- BBC director-general Tim Davie has said Laura Kuenssberg conducted herself in an “exemplary fashion” during her new politics show, where comedian Joe Lycett appeared to sarcastically praise the new Prime Minister Liz Truss.
The first episode of the BBC’s Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg made headlines after the stand-up jokingly claimed during the programme he was “very right-wing” and that he felt “reassured” following Truss’ live interview in the studio.
Discussing impartiality within the BBC during a Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee meeting on Tuesday, Mr Davie said he did not think having Mr Lycett booked for the show displayed “BBC bias in the slightest” as he felt “the audience saw it for what it was”.
A committee member also spoke about how sports pundit Gary Lineker, one of the BBC’s highest earners, has on occasion voiced his opinion on political matters on social media.
Mr Davie said he has had discussions with Mr Lineker over the years about him following BBC impartiality guidelines and feels he has made a “massive improvement to where he was a few years ago”.

@shaun lynch I Don’t have a tv licence and I don’t watch any tv or catch-up. Why should BBC dictate to me which they do by sending me yet another letter I cannot watch any live programs including talk tv. That is my argument. Do the BBC give any of the licence fee to other tv companies ?
@shaun lynch It Doesn’t work like that I’m afraid. When I phoned them up to cancel the license fee they then ran through different questions that needed a answer yes or no. Watch or steam any live content through online services like Amazon prime video, ITV Hub, All 4 and You tube. This could be on any device TV,computer,Laptop mobile phone table game’s console and digital box. Only time I can watch any live and that’s when I’m babysitting for my son which is next door.

Yesterday evening I settled down to watch something on Netflix up popped call the midwife then big BBC Lettering across the bottom hence couldn’t watch it. It’s about time BBC wound their neck in if they sell a program which I helped to subside at the time of them making that program surly I should be able to watch it I have received another letter again so just have to wait and see.

I live in Belfast and I despise the BBC my house has a, sky dish so I had a. Man called about the licence I argued the point I don't watch. It. And I don't see. That I am paying for something. I don't. Use. But I was told that I would. Be taking, to court so against my better judgement I signed up. For a licence I am out of work at the monent and. I missed. Two. Payment s, simply I thought eating was more lnportant I, received a summons to appear in court in Oct I have since changed the payment over to my wifes name so when I go my name disappeared and. There fore I am paying for something that is no longer in my name and something. I have never used and I bet you a pound to a penny that its only white people that they are hounding cause we can't use the magic word racist so please don't think that we are incourageing them in any way and I don't know is the laws different on the main land than us believe me if I have a choice I wouldn't give the bastards a penny and we know what they are getting away with is so wrong I dare say that they is a lot of, back handers going on I. John Mair, who's specialist subject appears to be "Missing The Point Entirely". No matter which way you look at this, bbc employees ("freelance" or otherwise) are expected to be politically neutral - at least as regards publishing/broadcasting their opinions. This is part of the deal and what they sign up to. Failure to do so brings their employer into disrepute.

I recommend the book "The Fake News Factory". It really is quite an eye-opening read on the BBC's deceitful behaviour concerning bias.
It's a poorly researched, badly presented argument, feeding the frenzy of many in this channel who are lit up for outrage and not debate or ideas. We live in a failed state and the BBC reflects that more clearly.

Of course Gary Lineker is entitled to his opinions when he is not working for the BBC and can twitter as much as he wants. However, when he is on Match of the Day, a programme about football, he should stick strictly to talking about football and not talk about anything else, unless that involves football as well. For instance, he could talk about Brexit affecting football, though not about the rights and wrongs of Brexit itself.
The point JHB is saying is that when you sign a contract with the BBC you can not voice your opinion on political subjects like the PM or Brexit or Labour or anything yet all we hear from everyone at the BBC is their political opinions
