I had a 2door like that in 66 wasn't very old back then. It had factor bucket a
Seats and a factory console It was 2 tone blue lite over dark the Seats and door panels were also 2 tone blue with a silver bead separating the colors. Wish I had back and still in the same condition, it was like new and a beautiful car.
The beauty of the small block Ford. 221, 260, 289, 302 and 351.
Very nice engines.
I have a 63 sport coupe with a cammed 289 in it's original chestnut paint. Was a government car and ended up sitting in a field for 10+ years, now it's a good cruiser. These are great cars.

I like being an amateur mechanic. I have great respect for professionals. They really have to up their ‘stuff’ to be successful….diagnose fast, work fast, no mistakes, work with customers, etc.

Seeing these old fords bring back memories of my grandpa. He bought a 63.5 falcon brand new drove it and then parked it for years. Then one day he decided to restore it from the frame up, and I helped do a lot of work. As a Christmas present before he passed he gave it me and I still have it to this day. I don’t drive it a lot but I’m also in the process of changing it over to a 4 barrel and HEI. Right now everything is 100% original. During the restoration the trunk latch was bad and it took us probably 6 months to find an OEM latch from 1963. Also apparently the 63.5 falcon sprint was kinda rare. From what I’ve read it was basically the launching platform for the first mustangs. Mine has a 260 with a 4 on the floor.
It sounds like a great car, particularly with the 4 speed. Howard over at the Dependable Auto and Truck channel is performing an HEI conversion on this 64. Also, the video we have of the Tennessee junkyard has a lot of Falcons in case you need parts.
I’ll have to go watch it. I’ve had the parts since last Christmas just haven’t found the time to finish it up. The car had been barn kept with a cover over it up until the time of restoration so there was very little rust most was surface. We tore it down to frame, rebuilt the motor, went thru tranny and rear end, and then put all back together. Only thing I wish was done differently was to powder coat the frame. It was painted but a powder coat would have been great. Still has all original Chrome, all the stickers ford puts on motor and air cleaner. Even left it as a generator setup. Also this is one of the best channels for revivals and will it run I have ever seen. Keep up great work and have a great new year!!

Have the same car. Swapped the 260 for a 351w 650 edlebrock aluminum intake headers and mild cam. A 4 door that truly surprises people!! Just finished body and paint. Sanding and buffing now. It truly is a lot of work!! Keep up the good work yourselves!! Cheers!

Beautiful! I have a 64 Fairlane 500 myself, has the small block 260 Windsor which was essentially the same as the 289. And has the two speed Ford o Matic transmission. 64 was the last year for both the 260 and 2 speed. You have the 289 and Cruise o Matic 3 speed. That's a great find. Along with the Studebaker wagon you found. Nice!!!

Interesting and I saw a couple of other ones in the background hope we see them in future episodes. Always had a soft spot for these little Fair Lanes. We had one sitting by Barn for a decade. The guy taking his mom's car to get the oil changed. They didn't have job they just got to put the new oil in it. Drove the car out locked it up. We probably have longer than that. They were going back and forth back and forth about who fault it was. They settled and just forgot to tell us. You brought the title by one day and said you can do with it what you want. My dad thought gee thanks. Anyway the shorter story was by the time I was around 20 we had an old Thunderbird falcon as well and I sold all three of them to collector. What was special about that Fairlane is like it's brand new at 9,885 mi original. No body damage rust stain or tears in the upholstery. Nothing. Had that little 220 V8. Whatever the smallest v8 Ford made I think that was the CID. Back then it was an oddball four-door. Should put in the barn and kept it for a few more decades. But who was to know. Another interesting episode that brought up another memory of mine you two take care of while you're out there driving around

Howard seems like a cool old dude. But I gotta tell ya I think most of the viewers of these types of channels do know what it's like to do this kind of stuff. We appreciate the hard work and the love of old cars. It's why we're here. I'm 62 and was working on cars when I was a teenager and maybe not at the level of some of these channels but when you're lying on the ground in the cold and wet belly-%$#@ing a 400 hydro into it's home then it's all relative. :)

That car is in great shape for its age. The lines are all straight, not much rust, a very respectable interior.
Will you do a follow up on it ?. It looks a very solid car.
The ‘will it start’ is always the most interesting part, but also the ‘before and after’ shots really let you see what’s underneath all the dust and dirt.
Anyway another excellent video from you both, I’m looking forward to seeing what’s coming up in the future.

My 58 cadillac my parents bought in 1960 , was given to me by mom in 1982, still on the road, I have never had to replace any fuses, they look ANCIENT in the fuse block, and probably ARE THE ORIGINAL ONES. Everything still works, including the power windows, lifelong Southern California car, on the road.

Pretty cool Fairlane, I had a 62 Fairlane 4 door with a 240 - 6 banger and 3 on the tree. It was a solid car too but that was early 77' when I had that. And as far as Car Quest, they hasn't been one around here since about the early 90's or something. I was wrong about the car quest thing, I guess there is still some around SE and Southern KY, looks like. But Lexington KY here there hasn't been any in quite a while. I was thinking, weren't they part of KOI auto parts...., Oh that Fairlane of mine, someone had swapped the original 170 - 6 banger that came in it for that 240 and they had made an adapter plate so they could fit a motorcraft 2 barrel carb on it.
19:40....... amazingly car quest still exists! There's currently one alive and well in Saint Peter MN :)

I really don't think that's a stock 289 and I think Howard started having old feelings come back about turning wrenches and making old machines run after he hung around with Richard for a couple of days.Great work keeping the ship afloat♥️

Drop a 428 in it with a mustang 2 front independent suspension coil over shocks all around with a 4 link rear suspension and a possie rear end. New chrome and buff job, paint the trunk lid, new head liner, new wheels and tires, disk brakes all around, and you'll have a sweet ride. IT's amazing the condition the body is in....just a very solid car. The interior is unbelievable other than worn armrests and damaged head liner.

My first car in 73 was a 1966 ford fairlane 289 V8 but it did not look like this car. The front lights were stacked and the tail lights were square not round. Mine was a 3 speed on the column.
Get er running throw can od B12 Chemtool down it's throat, it will clean her right up. For future vids. Use it all the time, makes a heck of a difference, dump in after warmed up at mid idle. See VGG use it all the time and he's right, major improvements. Great vids guys!!!

Guys this one really does deserve more time and energy. I know it's not yours so what can you do but what a diamond in the rough! This car is from the time when this technology was at some of it's finest!! The 289 Ford engine was also one of the finest of it's time. They used it as the original engine (Tuned up higher mind you) in the testing of the Ford GT40 of the "Ford VS Ferrari" fame. Later on as the emissions came in in the early 1970's it choked out the engines of this era and they also had lower and lower compression lift etc. So this 289 with the 4 barrel carb made about 225 -271 HP and 312 torque ish. (Around 200 hp with the 2 barrel etc). It had 10.5:1 Compression and with a set of headers and some other small tinkering it could get over 315 hp. Of course this engine could make more if really dug into. You could order the Fairlane with the 390ci (330hp plus stock) and the whopping 427ci with 410 hp plus with11.5:1 Compression and you could order it with the 4 speed on the floor or a three speed on the tree! You gotta love em all!!.
Greg, you really know these cars well! I had no idea the 289 was such a potent engine, nor that it was used in the prototype GT40. Amazing. Thank you for taking the time to put this down in writing.
The 289 was also used in the 1966 Shelby gt 350 with solid lifters. I have a magazine where they compared it to a 1976 cobra 302 anemic v8 with 150 less horses! Anyone can guess the outcome.

Carquest is Advance Auto. I absolutely love that car too bad it wasn't a four-door although I'm really starting to get a check to some of these four doors. Cooze Cruiser!!! Richard Tech tip of the day when you're tapping on a carburetor to see if the floats are stuck or not don't tap on the body of the carburetor tap on the screws they're easier to replace if you screw them up but you'll never replace that body if you break it!

Now we're talking about a real fantastic car. Very cool car. If you could keep it then jam a big block and a transmission with an overdrive on it [T6 or something?]. You can adapt just about any transmission to nearly every engine... be handy to know a machinest but ya :-)) Adapter plates and the right throw-out bearing and ya. :-)) Single champer master cylendars should be illegal to put on the street... No back up if you lose even one line on the system. Anyway... cool car.

No rust because it's a dry western car I'm in Michigan, these car's been gone since the 90s. Lot of old cars out there
As a lifelong Southern California native, I think, see, LOTS OF RUST HERE.! I'm sure the undercarriage has lots of it. My 68 Mustang and 58 cadillac don't have anything like this on them.
@@johnfranklin5277 Let me clarify, lot of old car's out west AWAY from the coast! This is self explanatory. I been involved with old car's as my interest since the late 80s and eg, Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona out in the dry states there's a lot of vintage cars that are mostly rust free. Check out CTC auto Ranch or Desert Valley Auto Parts those yards have 1000s of old car's from the 30s-80s clean. You're by the coast so salt from the ocean rots metal 🙄

that carpet is factory. It's just really sunfaded. The 38K miles might be believable. "289 Special" is how the 289 was branded, it should be a C-code 289-2v. That master cyl may very well be original or at least a rebuilt original - that's how they were, same style as my '64 Galaxie XL. Plastic cap wasn't original though. The carburetor is also correct for that engine. If those plugs were Autolite BF-42s, they are pre-1972 at least. I really don't think the car's been touched to speak of. One of my high school friends had a very similar car to this in '71-72 - identical interior.
You're right, it has not been touched. I found out later it is an original 38K mile ex-police car. The owner bought it new as a patrolman.
Those were negative ground but you hooked the reed wire to the neg. terminal on the battery.
The cable colors were reversed. It is something I see a lot, either that or both cables are one color.
