop to take bishop f4 then he’s just forking both black rooks, and then if he takes its just trading knight for rook as other rook takes it.
      Tldr attacking to fork bishop and rook here means he loses his bishop and probably his knight and gains an undeveloped rook.

    Yeah, Stieinitz was a long time ago and quite basic anyway -- like controlling the Knights. Better to go with your own ideas at this point. Agreed and understood. Very brave playing the Kings' Gambit and nice control of the situation to keep yours safer. Thx for sharing your tricks and thoughts there too. Excellent.

      knight c7 would be an illegal move since that knight is also pinned by the bishop on a6. moving the knight out of the way would allow the bishop to check his king, such illegal moves are often completely disabled on most online chess websites

    i think what's more amazing than 2. f4 is 3. Nc3. As someone who plays the king's gambit often, I would be far to scared of Qh4 to even consider playing that

      @JediNxf7 bc4 still feels much safer because of kf1, which white doesn't have on 3.Nc3. I play bc4 only in kg, and that to me feels very different than nc3

      ​@JediNxf7 That is a good point, one thing I noticed after trying to kick off queen is allowing Bg4 in some lines pinning Knight. You guys should check out www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1493276 . This game is the reason I will never play 3. Nc3 against players that are equal to my rating or better lolol

      If black queen takes white queen on D1, then white need to capture white queen. Then black knight captures white knight on G5, and bishop captures, no gain aside from pawn.
