  • Join me for an engaging abstract painting session. In this painting demo, I work with an art prompt all about using secondary colors-green, orange, and purple-to show you how versatile and captivating these colors can be in abstract art. Using my mixed media sketchbook, I tackle a 20-minute painting challenge.
This video is perfect for anyone looking to enhance their art prompts repertoire, as it's inspired by a prompt from the download “50 Abstract Warm-up Painting Prompts" (www.etsy.com/listing/16615441...) These sketchbook prompts are designed to push the boundaries of traditional painting techniques, encouraging more spontaneous and engaging abstract painting sessions.

As part of my intuitive painting process, I started with a vibrant background of orange and green, mixed with white to soften the tones. I chose violet as my dominant color, allowing it to overlay the background in dynamic sweeps, which created a captivating interplay of colors on my 98lb sketchbook paper. The goal was to let the undercolors peek through, adding depth and focal points to the composition.
For those interested in painting prompts that emphasize freedom and a lack of rigid structure, this abstract painting exercise serves as an excellent foundation. The constraints of time and palette allow for a deeper exploration of intuitive painting strategies and the relationships between colors.
In the last minutes, I incorporated oil pastels and details with black and white posca markers, adding texture and contrast. The use of secondary colors in art prompts encourages mixing shades to discover new, neutral tones, enhancing the visual appeal of the work.
Although I wasn't completely satisfied with the final piece, the process was incredibly meditative. I got lost in the music and the motion of painting, fully immersed in the moment. This video isn't just about creating an engaging abstract painting; it's about the journey of exploration and expression within the confines of your sketchbook.
Whether you're a seasoned artist or just starting, these abstract painting exercises and art prompts are designed to inspire and challenge your creative limits. Join me in this artistic adventure, and let's transform simple art prompts into profound pieces of art.
    And remember, keep on painting!

I liked it up to when you used the white pen.
It stopped being an abstract paintwork and became more illustrative.
I liked you using your finger, as I do that a lot.
Enjoyable watch on colours that might not be so easy on the eye.
    Joanna.😊

Thanks, Joanna! It definitely went in an illustrative direction. One of my favorite ways to blend acrylics is with my fingers. I could probably paint with my fingers all day.😊

Hey Susan! Yeah, this color palette could go south pretty quickly. It's a challenge to make these work together. Have fun mixing!
