  • Hawksmoor Steak Restaurant in London is seen as the best steak restaurant experience in the UK. However that wasn't the case for us when we went to Visit Hawksmoor in Borough London as the Service we received was abysmal, not to mention all the hidden prices. The Cost of the final bill was astronomical. Here's our review of The Hawksmoor Steak Restaurant.

    Loving these London foodie vlogs with you two, that place was just ridiculous! £3.50 for 3 slices of bread, £4.50 for council pop ( tap water ), I'd have asked for the water and service charge to be removed from the bill, no way would I have paid for those.

    From a Northerner's point of view, they are taking the piss. What a rip-off having to pay extra for chips were where the mushrooms and tomato and onion rings these should be standard on a steak meal. I think you were far too generous with your scores I would have only given them 6 at the best. And to my mind, both steaks were medium rare at best.

      I am noticing this more and more with the coking time... Quite often the steak is recommended to be served rare by the restaurant but I'm not a fan of raw meat lol so I order medium but lately many restaurants have been serving me them medium-rare or even rare when I've asked for medium!

  • @ianreid
    @ianreid Před 2 lety +8

    You eat with your eyes, presentation is everything. Looks like a lump of meat slapped on the plate no garnish nothing looks poor so far. Steak looks medium rare to be honest. They saw you coming what a rip off. The problem with London your paying quality prices for poor quality foods and standards. Everything is better and cheaper in the north. The steak you had at the place in Nottingham with the Michelin started chef using their own butchers was by far better quality and better price.

    Sadly this review does nothing to dispel the preconceptions regarding eating out in central London. It's disgraceful that as we (hopefully) come out of covid restrictions, such places can blatantly charge so much and offer indifferent service. We're not here to be mugs and refill restaurant owners bank accounts. Thankfully it's not the same in other central London places. Obviously this is one to avoid. Thanks boys for the heads up on this place

    Steak places like this are expense account country. Banker boys out for a meal on the company. Big table, few beers before, trolling through the wine list to buy something pleasantly overpriced, lots of side dishes, and before and after drinks. The boys will be so drunk they won’t know what they are eating. That’s how these places make money so don’t expect your hundred and something tab to get you anything special in particular on the service side.

    Looked nice but maybe a tad underdone for medium. My ex always asked for medium but didn’t like it if the steak was too pink. I’m impressed though how they manage to cook the outside well-which gives it a nice flavour-whilst the inside can stay pink. The grill must have some heat. Finally the price-not cheap but if you compare it to spoons-you get what you pay for.

    There is no way this deserves the high scores that it was given. I've had significantly better than this for a quarter of the price, although admittedly outside of London. Compared against America this is a joke. In America you automatically would get a whole pitcher of iced tap water, and a whole bread basket totally for free, without even asking, and in most places the steak would have been twice the size, and better quality than that for a fraction of the cost.

    What happens when poor people go to a nice restaurant, they don't understand you're not just paying for the food... you're paying for the experience, location, pepper and salt grinders NOT shakers, glassware, silverware... you won't get those quality of steaks at ALDI... simple people just don't understand the significance of aged beef, the amount of loss in aging and the costs involved... that total was cheap if that was indeed London... Comparable city in the US like New York and you're looking at $100 a person... my advice? restaurants like that are lost on people like you, especially if all you going to do is whinge about it

    Mate, do me a favour and have a different steak to Fillet! It's very difficult to ruin a Fillet (apart from over cook it of course) but the steak itself is heavily reliant on a great sauce, whereas a Rib-Eye or a T-Bone etc takes more skill to get right and relies on a great flavour and is more of a indicator on whether the restaurant/chef is any good! Love your vlogs along with Darren's so keep up the great work, it's a real blast buddy! Cheers!

    I have two guidelines in my culinary life. If you order a gourmet burger then fries should be included…yep surcharge for loaded or whatever but basic fries should always be served with the burger. If you are paying top dollar for a steak then a choice of sauce should be included gratis. Both fries and sauces cost them next to nothing and to charge £4 for a handful of fries or £3 for a sauce is pure greed.

    I've had some of the best meals of my life at this very branch of Hawksmoor. Seems like you caught them on a bad day, it's usually phenomenal.

    Got to say I love your vlogs and the fact that you cover the whole gamut of eateries. Whilst the steak and chips did look good, the lack of even the basic additions of mushroom and grilled tomato, and the exorbitant cost (service charge for what, exactly?) puts me off these places. I know they have higher overheads, but WOW! So, the next time I visit London (if ever) it's a packed lunch for me😂😂😂😂

    Bleeding hell, what a price! A third of the price of that steak would have been stuck in my teeth lol. Amazed at those prices the place was rammed as well. Based on the price of that small glass of water a flush of the toilet must cost about £1000....😊...Thanks Lee and Darren great to watch. Thank god for prices down North.

    Hello Lee and Darren wow pricey and I don't live in that world to pay that money for just steak and chips and a bit of bread, food I can cook for myself like steak and grills I just buy a decent steak in Tesco like ribeye £4.00 each and its very good, I cant see where they price it at £36-£38 each and does not include anything else like veg. The fact you had to wait so long awful definitely no service charge. Still a good vlog though thanks guys.

      I hate to say it mate but tap water has to be free in this country so if you ask for still water you get bottled which they can charge for, if you ask for tap water then it is free. This isn't on Hawksmoor this is on the customer for ordering the wrong thing
