Great fix! Many years ago while working at Discount Tire a coworker and I used wheel weight tape on ours, worked great with the added weight but your fix looks cleaner and the magnetic hold seems like it would work better.

buy a universal power port with pigtails, they unscrew just like the cig lighter does, wire it up and screw the port in. 🍻

I've had my '91 for 31 years and the original ashtray door still works properly. However, when, not if, it finally does fail, will your kit still work if the little cigarette snuffer thing has been removed from the actual ashtray? I carefully removed mine many years ago just to make it a little more handy as a cubby. Thanks.

I bought the kit separately from Amazon and didn’t work like yours did. The magnet is very strong and picks up the ashtray with the door when opening. 😬

Try to place your magnet not directly to that part of the ashtray otherwise yes, those magnets are super strong

@@TheInfamousProject I have broken a couple of pairs because of how strong they are when attracting to any piece of metal. 😬 Also, I had a piece fall on the seat track between the passenger seat and console. It was a pain in the neck to get it off. 😩

I've had several fox body cars and not once have I ever broken an ashtray, because I don't treat my cars like shit. I have fixed many ash tray doors, and not once did it break again during my ownership. You have to be doing something dumb to break one. I know they're a weak design but if you treat them properly they will last.

I couldn't agree more. I'm the original owner of my '91 LX and my ashtray door has been fine this whole time. I wish a had a way to show my car to you guys. I've taken care of it all these years and, to me anyway, it's really nice.
