I fitted the VNT from Turbo Technics a couple of years ago to my Defender, really pleased with it, changed the transfer box to a 1.1 to 1, and it still pulls like a train
1/4 mile time improvement over stock, would nice to know. ty 4 vid
Love this! Just bought my disco2 on Friday. Gotta start saving for more power now. Will u b getting it on a dyno to get hp and torque figures?
If the opportunity presents itself, I will, nothing I have planed right now
Great vid! Thank you 🙏
What was your hot oil pressure?
what kind of map sensor it is?
Does this create a noticeable increase in smoke?
Great video, like all the others on your channel. Just a quick question, where did you get the bar and fence behind the driver seat?
Love it What a result it's a Beast
It really is! It seems that every expensive SUV wants to race me now... And of course I take up the challenge every time!
Question, how did the “new core” you fitted to the original Garret perform? I’m looking to replace the core on my turbo but being fussy on what brand to go with
Hola donde puedo comprar ese kit de turbo me gusto mucho saludos desde Chile.
Hi
Great video.
does the the waste gate work of pressure or vacuum?
I have the new turbo and getting ready to fit .
Your feedback will be highly appreciated
Thanks
Can you list the parts number og the sensor you Are mounting to eliminate over boost?
What about diesel charge. Increased?
Hello, very nice content videos. I have a Disco 2 TD5 2004 model. I see that you have good knowledge about Landrover’s, do you know by any chance if TC from Disco 1 is compatible with Disco2? I am trying to make an upgrade to CDL. Thank you in advance and a Happy new Year.
hello i installed turbo vbt in my car but i don't know how to install the software in ecu ?? who can help me
Nice job, I've always had a soft spot for Discovery 2s. Are you planning one of your off roading videos with the D2?.
Yes, once we've fitted a winch to the new bumper we'll go and get it stuck somewhere 😆
@@TirsbaekTV Obviously getting it stuck on purpose, just to test the winch 😉
Good afternoon! I wanted to inquire about a car that uses a turbine for a land rover Discovery 2 TD5 if I wanted to impose a VNT
Now I want one - could you stop please!
Never! 😂
Love one of those :) JUst finished a trip to germany and back to Finand with my 21 year old d2 mone needs something more quite remappped but smoky on good pulls and temps go up :( Not to boil but quite high especially when raining which makes no sense to me
Sounds like an awesome trip! Did jo go Finland-Estonia-Poland-Germany or boat?
Drove all the way southern Germany to my friends and then back again
Boat is too damn expensive LOL cheaper to drive
@@jjt1093 Quite a drive!
@@TirsbaekTV definitely but used to do that every year :)
Will you have any problem with the drive train? Can the gearbox handle the extra power??
You want to change the clutch, but a gearbox in good condition, will keep up with the power. I got the higher 5th V8 gear and HD support bearings for ind- and output shaft, just to be on the safe side, but stock R380 will take it
Where can i buy this vnt?
Have you seen / read the air box mod, where you remove the cyclone inlet. I’ve done it on mine , nothing tangible to prove, but it surely opens up more available area
I did think about doing it, and will do if I can't get enough air into the engine
@@TirsbaekTV I brought a 3 inch stainless exhaust and serck intercooler trying to reduce EGT. I tried the 3 inch first without the intercooler upgrade. it did not help at all. i was running the decat and mid muffler delete. serck helped but not that much . maybe the manual serck would provide better cooling. I'm not chasing power, just keeping the engine cool. will be interesting to see if the new turbo helps reduce the EGT
@@troymortimer3487 I haven't got a EGT sensor, but might look into it in the future, but I haven't had the tempture of the engine reach higher than normal, but the high EGT's should be a fault in the map or injector surely? 🤔
@@TirsbaekTV I'm guessing its always in the map. EGTs are only an issue when doing 110km looking to overtake or pushing it hard up a hill. zero to 100 is no problem. I thinking have a lift, bigger tires and roof rack doesn't help with aerodynamics. I would love to see what your EGTs are. interesting to see where you put the probe. lot of debate on that as well. cheers
Welcome to my world (at last 😛). It's pretty ridiculous how hard you can make a D2 pull, isn't it...
It really is! It should have left the factory with this type of turbo and tune, but I don't think the technology was at that level
@@TirsbaekTV Yeah, I'm really curious as to why they didn't run a VNT, given Nissan were using them (GT2052V) on the ZD30 motor from 2000 (My first VNT conversion used that exact turbo, worked well!). I can only suspect they had questions about reliability of VNTs long term - or they didn't want to upstage the V8...
The other big fault with a D2 is the auto version (which outsold manuals by a huge margin here in Australia). I don't generally like autos anyway, but the D2 especially was just not a great transmission, completely sapped all the lively character out of the Td5. Unfortunately 6 speed (or even 5 speed) autos would have been prohibitively expensive at the time I guess.
If the D2 had sold in that level of tune/turbo, and with a 6 speed auto option, I reckon they would have easily doubled their sales numbers, and there wasn't exactly a shortage of them on the road in Australia already! Less common to see on the road these days, but still plenty getting around/for sale...
@@EvilGTV Could be that they didn't want to upstage the V8 - Never thought of that! 🤔 - The 4 speed autobox should have been a 6 speed! I do dream (plan) about swapping one of the farm Land Rovers to a M57 with a 6-speed auto 🤫
Its the same size as standard just lower boost at RPM!
It looked a bit bigger, might just be because it was new and shiny! But the low end boost is amazing! Much rather have a VNT than a hybrid for this setup
@@TirsbaekTV why rather a vnt than hybrid ?
@@KaraLeo1 All down to the low end pull, with the higher LT230 gearing and higher 5th V8 gear in the R380. An absolute joy to drive!
The engine was a 10p or 15p model?
It's a 2003 or 2004 D2, so most lightly a 15p engine.
Is there a difference in turbo boost when measured on your nanocom vs boost gauge?
No, I use the Nanocom to adjust the boost guage, so they match up :)
@@TirsbaekTV thanks for the reply. What did you cap your MAP reading at? MAP less AAP = turbo boost? Also, I think I see a stage 2 vs stage 3 td5 race coming.
@@rjakoet The Stage 2 vs Stage 3 vs new V8 is sure to happen!
@@rjakoet The turbo is limited to 1.5 bars max and 1.6 peak at times (Set from Turbo Technics). The boost acuator hose did come off and I hit 2.2 Bars 😬 All down to a faulty hoseclamp
did you prime the turbo with oil ?
I did put oil down into the feed, and cranked it until 1 Bar of oil pressure
Topshit. But the price??? Cheers 🍻
900.50£ for the kit if you are in the UK. You do need a bigger intercooler, a remap, and so on, for the full effect :)
@@TirsbaekTV And the price for all of that? Tk go to stage 3. Cheers 🍻
@@Defender110SLO The Intercooler (Serck motorsport) 475.20£, EGR (all depending on what model) between 20-40£ and remap is normally around 200-300£, and a new HD clutch from LOF SMF Power spec or Extreme Spec: 425-490£
where i can find this "airfilter gadget"??????
Search for "fish tank connector 63mm" and you should find them
Where's project bob?
Project Bob has been dismantled and some of the parts sold off as we want to focus on the Creeper now.
Did you had to rebuild the engine?
No, only swapped service parts :)
Why use such an old and outdated VNT design? That is technology from over 10 years ago! You should also be making way more than 1.6 BAR. Just goes to show how behind Storm Tuning is...
What turbo setup and remap would you recommend? 🤔
@@TirsbaekTV could you right down the part number of the turbocharge???
Cheaters :) I was hoping to see how you struggle getting that turbo off the manifold. Heard the screws tend to crack.
