Alright, this is now my GO-TO channel for everything regarding dirtbikes. Really appreciate all the knowledge and experience!!!
Proud of you.
Sg12 all day long great review I like your honesty.
Good review. I would add the Tech 7 enduro dry star boots to try. They are the best I have worn. Waterproof membrane is worth it!
Second this, I had the corzal drystar adv boots and the waterproofing is awesome. That is until your up to your knees in water lmao.
Spent 5 days in them doing moto camping, riding, hiking, grocery store. All good. Just kinda lacks protection for more aggressive riding.
Going with the tech 7 enduros next.
I love this guys videos. I have learned so much from him.
I went from Fox instinct to Alpinestars Tech 7, 100% a better boot with a great feel out of the box. Thanks for the honest review 👍
Totally agree, they're great boots, couldn't speak high enough of them
Alpinestars Tech 7 are amazing and wayyyy better price point than the Sidis.
I don’t think I’ll ever deviate from the tech 7!
Totally agree, I love my Tech 7's, 3 years old and showing no signs of wear (I need to get out more)
The leather above the shin plate ripped on mine on the second ride and I only fell over twice, although In alpine stars defence they gave me the option to replace them or receive a refund
The AXO A2 was, and is a very good boot. So comfortable and well built. Unfortunately parts are hard to find.
The Gaerne SG12 is by far the best boot for me. I bought a well used, couple of year old pair for $40 and they're still holding up great. Absolute beast of a boot.
You can't go wrong with any Gaernes. TOP quality.Made in Italy.
Gaernes are thicker vertically than Sidi’s and if you don’t need the extra room it’s an inconvenience changing gears compared to thinner boot
Thanks for this video, a ton of good info on the boots, fit, feel, and quality.
$600 for boots? Lol. You’re living a far different life than I. Props to you. Keep doing what you love. Appreciate the info either way.
my bike is barely worth 600$ there's no way I'm dropping dimes like that on boots haha.
@@joshhead9368 yes, it’s hard when they are so expensive, but think of 2 things. 1. If they last you 10 years, that’s $60 a year for the best protection. 2. If in the US, these boots are cheaper than a visit to the er with a broken leg
@@thomas8734 that's a good point.
I mean honestly... if you wear the boot enough to truly wear it out then 600 is nothing when you divide it over that amount of time.
Very helpful. Thanks for these.
Thanks for the opinions! Great review
Love the channel I was actually just wondering where you got your custom bar cover made
Great video here kyle! i have to agree with you, i have had several boots models (although ive still not tried Sidi) but the SG 12 are the best out there!!
Great information. I love my SG10s and your video convinced me I need to try the SG12 next!
How have you liked them
@@sliceofbutter6766 Great protection compared to my AS Tech 7's but less comfortable.
Hi Kyle, love your videos and know how much effort you put into them. In your opinion what boot would be best between the Sidi Crossfire 3 SRS or the TA model.. Thank you, I will use your links below for sure..
Hey Kyle,,, love the channel. A simple tally slash on your boots can help to quantify the rides or depth of experience. I date and tally mark my running shoes with a sharpie to know the miles.
Great Video Kyle!
The password is "cobbler" 😂🤣🤙 good stuff bro!
Thank you for your honest opinion on the range of motocross boots you've bought. I will buy a pair of SIDI
You are my favorite dirt bike channel
Every review I see puts Gaerne at the top. Made in Italy, not outsourced, quality kit. They'll be my next boot :)
Great info! I actually just broke a buckle on my SG-12's. Was happy to find its only 7 bucks on RM to replace.
Lost a strap on my first ride with SG12's.
Found my ankles swelled up really bad and would be sore for days after as well.
Some fine tuning with the straps (running them much looser till broken in) resolved this issue. (Still hate replaced the strap just a cable tie in there lol)
Thx for review. I need to buy a pair
Definitely try the tech 7 boots! Absolutely love the tech 7!!
+1 for the Tech 7's, best boot I have worn, comfortable and very high quality.
Excellent review man
Great review Kyle! I'm the same size shoe you are...what size SG12 did you go with and do you think it's the best size for you? Keep up the good work Kyle!
Give the tech 10s a go! You will love them. I love being able to wash the inner booties.
I recommend to try some Forma's, I have SG10's now. That will be my next boot.
After using my Gx1’s for 3 years they were very soft and i ended up spraining my ankle on a hill climb. That was the point where i decided i needed better boots. After already having a good experience with gaerne boots and hearing a lot of good things about them, i got the Sg12’s. I immediately noticed how stiff they were and how much more supported and safer i felt. Of course feeling the brake and shifter at first was difficult and resulted in a lot of accidental neutrals but i love these boots. I am going to wear these boots for many years and when the time comes to replace them, i will get them again. Also, red and white boots ftw.
You should give the forma predator 2.0 a try!!
Great video man! Would like to see your thoughts om the Astar tech 10 in there
Bought alpinestars tech 7 enduro daystar and I love them, they're really comfortable out of the box, have ton of support. A lot of room in this foot, I'm a size 13 and always had problems finding comfortable boots (because I always went for fox) and this tech 7 fit like a glove, I don't think I'm ever buying anything else (besides maybe those sg12 look pretty sweet)
Hi, Sidi do have half numbers.
Great review, right on.
Yes I needed this my boots are all torn up😂
Great and honest video!
Try the Forma predator 2.0 you won't be disappointed (SG12 like).
Forma boots are amazing, they are still made in europe, specifically Romania
I have the tech 10’s and totally love them, nice and warm too in the Swedish winters which is important because I ride all year round.
I also like the Tech 10s. The booties are great, no issues with them at all. I’ve been riding the same pair for over 10 years and it’s about time to resole them. Hot or cold the only boots I will buy.
With your broken crossfire, I believe that panel is replaceable. I have crossfire 3 srs and love them
Ive got a pair of the Fox. Honestly, no issues yet. Very comfortable and Kyle is right on with how easy to walk in they are. Riding with them now 2+ years, but likely dont ride anywhere near as much as Kyle. I also ride east coast trails which is a bit different on demands and terrain than the mountain rides. Also, Kyle hoping you will get a pair of the Tech 7/9s here soon for a review. They are very popular here in Ga, so will be interesting to see your opinion.
Great review very honest 👍🇬🇧
Great review and thanks for sharing it. Give the Alpinestars Tech 7 a try. Basically, on par with the 10 but no bootie. Cheers.
Please show us a video on how to make a cool tyre support on the wall like you have! It looks awsome
Didn't loose any parts on my Instincts yet but I broke 4 straps over the 70h/6months I had them. Not too impressed but they feel great with loads of feel.
I really reccomend you try the leatt boots. I like them a lot the feel and quality is great, only gripe is they may he a tad heavy and a tad squeaky. Ive never gotten a boot so nice especially for it being a "budget" high end boot.
I seem to like the bottom of the line cheap boots. They are lighter more flexible and comfortable. My expensive heavy stiff boots just sit in the garage. Also stiff boots transfer more energy to your knees, making knee braces mandatory.
No Tech 7's in this comparison?? Tech 7 Enduro's are the way to go. Now they have the Tech 7 Enduro Dry Star. (Waterproof). That will be my next boot.
Im buying the dry stars this winter. How are the regular enduros?
@@joe0813 I love them. They feel amazing the first time you slide your foot into them. My first pair have lasted close to 3 years so I'm definitely buying another set. all Tech 7s squeak at the pivot points and the buckles get hard to snap when they are dirty but otherwise solid boots.
@@joe0813 Tech 7 Enduros are fantastic! They are my go-to's!
@@cruisesuski1280 my tech 3’s are squeaky as well how much were your tech 7’s? I want a low price boot but still decent quality my tech 3’s lasted 2 years and still doing good just want a long lasting boot and waterproof would be nice
@@alexdamron3170 you're going to spend close to $400 for tech 7s. But they are so comfortable and we'll made.
Nice review. I also started with Fox, also lost buckles, then AStar Tech 6, Tech 8 didn't like the bootie, SG10 (at the time they were top of the line) now on my second pair of SG12s.
The newer, wider Yamaha pegs just eat up my left sole especially, last time I actually just sent in my left boot for a resole (I send them to MX boot repair in CA, did not get a discount for one boot tho). Been thinking about the SRS for that reason, I keep 2 pairs of SG12s so I have a pair when one is off getting resoled.
SG12 is also much more comfortable than the SG10 imo.
I dont ride as hard as you do anymore. I love my Gaerne trials boots for brake pedal feel and walking around. Alpinestars are like ski boots to me.
Ive been running the Sidi x-3 and they are a good balance between flex and protection. I came from a tech 10 which sound similar to the crossfires as they were crazy stiff but id only run those for mx bc trails I prefer movement as you need more control of the bike and walking more.
I bought Alpinestar tech 7 my cousin bought Fox boots. Fox boots didn't even last a year tech 7's and 5 years and still going. multiply cheap Fox boots by 5 and you save money by buying alpinestar tech 7's
I love my tech 7s straight out of the box they are great 👍
Alpinestars are the most comfortable and protective to me
I haven't had a problem with the Fox Instinct parts coming off like you described, but several buckles on them have broken while putting them on or taking them off. Just seems like the plastic quality isn't that great. Granted, I got mine around 2014 or something.
I do like the comfort (lack of stiffness if you will) and how easy it is to use the pedals with them compared to my previous boots which were TCX Pro 2s which were stiff as hell, but they did last me about 6 - 8 years of riding without a single replacement part.
The inner booties, on the TCX at least, are actually really comfortable and make washing the boost much easier and they dry faster than ones with out them. So I will say there should be no need to worry about that.
I love my Tech 10's, I have 2013 model. I was reading some critical reviews on the current offering. I'm very curious about those SG12s next.
I just picked up sg12s. They are alittle stiff at first. They have memory phone around the ankle and the support is 2nd to none. They also adjust on the top buckle to a bigger size if you have large calves. Don’t hesitate on the sg12s
Fox Instincts are what I crushed my foot wearing. Broke my big toe into 7 pieces and massive bruising up to my knee. Went to SG-12s which were wildly better but after about 60 hours of racing they're falling apart. Forma Predator 2.0 Enduro are my next go to. Super comfortable right out of the box with the same certs as the Gaerne at a better price.
nice overview, thnx
I have had my tech 7s for 4 years. Solid boot.
I got the fox trackers & they are terrible not even close to true to size so I was searching for a new boot with wider toe box & everyone was saying Gaerne I've never even heard of them before, so I just ordered the Gaerne fastbacks I hope there awesome
I would not be discouraged at all by the bootie. I had the origjnal Tech 8's that lasted over 1000 hours. If you do a lot of water crossings the boots with booties are easier to dry out. Currently I'm riding with Crossfire 3 TA's and my only gripe is the rubber hinge on the inside of the ankle gets caught on my frame (square yz 250x frame) making it more difficult to move your feet around. Frame guards solved that though.
Thanks for the video.
I agreed with you on the Gaerne SG12, but you should try the Acerbis X-MOVE 2, great boot and under $400
I love the tech 7s but I returned the tech 10s because the inner boot was uncomfortable. I’m going to try the new Leatt boots next because I love their helmets and goggles
my forma dominator2 are 7 years old - they are bullet proof, nothing has broken in mx racing, hare and hounds and thousands of miles of miles of enduro and green laning in uk countryside which is rock, ruts, bad weather so loads of mud and so on - got shoe that fits inside, very comfy - supremely strong boot with SOOOOooo much stability and zero side wobble etc - bit heavy yeah you know you have them on as they are stiff BUT offer more protection than a tank, the pivot area at the rear is massive and just so damn strong, metal at the front etc - my god i would recommend to anyone especially if you ride nasty terrain that can grab and twist ankles, thse boots will rip trees out the ground before they bend your ankle 🙂
You'd be surprised how stable and comfortable the booty in alpinestars are, the gel cushion on the ankle is top notch and really well designed. My only issues with them is durability the upper boot cuff dissolved into a black oily tar and will stain any riding socks or pants you use.
Wish you would try formas , only boot ill buy , they tick all the boxes for me 👌🏻
Tech 10’s are hands down the best boots I’ve worn. You’ll love the bootie. Washable, heaps of extra ankle support. No heel lift. And you don’t take the bootie out to put on. You insert the booties into the boot, then slide your foot in normally, Velcro the bootie tight then continue clipping the outer boot like another other one
I have had my Gaerna's SG10's for 15 years, yea they are showing some wear and they need new sole's but I love them, I don't think you loose enough protection to cast off the boot once its time for a new sole. I use to have Fox boot, never again. I don't have much of a budget for such things so it is better to buy the best and it will last twice as long.
suggestion for a video: riding alone ? pros & cons.
If you just ride trails alone uhmm uts great cause you can hear to some music and wach the sunset on the way back
Enduro just dont
If you get injured in a place nobody sees you well... You going to be more dead than my grandmas ashes
Track
Sure
If something happens people are always there to help you
TECH 10s: Great content Kyle- I use my boots a bit longer than you (but I don't ride nearly as much) I went from Tech8s to Fox Insticnt to Tech10s. Whole heartedly agree with your opinion on the Instinct (yes, I have a bunch of hardware in my gear bag) I used to think the inner bootie was a PITA until I got my Tech10s and learned to leave the inner bootie in the boot! Don't know if I was the only dumbass putting the bootie on first then trying to cram into the outer boot but by leaving the inner bootie in the boot, you just put your foot in like any other boot, secure the inner velcro and buckle - This inner bootie puts comfort and support on another level compared to boots without - Boot and foot are now one! You should definitely give them a try!
I have had 2 pair of FOX, both the buckles fell apart within the first 4 hours! I am looking at Gaerne for my next pair
I just bought a pair of the Gaerne SG 12 and I love the boots the toebox feels great, the calf area feels fantastic but my instep seams a bit tight. Will this tight feeling eventually loosen up with break-in?
My calves and ankles used to swell and then ache for days when I first got my SG12'S. (Could be my "z-frame" braces I bought at the same time too)
But I started doing up the Velcro at the top of the boot first and then did up all the straps as loose as possible then pushed them in flush.
After a handful of rides I was able to do them up a bit tighter without issue. (Great boots once broken in) but the ankles are way too tight when nrw
I switched to Gaerne from Alpinestars because my feet are wide and the buckle tore off them. I really like my sg10's. Let us know how your new SIDI soles hold up. Another youtuber doesn't think they are as good as they were.
Great video Kyle, could you please share what size Gaerne SG-12 you’re wearing. I’m also a 10.5 in regular shoes and trying to decide what size would be best. Thanks!
what boots and size do you have, im also 10.5 but the blue sidi crossfire 3 srs only have 9.5.
@@luigiramirez29 in Sidi CF2, I’m wearing a size EU45/US11. I just had a chance to try on Gaerne SG12 in person, and the EU44/US9.5 is what I would buy, they felt perfect!
i like your channel of all dirt bike channel 😊
Tech 7
I rode in Alpinestar Tech 8's for years and loved them. I took a break from riding (dumb I know) for about 8 years and when I came back I went with Alpinestar Tech 7 Enduros. They are hands down the worst boot I have ever had. They are very comfortable but you absolutely no feeling on the pegs, braking or shifting and the toe box is so big it is difficult to shift up. Lastly, the soles were toast in just over a year and I don't get to ride very often. I then went to Sidi Crossfire 3 TA's. These are absolutely the best boot I have ever owned, comfortable right away, great feel on pegs and brake pedal. And the soles have lasted amazingly well, boots are almost 3 years old and if it wasn't for the dirt you wouldn't know they had been on a foot peg.
How do you deal with rear brake feel? I have no rear brake feel with the stiffer boots so I'm using some old leather well worn boots.
Can you do an episode on 2021 KTM 300XC fouling plugs? BR7ES fouled 2 today with 5.5hrs on the bike, never had this problem before and not sure what to do.
Yeah need to try ALPINESTARS hands down. I started out with a ragged out pair tech 10s (didn't know what they really were at the time) that i got with a bike. Wanted new ones bought THOR Mx boots with some gear i picked up. Gear was good boots not so much kept wearing the tech 10s. Ended up buying Tech5s love them still have them in great shape. Have a tech7 new set i found at a resale shop that im about to break in anytime.
Tech 7 is by far the best boot on the market, no question. You HAVE to try those next.
facts
It's a really good boot for the money---not the boot with the best protection.
@@brianpolen1087 most comfortable tho
@@caydenthompson126 I agree with that.
Tech 7s are the best boot for the price.
most comfortable period.
I'm 55 and still wearing my leather Alpinestars boots I got when I was 15.
the tech 10 is the best boot i have ever had, you should try them
SG12 all day every day!!!
Tech 7 all the way
Boots are a very personal gear item. I personally really enjoy my TCX Michelin evo 2’s
Sidi Crossfire 2 or 3. Best boots I've ever had.
Ive always used Alpinestars Tech 7's. The first pair I ever got I was 14 and no joke I wore them till I was 32! Probably should have traded them in before then but they were actually still in good condition. 100's or possibly 1000's of hours in them. Lots of woods/enduro style riding too. The new Tech 7s I got 2 years ago are already losing the sole on one boot. But I have much more aggressive foot pegs on my bike nowadays than I ever used to. They have been extremely comfortable since day 1 and have never lost any parts on any Alpinestars boots. I've also had the same experience as you with Fox boots. They are not nearly as tough. They lose buckles and straps often! Bought them for my kids and some buddies have used Fox. Going forward I wont buy Fox boots again. Unless they make some serious improvements
Unfortunately alpine and fox boots are made in places like china, vietnam, cambodia etc. Going with Gaerne for Forma is your best bet, they are made in Europe.
I would have loved to see where you put some alpinestars
I've been reading that the SIDIs have been having problems with the soles, even on the TA models, can you share your experience ?
Can't go wrong with Sidi crossfires!
I've liked my older Sidi. Now prefer my Tech 7's Enduro Drystar. Forma Predators are very comfortable and stout but heavy and a funky buckle. SG-12 will be my next purchase for evaluation.
I have had tech 7s not dry ones but they are slightly more comfortable and lighter but no where close the protection and build quality
Any plan to try out the Leatt 5.5? Very similar to A-Stars without a Bootie.
I have the leatt 4.5 and my dad has the 5.5 and they feel a lot the same, the 4.5 is comfortable yet easy to walk in, where with the 5.5 you can’t really walk in them.
Go ahead Kyle, compare the Fox boots to your Uggs, we won't judge.
The SG12 is not very waterproof is my only take away and why I prefer the SIDI where I ride. If it was dry all the time, then I'd be rocking the SG12s more often than my crossfire 3
Tech 7 is the “off-road” boot the 10s are more motocross focused from my understanding. I have a pair of tech 7s and never looked back.
You shud try out the new leatt boot they are awesome I have a pair and seem to be great quality comfort ect
Are you talking about the leatt 5.5 flexlock? I am interest in that boot. Seems to be geared more for trails than track and are 100 bucks cheaper than the other two i was looking at.
Wich one would you recommend with a wide toebox?
Another point of interest, Alpinestars are no longer mad in Italy. That is a big step backwards IMO.
My sg12s fell apart so fast, the kid i bought my 22 yz450 from gave me a pair of sg12s. Said he wore the, one race. They were like brand new. I rode them this summer trail riding and they are toast. All the plastics broke. Im so bummed i loved the boots.
I have a Astar tech 7 and they are the best boots I have ever had
