It's been almost a decade since i've briefly checked out Second Life as a teen who could barely navigate and understand the unspoken social rules of the game cultivated by people who have been on since the inception of the game. What always stuck to me is the history and experiences people have had in game that eventually end up forgotten through time. Exploring abandoned and vacant worlds might be an interesting exploration to see what early 2000's-2010 life in Second Life used to be.
Been using since 2011, and the best moments are never forgotten, my favorite gaming moments as a gamer is from secondlife

I wish I could show you around some time lol. There are SO many places to go and visit with decent people. But I will say that I didn't really start to enjoy SL until I met friends and they showed me around and helped me with stuff.
That's kind of the big problem with SL. It's big, and the learning curve is steep. Without someone to show you around it's a lost cause. IMO it was better when there were resident-run "welcome centers".
Not sure if you're aware of the map on your toolbar at the bottom of the screen. But you can find busy places by clicking on the map, zooming out, and teleporting to the sims that have the most green dots.
Use your search filters in the places search to find sims based off of high traffic . High to low. You will definitely find more activity .

Fun fact, when I decided initially to delve into Second Life in 2010 ish, I promised myself never to get into the seedier side of things. Within 5 mins of rezzing for the first time, I found myself under a beach board walk with my tongue deep in the mouth of a stunning AV. How it happened, I still ask myself to this day.

Second Life used to be SO amazing back then. They're still A LOT of people on the grid, but back then it used to be 70,000+ online daily and maps would be filled with people. Now its a little baron

I'm close to 14 years in Second Life, and there are lots of great places you can go. Never mind that hold 10 hours of research bull Shit.. The main rule the Second Life. Don't be a Duchenne, everyone was new at some point, real life first always, and do what makes you happy (caveat that doesn't hurt anyone else)..
I spend my time with my girlfriend( long distance relationship. So it's the only way we can be together daily) and we spend a lot of our time managing a mental health support group called The Lighthouse ( for those looking or needing help with their mental health, anxiety, depression.) Or if they just need somewhere to seek advice or event.. That kind of thing..
Gore is pretty cool if you're into role-play.... Tread carefully! lol.. They take it seriously....(Most of them).. But probably not suitable for a video. Not everyone talks on voice.. A lot of chat and conversations are tech space.. Really just comes down to your preference.
Second Life is a wonderful place of great social network and virtual world. One where you can be and do just about anything.. A lot of people find it freeing because there they can be and do things they otherwise wouldn't be able to in real life.. Not everyone but not a small number of people find it just as real to them as real life is. I'm one of them lol.. I spent the better part of my entire life in Second Life. Doing one thing or another exploring myself, learning different skills. Skills that I still used to this day.
I really hope you can bring attention to Second Life bring in more people. It's a wonderful platform that's been around for so long♥

You need to search “ voice chat “ or “ voice “ because as you know , getting people to respond on voice in an area that isn’t specifically advertised as a voice using sim in second life is like pulling teeth .

This is probably the reason for the decline in popularity. Here, time stopped 15/20 years ago.
Same here, but it’s really not the same, played from 2011-2014ish and got back on right before the pandemic and started playing regularly again because of it,

I have been playing for 14 years. The new bento bodies and heads are the best. I have a Maitreya a legacy body. I wear a lalutka bom bento mesh head.
I'm not really sure what Zuck is really expecting from Meta, but this is pretty much how it would eventually end up being, just with VR.
The thing about secondlife is newbies aren’t liked, and will be fucked with, I learned that the very hard way back in 2011, also from my experience talking to randoms in voice isn’t a thing unless you know them already, usually it’s more like you start a conversation in chat first rather than just walking up on someone in voice, if you see people using voice already you enter the conversation through chat wait for them to acknowledge you then start using voice

You can bring your avatar to the ceremonial alter for branding and a haircut before being allowed into any mens clothing events for new shoes and your bom hairbase.
P.s. you still got that guys calling card who told you about the 10 page operators manual for the gam....er simulation cause I been looking for the SecondLife intsruction manual forever

do some benchmarking in the graphic heavy winter attraction sims, too few people bench their graphics cards and talk frame rate try this sim witherwood-thicket, with settings on max and tell us what graphics card you have. need to know how much better an upgrade might be in SL.
yea makeing SL acsessable is one thing they can do and are workeing on but they cannot change peopels mind on new users given that the majority of them are trolls and greifers they have a bad rap by basicly every single yser in secondlife so yea its always going to be hard to get in as a new user even if its super simple and all it will be a challange becuase of the way peopel feel about new users

This video just randomly popped up on my feed. I had joined SL in 2007 as well. I remember Dance Island as the go to hang out spot 😆 I played until 2010. Left until around 2012 but played on and off until 2017. Funny seeing how some things still look the same.

You're looking in the wrong places, you need to be going to clubs etc if you want social.
so, started talking to a chick in her mid 40s, im mid 30s, she's talked about this game as if its the absolute tits and i gotta say, after watching a fair bit of content on it, yours is the only stuff im enjoying, and it still doesnt make the game look.. 2023 good.. maybe 2006 good at best xD
Honestly? It depends on where you go. Most of the places he's gone so far are very much based around 'freebies' and people who haven't updated (nothing wrong with that) but you are seeing some avatars from the early 2000's-early 2010's in most of these videos.
SL is more about the interactions and was a good place to socialize back in the day... think 4chan/reddit/discord all mixed into one mess and that was SL 2012 to 2017 it was great.. However LL got mad and banned all the cool people and content creators so its not what it used to be. Kind of like youtube banned and purged everyone. I recommend VRC instead right now.
@@FUREXE I have been on SL since 2009 and it use to be so much fun and there was so much to do and see, now it's dead just allot of empty sims, not to mention how expensive it's become.
@@theairinallofus814 Agreed, it reminds me of dead internet theory and Chinese ghost cities now. Again I recommend VRC atm even if desktop mode last I was in there it reminded me of yee olden days of SL.
If I had to guess why new players aren’t really liked, I’d have to say maybe trollers. Vinesauce having that blue guy come in and fuck with people I think brought lots of others making accounts and doing the same

Seems like a missed opportunity avoiding mature content. You could make an AI gf in second life, run the conversation through the bot, patch the audio through... seems dangerous. Second life might be the nesting grounds for the future AI uprising

OMG i played SecondLife years ago and wow this is now SOOO outdated...I assumed the graphics would be better than what they are...it was great back in the day, not so much now.

You need a life in order to have a second life but gamers don't have a life to begin with(nor a future,nor the chance to ever lose their virginity)these are facts.
You doing so much wrong for you assume and stress, like you where in SL20B where folk sat and waited for an event to start, had you read info around there you had seen it would was a talk with some creator or group, and around there it was DJs playing with large groups of folk listening.
Then when you do a generic search in all categories on several type of listings and with all ratings enabled; that is a bit like searching "food" on google and expecting a live cooking class for make pancakes as top result and then be even more disappointed when it is a generic description what food is.
It have take yo over 18 year to understand the normal world so why do you expect to learn a virtual world within some few hours?
I go to book clubs from time to time, small event with great friends, but larger than most book clubs I seen in reality (0), I go to music clubs that have a DJ once a week, they have DJ every day but friday they have a DJ that can try mix on request, I am often in same area where my friends hand around and where some from my family can drop in to talk and have fun.
If you teleport randomly it is like doing so on Earth, the chance is great that you will land in a field, forest, lake or desert without a random group of people is there and want to talk to you, even in a city with folk walking and driving would it not be easy to just stop some and have a chat with them to be "social", and remember that many in Second Life still use text chat and DM, they may sit and not say anything in the local chat, but they can be active in group chats, HUD games, DM or maybe just chat over Discord.
Still a fun video and you have found a group of people you could talk to and find back to, so you are doing okay.
