8 - How to Add a Vacuum Style Diaphragm Fuel Pump to a Small Engine Generator

  • This is one method you can use to add a fuel pump and remote fuel tank to, really, any small engine powered equipment. This method taps the Overhead Valve Cover for a vacuum/pressure pulse source from which to run the fuel pump. If your engine does not have an Overhead Valve design, or the valve cover is inaccessible for what ever reason, you can always tap the crank case to get a vacuum/pressure source as well.
    The barb I am using is a 1/8" NPT thread with a 1/4" hose barb.
    Please pay close attention to the notes in the video (frames are around the screen shots with the red text boxes) that pertain to finding a suitable location for the tap as well as the details surrounding the tapped hole/tightening the tap. There may not be much clearance inside the valve cover so keep the threads of the tap short!!!
