Yeah there are a few old news reports on CZcams where parents complain about how it's a scam, crazy to think that back then console generations didn't really exist, parents just thought the kids would play the NES until it broke like any other toy, they didn't really get the graphical difference between the NES and SNES, they just saw the same games again. It even was like that with the N64, even though the games were 3d, the parents just saw the same game.

Couldn't agree more, too bad mine broke about a decade ago, still enjoying the games on the Built-in SNES Classics on the Switch though.
I'm more of a Sega guy with a mega drive. I have wanted a SNES for quite a while and need to get one before any more stupid inflation. I'm going to wait until January though to avoid Christmas and lockdown price inflation.

That was due to the Video Game Crash in 1982 by Atari, in fact Nintendo wanted to get the videogame marketing outside of Japan, but scared for failing, they called their first machine, the NES, an “Entertainment Sistem” sorry for any mispronunciation I’m not English/American. By the way, I love all the work that Nathaniel Bandy does for let us know this pieces of trivia/knowledge. Thanks to him, I discovered how marvellous the Nintendo 64 was

The system that holds the title of "My favourite console from before I was even born" - don''t have an actual SNES but I've played a lot of its games through Virtual Console and Switch Online and my goodness they've aged so well! I prefer a lot of its library over a lot of the modern games from my era!

Funny thing is, if the Genesis was apparently more powerful than the SNES, I've never seen a single game that demonstrates that - kinda the same thing with the Master System and NES though.
Nintendo has always been multiple steps in front of Sega.

The Genesis could have have sprites moving at once because of the faster clock speed. However the SNES had a much larger color pallatte as well as more RAM. It couldn't move as many sprites at once but it could have far more complex background and could have a lot of static or near static sprites.
Later on the larger color pallate of the SNES really was it's biggest strength. As production tools became more advanced sprites could better and better. However the Genesis was held back because it could only display 256 colors on screen and only had 1080 colors in total to choose from. The SNES could display 720 colors on screen and had a color choice of 32.000. The extra chips inside cartridges can help with processing but they are not video display units.

@obsoleteUbiquity Absolutely not, and it really wasn't. 3D look is about as good as Virtual Hydlide, and there were already other similar titles with digitized graphics akin to that game.
