    Thank you for this video. After numerous searches and lengthy chat sessions with Intuit, your video helped reduce the confusion factor. What isn't readily addressed is the conversion process. I'm told that converting to Desktop Enterprise 2024 is a simple backup/install/restore with no data loss. Intuit was initially saying the same thing about converting to QBO, but I've been through too many conversion projects to put much faith in that. Do you have any online links that discuss the conversion to QBO process? Because we need payroll, we will probably be going with the Desktop Enterprise initially, and then looking at QBO and other non-Intuit options.

    Hi Parkway, I watched the entire video, here's my beef with QB.. As an employer of 1 or 2 employees I need QB online for Mac. But why do I need desktop? Here's why I think. Because I use desktop to do estimates, invoices and balance my checkbook to my desktop register. Note nothing is talking to each other. For example, My desktop is not talking to my online payroll. My online payroll is doing a fine job. It would be nice if the 2 talked with each other but we tried that and support cannot help . It's too confusing when the program does not work flawlessly and I get messages of warnings so I just dont do it. Im older 62 and Im a plastering contractor not an accountant. Here's by beef, I just need a desktop accounting software that's not going to cost me 649.00 this year. What are my options?

    • @Parkwayinc
      @Parkwayinc  Před 4 měsíci +1

      This is a tough question to answer... I am going to assume that each company has a separate EIN number which is why you need the ability to create multiple company files.
      Full disclosure, I am obviously a big Intuit fan but I want to help answer your question. Your top options (in my opionion):
      All prices are AFTER special discount periods and at the MONTHLY rate on purpose and are per company file based on their website:
      FreshBooks: 19.00 per month (limited features) better starting option $33.00 per month
      www.freshbooks.com/pricing-fb
      Xero: $15.oo per month (limited features) better starting point $42 per month
      www.xero.com/us/pricing-plans/
      Wave: $0.00 free version maybe for personal better option $16 per month. www.waveapps.com/pricing
      The following are more for personal expense tracking:
      YNAB: $15.00 per month
      www.ynab.com/pricing
      Pocketsmith: $15 per month but they have a free version also. Cool program with bank feeds
      my.pocketsmith.com/plans
      There are dozens of other options of course... but as I said in the video, before you make the switch to save some money each month, book a time for us to talk on the phone (for free) to discuss.
      Really consider how much money you will save per month versus what features you will loose AND MORE importantly, how much extra work it will require during tax time.

    Great video. I'm really fighting quickbooks online. I have used desktop since 2011 and am very used to it. I'm an electrical contractor and like to keep things simple. I hate the learning curve. I'm afraid I can't have all the same type of reporting I need to access in desktop. (TBH, I haven't explored it much). I use desktop to pay my guys. BUT my accountant has to have me bring them a thumb drive. I see where QB Enterprise Hosting would let you have cloud access and I think I've read it's similar in feel to QBD? However, I'm not a big company. Less than 10 employees so I think Enterprise would be overkill? Thanks

      The answer is $300 per user, per year. So you pay the initial $949 per year for the software and then an additional $300 per user per year per added user. For example, a two user system would be $1,249 per year, a 5 user system would be $2,149 per year, etc.

    • @Parkwayinc
      @Parkwayinc  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thank you for your question, I am trying to find you a clear answer but so far I do not have one. What I can share comes from their 2024 End User License Agreement: quickbooks.intuit.com/software-licenses/qb2024_and_intuit_payroll_services_eula/
      3.1.4. Multi-User License and Multi-User Add-On Pack Licenses
      Certain versions of the Software or Subscription may allow for multiple additional users of the specific edition of the Software you have Subscribed to use, if applicable, upon payment of an additional license fee for each such additional user. If you purchased a multi-user Subscription license or add-on pack you may install the Software on the number of computers equal to the number of user licenses for which you purchased Subscriptions - or, for the QuickBooks Desktop Mobile App, on your mobile device(s), all for the duration of your paid Subscription term.
      You understand and agree that access to and use of the Software is solely for the number of specific persons corresponding to the number of user Subscription licenses you purchased, with no substitution of such users except as expressly permitted by this Section. By way of example only, if you have 10 employees in your company, and if you have only paid for 3 user Subscription licenses for your specific edition of the Software, you are granted a limited non-exclusive license to: download and install the Software on up to 3 computers which are owned and operated by and for your company; and allow up to 3 individuals only (who are your owners, employees, or contractors) access the Software or Subscription during the paid Subscription term. You may also: (a) place a copy of your Software data file(s) on a network to be accessed and used by such individuals (and install the Software on one additional computer above the number of the license(s) you purchased, solely to accompany your Software's shared data file, and not for direct use of the Software by another user); and (b) for each user license you purchased, make one copy of the printed materials accompanying the Software, if any, or print one copy of any online user documentation provided in relation to the Software, solely for use by such licensed user, all solely during the paid Subscription term. If a licensed user is no longer employed by your company, you may reassign that employee's user license to another user within your company (i.e., designate a new specific employee to use the license formerly used by the departed employee). All users in a multi-user environment must be using licensed copies of the same version year of the Software. Use of the Software by each additional user will be subject to the same restrictions as the single user license. You are responsible for ensuring that all licensed users, including any added licensed users, comply fully with the terms of this license.

      Hi,
      Thank you for watching and commenting!
      To answer your question, the payroll functions will all be moving to their QuickBooks Online Payroll (Standalone) environment. For business owners, this is a good thing. It is easier to work with and automate more of the process. For accountants, it will take away a lot of our power to rebuild historical payroll data in an efficient manner.
      I am a HUGE fan of QuickBooks Online, it has dramatically helped my clients and my practice. There are, however, situations which warrant staying in the desktop environment. @Parkwayinc  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Great questions! For the past couple of years, Intuit has required that you connect every new QuickBooks Desktop company file to an Intuit user account. So far, there has not been a limitation to the number of company files that can be created under a single license. I just scrolled through the 2024 End User License Agreement and I did not find a total number of concurrent files listed.
      That link for your own reference is: quickbooks.intuit.com/software-licenses/qb2024_and_intuit_payroll_services_eula/
      It is worth noting that you must add a new payroll subscription to each company file that you need to access payroll.

      @Parkwayinc  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Upgrade is just a matter of clicking a few buttons after you buy the new license, install it, and then try to open the old company file. Once you open it with the new version, it will ask you if you want to upgrade. Keep in mind, anyone using an older version (like your accountant) will not be able to open the company file unless they upgrade also!
      QB Pro 2024 is still available as a subscription until the end of the month!

    After purchasing the Desktop Pro 2024, and the subscription ends, does that mean you cannot use the product after the 1 yr subscription or do you just lose the support that comes with it? For example, when you used to buy the desktop versions even though it was not "supported" the product still worked. How does this work now?

    • @Parkwayinc
      @Parkwayinc  Před 2 měsíci

      Each year you will need to renew your subscription to continue to use the software. So if you do not continue to pay for it, it will not work at all is my understanding.

    You say you are a big fan of quickbooks online. You have to be paid by quickbooks to say that. EVERY time I login online it is glitchy, the green dots spin around and it says there is a problem. There is nothing any better about the program being online that I can see. How do you get access when your internet is down? And what are you going to do when quickbooks online gets hacked like everything else has been, and they steal your information? You can still do your books on a desktop with no internet, even with no power if you have solar backup. And you can't be hacked if your only have quickbooks on a computer that is really never online.

    • @Parkwayinc

      Well I must say this is not the normal positive tone comment or request for information that I normally receive on my channel. Appreciating that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it is not my place to try to change your mind the primary question I want to address is your first.
      I was not paid by Intuit to make this video. Actually, if I had to guess, this video would not make them very happy. For the sake of full transparency, I HAVE been paid by Intuit in the past and I am a proud member of their Trainer Writer Network. I find the best way to have my voice heard and try to motivate changes I would like to see is to work with the company instead of against them.
      Without a doubt there are many benefits to the desktop product. The decision to continue to use it is the right solution for many small businesses. My goal with this video was to provide them easier access to the desktop product before it is no longer offered.
      I also cannot argue about the concerns around hacked data, just remember, someone could still hack into your computer and lock it up for a ransom. Best practice to avoid all of that would be to go back to the good old paper green sheets!
      Regardless of the banter provided above, should you have any questions that I might be able to help you with, feel free to reach out. I would be happy to have a free conversation to discuss the differences between the programs or even make some suggestions for other options all together if you decided to leave the Intuitsphere.

    Hate the online version. Can't even complete setup without error messages. I am getting the impression that the online version requires me to let them have my bank info and they essentially try to do my payroll for me. Because I cannot complete this I cannot verify whether I can avoid linking my bank account. Anyway, if I stay with desktop will I need to manually calculate my payroll taxes or will the program do that, just not pay taxes or file reports? Again, I do not need them to do any of my payments or reporting but I did like the calculations.

    • @Parkwayinc
      @Parkwayinc  Před 3 měsíci

      With QuickBooks Online, you have the option to connect your banks for bank feeds to start to automate your accounting. Regarding payroll, you do have the ability to migrate up to the QuickBooks Online Payroll to pay your employees via direct deposit and automatically pay and file all of your payroll taxes.
      Regarding your question about payroll, once they turn payroll off you will not be able to process payroll at all and you will not receive any updates on payroll laws or be able to update rates.
      If you do not want to use either of those services, you do not have to. If you do not connect your bank accounts, you would have to either manually enter transactions or upload them via CSV or OFX file.
      If you have more questions, book a phone call and lets discuss.

      Thank you for watching and commenting! To answer your question... I am very fortunate to have been able to create a relationship with Intuit and was a part of the Intuit Trainer Writer Network until it was recently "sunsetted". It has provided me the opportunity to act as a voice for my fellow accounting professionals from time to time. I take this opportunity very seriously and do my best to share our concerns in a positive manner. This is a perfect example. We have been complaining for months that as accountants we could not skip passed all the sales tactics when all we wanted to do was help our clients to buy a license without being told that QBDT was no longer available.
      An email was sent out to a group of us providing a link to this specific website. I decided to share this link to help everyone else who did not have access.
      Based on your comment, do you need to purchase your own accountants copy of QBDT? If you do, connect with me via Facebook messenger and I can share the order form with you. facebook.com/Spotycus

    Hi, am i have to buy QBox if i want to be a freelancer ? Or does the client give me access to whatever system he uses?

    • @Parkwayinc
      @Parkwayinc  Před 3 měsíci

      Just to make sure I am answering correctly... QBox is an amazing software that allows you to sync a QuickBooks Desktop company file between multiple different computers. The key is each computer must have a licensed copy of the same version of QuickBooks to be able to work in the same company file.
      As a cloud based accountant, this is why I pay extra money every year for my ProAdvisor Subscription so I have copies of each version of QuickBooks Desktop that my clients may be using.
      So to answer your question, you will need a licensed copy of the software to use it on your computer. The only other option would be for you to remote into the computer using something like TeamViewer or AnyDesk and then remotely do the work by control the computer with the license. Keep in mind those software require a commercial license to do that. You are not supposed to do that with the free personal versions.

      There is no official word at this time so I cannot guarantee anything. My best guess would be this will work AT LEAST through May 2026 when they would normally sunset these features. Since the new product offerings require a monthly subscription, it is very possible that they could extend the life of this product out much further. I think we will know much more by January 2025.

      Here is a little bit extra detail:
      "If you purchased the QuickBooks 2024 ProAdvisor Premier or Enterprise Software Bundle, or are an Enhanced Payroll Plus customer, Intuit will provide support for the 2024 Subscription version of the Software (initially fulfilled with your subscription) until the earlier of: (1) the date on which you are required by Intuit to update or upgrade the Software as set forth in this Agreement; or (2) the date on which your current-term Subscription terminates; (whichever comes first).

    • @Parkwayinc
      @Parkwayinc  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi Sorry for my slow response... tax season and all.
      When they "sunset" a version they shut down all external data connection capabilities.
      This means that *Payroll* will not work and is not updated.
      It also means *merchant processing* gets shut off. You could still use an online version and manually update the payments yourself.
      *Sales Tax* updates are shut off.
      Most important: *Bank feeds* and the ability to import data through the banking center are completely disconnected. You can still use the batch enter transactions feature built into the Accountants version.
      The accountants version is a little unique since we can use it to open old files and upgrade them to newer versions. They are also unique because you can download an older version and install it on a different computer and NOT ALLOW IT TO connect to the internet so it does not update. (Reading between the lines I hope).
      I understand your position, I have one client that is still using QB Desktop 2021. For them to upgrade to 2024 means that I WILL have to upgrade to 2024 Accountant to be able to service they file. I have explained to them, if they want to continue with Desktop they will have to absorb a hefty portion of my cost so I can keep working with them.

I did hear you say on the video that QB 2024 requires an annual subscription but saying that essentially creates a distinction without a difference inasmuch as a monthly "online" subscription is available as well. Other than my QB data being stored in the cloud if an online QB subscription is obtained, I see no difference between purchasing an "annual subscription" versus an online one. The title of your video suggests that I had the ability to make a one time purchase (with or without a disk) but apparently that is not the case.
