You just explained in 10 minutes what pages and pages of useless text couldn't do. Really appreciate it =)
Completely agree with your comment. This video was superb in its way of defining and explaining what coding is and how it works with qualitative data.
wow you're a lifesaver, you have
helped me understand more in 9 minutes than I have in my 3 yrs of university
Agreed.
100%
Oh wow! This is HIGH QUALITY content right there! And I only realized it was from a product/company channel at the end. Great job!
I think you've done an amazing job on the basics of coding data that doesn't at all feel basic. You gave great details, and you're not boring to listen to. For someone attending college online with no voice/face contact with a professor, you are an excellent supplement, lol. Thank you!
This is my second time doing qualitative research but my first time heading the team and this video was a lifesaver!
To encapsulate all this in a 9 minute video is amazing. I'm so happy to have found your channel. You're a life saver!
I'm using IPA for my report and I have to thank you for making it clearer.
Line-by-line coding makes sense!
Thorough, yet very well summarized, thank you! I've been struggling with qualitative research and the concept of coding came up in my lectures about Grounded Theory. Thought it was some really advanced and hard to grasp thing, but your video makes it seem to be as clear as glass.
So glad it was useful!
You are one of the iconic persons I have ever seen as a Coding expert. God bless you.
Printed out my first set of responses to my dissertation research last night. Came here to make sure I knew what I was doing!
Thank you Dr. Turner! Very helpful video. I loved the calm and easy to understand way you explained this topic. Wish you were my lecturer. On a site note: your voice is very nice to listen to. Best regards from Switzerland =)
So releiving for me as Economist to hear an easy explanation, for people that are starting in qualitative analysis. Thank you
As I’ve got huge data, I use both Quirkos & MAXQDA for initial coding and then transferred later to MS Word to finish off. Best choice. Thanks for the video
Was looking for a computer coding video to help self teach myself and now I've found this whole new sidequest in life to research more about. Also, this analysis method helped me understand the general idea of coding and languages overall, computer prpgramming being no different. Overall a trippy experience.
Thank you for explaining it briefly and clearly. I did understand this in 9 minutes than studying in high school for 2 years. You are a lifesaver!!
This is very helpful, thank you! I love how calm and simple you explain things and your voice is very nice to listen to :)
An amazing breakdown of how to code qualitative data. Nearly all of the information about how to use coding on google is just defining what it is with no examples. This video saved me from hours of work combing through results that dont help at all. Thank you so much!
This is what I wanted. Thanks for poping it up in my feed. This explanation is everything. Thrilling.
Ive struggled with coding my data for 2 weeks. And that issue was solved in less that 10 minutes. Thank you
So glad it helped!
The best class I have ever attended. Thank you so much sir..Pls do a video on how to do content analysis in excel
Don't have a video, but a blog post covers some of this here:
www.quirkos.com/blog/post/word-vs-excel-for-qualitative-analysis
First impression from only like 15 seconds in, your audio and video quality is so nice it's really well done!!
Never realized how dumb I was till I found this video. Thank you, you're such a life saver
quality made video with excellent examples, straightforward language, and great graphics. thank you very much, this helped massivly
So glad it helped!
Thank you very much, you have a very lovely manner of speaking, I could listen to it all day! :)
I skipped class that covered this topic, your a god.
This is a really great video explaining how coding works! What I liked most about this video is it promoted their app but did not deprive the audiences of the options in which they could do their own coding. Kudos to the host too! He looks like a toned-down version of Doug DeMuro. Peace!
Agreed on how great this video is. They did a great job in not only demonstrating in words how to code but how to do it visually by showing the cut outs of parts of the interview text and physically placing them in envelopes. Another org might have done an animation of that, but the fact that someone took the time to print out text, cut it up, and then also use paper envelopes showed quite a good level of detail and care.
Thank you for this video! Exactly what I need.
You sir are brilliant. You explained that for perfectly and as a man doing my dissertation right now, thats just what I needed :D
Dr. Daniel Turner just took all my pre-exam stress away with that simple explanation, thank you
Thank you! I really love your video. I am using it for my studies now and I really need to be refreshed on this topic. Your video is very easy to digest and very direct to the point. Will definitely go back to this video again and again
Excellent! Great explanation of codes and themes. Quirkos seems to be a good fit for my research. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge to the world
Thank you so much! The definitions you gave help immensely! Thank you kind man
You are welcome! So glad it helps
Simple, direct and clear. Wow!
Very simple and clear! Thank you so much!!!
I need to learn anything I can find* about content analysis for my bachelor case study. That's quite helpful and that app is really curious. All the best!
You really showed me the right path through coding thank you so much god bless you
Thank you for explaining it in the most simpler manner.
I wish my teachers taught me these things. Thanks a lot!
Thank you,,,,,,, so much very valuable video,,,, very simple explanation , there is not enough thank you in the world
Thanks for the video. Everything was very well explained and Quirkos seems like an excelent software
Literally lifesaver!
Thank you. I am new to codes and themes and I find this very helpful.
Very clear, and solve almost all of my questions, thx
Amazing breakdown and detailed explanation of coding
Yep...using line by line! My dissertation committee will notice everything!
you just saved my life
Appreciate your effort! it's very well explained! I like the way you elaborate a thing!
Best Explanation ever!
Literaly a life saver for a Highschooler like me, specially during this quarantine. :)))))
Hi Percival, what country are u from? I'm curious because I never learnt this from a high school
@@Mofokeng Pardon for the late reply, sir. And to answer your question, I am from the Philippines. I was in first year senior high (Grade 11), when I commented on this video, and I passed. Now I'm a Grade 12 student, only a half semester left before entering college XD
07:19 I also believe in this, that you don't need to do any kind of coding in order to come up with analysis. Because you can also do that by multiple reading and discussing each transcript, until you come up with your own themes and concepts 🤯.
This is wonderful! Incredibly helpful. Thank you!
Thank you very much. God bless you.
Thank you very much for this precious explanation. So helpful video
Thanks for posting this video! So easy to understand now!
Wow!!! This video is very clear and understandable... Thankyou

Two thumbs up for this video, really excellent.
Well understood, thank you so much.
I would like to have used Quirkos, but couldn't get it downloaded. But this video was very informative and I appreciate the explanation on coding.
Subscribed! Thanks a lot for the explanation.
I wish I had watched this before doing my coding. I just used highlighter pens of different colours for emerging themes 😂
It is awesome to learn this area. Thank you
Plz sir make a video about 17 techniques of bernard berelson...
this is very helpful to me! Thanks.
Hi really good video. I was wondering if I use thematic analysis can I use it to analyse a piece of content from a website or is it only used to analyse interviews and transcripts?
Yes! you can copy anything like a website, and paste it as a new source
thank you Sir it was helpful.
this is great. your voice is great too
you explained this really well, thank you :)
Impressive. Thank you
Excellent video👍
Thank you!
Thank you for you explanation very useful.
Very good!! Thanks
Well done!
This is brilliant. thank you
Super helpful! Thank you!
Thank you! much help!
thank you so much for the explanation! it is really helpful if you can share the coding materials for us for practical source.
Do you mean example projects to code? There are some here: www.quirkos.com/workshops/
amazing video i appreciate you
Great video!! Thank you
thank you for this
Brilliant!
Thank you, God bless you!
Really appreciated.. 👍
excellent video! learned alot and just downloaded a free trial of Quirkos! Thank you so much for this very good lesson on coding!!
Excellent content, but please raise the voice volume
wow thank you so much for explaining this in detail! lifesaver
usefull informatioon thanku
I like this video.
Thank you very much sir. Now I understand what a code is. However, I still don't know how to distinguish it from themes
The term can change depending on which approach you are using. However, generally a code is a simple concept, and a theme is a more complex theoretical concept, sometimes attained by combining several codes together. As a crude example, codes for 'Sweets' and 'Chips' might suggest a later theme called 'Unhealthy food'
Thank you. Very helpful.
תודה, Thank you that was so helpfull
Thanks!!
Hi, i have a question. Do we have to code data before doing data analysis ?
No - many people don't do coding at all, but it can help some people break down the data and keep track of quotes they want to use later
Thanks, thanks, thanks!! I was reading Braun and Klarke and I couldn't understand a thing! I only have 2 weeks to do the interviews and the analysis... Do you have an example of how to write and present the findings?
Not yet - but a great idea for a future video... Good luck!
Excellent video, thank you. How do I choose which form of coding to do in my project?
Good question! Will depend on your data sources, analytical approach and research question. And you might end up using more than one type of coding, and that's fine!
@@Quirkos I see, that's interesting. I come from physics where the method usually imposes itself from the contraints of the project or the school of the thought of the professor :-) My project will be semi-directive interviews + free form questionnaire answers; how should I use the differents ways of analyzing the data in Quirkos? If I understand the software correctly, we have 1) Memos 2) Quirks 3) Groups of Quirks 4) Levels. Let's say I use invivo coding and GTM higher-level categorizations. How should I use Quirkos properly then? I am open to a private conversation about that, if your time permits.
It is one of the challenges - there are so many different ways to approach it! Users may use some or all of those 4 tools based on their analytic technique. Happy to discuss more, email support@quirkos.com
@@Quirkos Thank you!
Can we have a video about the second cycle of coding? Thank you
Great idea, we will look into it,
Great Video. What is the key difference between qualitative coding and quantitative coding?
Not sure what you mean by quantitative coding in this context?
