@@seniordavidmanderson9232 That same George Foreman hit Joe Frazier, one of the greatest champions there's ever been, with an uppercut that literally picked him up off his feet. He destroyed Ken Norton in two rounds. A prime Mike Tyson's fighting weight would also be around 217-218 but I don't see many people bragging about how they'd toy with him. I completely understand why you'd dislike Ali but belittling every single thing he did isn't the right way to go. Go after him politically and you'd be right in taking your own stand. But separate the dislike that clouds the objectivity when you're talking about his fights. Right wing, left wing, centre, it doesn't matter what side you're on when you're in the ring. The other guy hits you the same as you probably know from your fighting days.
Fighters are products of their times. They used to be smaller and lighter the further back you go. I don't see you complaining about Joe Louis or Rocky Marciano for the opposition they faced or how they're not true champions. They themselves and their opponents were much smaller than Ali and most of his opponents. Jack Johnson was about 6'1 and a giant in his time. With better nutrition and training knowledge, fighters have been getting bigger with every era. So, a Jack Johnson or a Muhammad Ali would've bigger had they been in this era.
Cus D'Amato used to say the only time you touched Ali before his exile was when the refree made you touch gloves. This was a supremely gifted athlete we're talking about. He toyed with Sonny Liston who everyone thought would destroy him in one or two rounds. He's fought much bigger punchers like Sonny Liston, Cleveland Williams, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Earnie Shavers, Ron Lyle and beat every single one of them. I'd like to remind you that same George Foreman came back way past his prime and went the distance with Evander Holyfield, an all time great, and the likes of Lewis and Tyson didn't wanna have anything to do with him. To this day, he's still the oldest heavyweight champion in history. That shows you the kinda fighter George Foreman was since you belittled him so much. Thank God they didn't walk into him at his prime cuz that'd be murder. But Ali did. He took his best shots and endured punishment until George gassed out and then knocked him out. You'd have to have balls of steel to let George Foreman hit you in the body all night long. How about Tyson Fury's knockout of Deontay Wilder? The much bigger puncher got his bell rang there too. Fury, very much an Ali kinda fighter, also destroyed Wladimir Klitschko whom you've mentioned a couple of times. These are reminders that a smart fighter will beat a stronger one most of the time. Which is what Tyson Fury still does. And what Muhammad Ali did back in his day.
At the peak of his abilities this man gave up the greatest title in the world and didn't once waiver even when he was flat broke and his very survival seemed uncertain. That takes a lot of courage. Now everyone agrees that was an unjust war and American lives shouldn't have been sacrificed there in the first place. So was his stand really so wrong after all? He came back from his layoff almost 4 years later, trained for a few weeks and toyed with the number one contender in the world, Jerry Quarry. How many sportsman do you know who can do that in their sport?
Floyd Mayweather, a flawless technical fighter, one of the greatest ever, also doesn't have an impressive knockout ratio. Does it make him any less great? Great champions find a way to win. That's what makes them great in the first place.
And Earnie Shavers? There's a reason his fights didn't go the distance. That man would walk into any era and still be a knockout machine. He hit harder than Wilder does. People who fought him have claimed their feet hurt from being punched in the face by Shavers. How insane is that? A victory over an animal like that way past his prime is just proof of Ali's courage and his solid chin. It wasn't a controversial fight. Ali won decisively.
And I don't buy the Norton 3 arguments either. The commentary caused all the controversy in that fight more than anything. There are round where Norton literally threw one or two punches and the commentator emphatically says that round is his. Norton actually fought much better in their second fight. Jimmy Young fight was close and could've gone either way like it did. Ali's speech had started to slow by this time. It was time to go by then. He shouldn't have returned to fight Holmes and Berbick cuz signs of Parkinson's were clear by then. But again he did what he'd always done- being the man he wanted to be and not what you wanted him to be.

@@seniordavidmanderson9232 what are you smoking sir? I gave you the reason why fighters have been progressively getting bigger with every era. You skipped over it cuz it defeats your whole argument. And even now a heavyweight is a fighter who's over 200 pounds. When Ali beat Liston he was 210.5. Ali's prime is this period of 1963-67. I don't know what prime you're talking about. When Frazier fought Ali he was around 205. Cruiserweight? shitting over a great champion like Joe Frazier just proves there's no point debating you sir. I do know how good Klitschko was. I also know he lost to an out of shape Tyson Fury who was coming back from a long layoff. A prime Fury would've buried him. You need to check your facts and stop crapping all over fighters of the Ali-Frazier-Foreman-Norton era. One of them came back to win the championship at 45 so your saying that was a weak era is simply ridiculous.

@@seniordavidmanderson9232 I respect that opinion. People always have different opinions on who the greatest one is. You can have anyone as your top dog. Mine is Sugar Ray Robinson pound for pound. Lennox Lewis was a great fighter who never got due credit in his time. Had they fought exactly the way they fought in their eras, Ali really doesn't have a good chance of beating a bigger Lennox Lewis with better reach.
My point was always that fighters have changed with eras thanks to the knowledge on diet and training improving so much. So in my view it's quite unfair to compare Ali or Joe Louis or Rocky Marciano or Jack Dempsey or Jack Johnson to fighters from a much later era. These fighters were limited only by their eras. They were the very best of their times. That's all you can be really. Lewis, pre Doughlas Tyson and Holyfield are my favourites from their era.

Joe Frazier was a quiet man. I remember my mother calling him a "lunchpail fighter." This meant he was a steady reliable hard worker. When you don't have the flash, style, and quit wit you don't get the recognition. God bless Ali and Frazier. May they be in heaven where all gloves are laid to rest.

James Taylor they were both black what could have ali said that would have been racist.lol.ali was pompous and for good reason, he trumped both foreman and joe eventually. He was so confident in his talent, he rilled his opponents up soo much that when they join him in the ring they would want to kill him dead.

    • @eustace8520
      @eustace8520 Před 5 lety +1

@@osumkid2748 Just because Ali is black, or anyone in general, does not mean that they cannot be racist. Anyone can be a racist, no matter what color they are. Ali did say racist things about whites. I learned this from watching a documentary that starred his managers.
The reason Ali said racist things is understandable. Ali grew up in the 40s/50s when segregation and racism was still common amungst color folks. He was exposed to both of these things and his hatred for whites grew. He didn't completely hate white though, as he was always a guest in a white man's show. Ali also said racist things after he joined a Muslim cult.
Now today's times are different than 60 years ago. Racists still exist but there is no need to shame white people anymore. Sadly, anti-white people exist.

This man deserved better than to have merely been considered the villain against the more beloved fighter.
A gentleman and a sportsman who gave his game everything he had. A good family man as far as I understand (unlike a certain someone else)
I remember how Joe Frazier was vilified as to the first fight with Ali. As far as I am concerned the only fighter to beat Ali when Ali was in his prime and fully prepared (before Ali's beginning physical decline)
In a way Ali is the reason we remember Joe Frazier.
