I also have this same radio, I will have to check mine too! They are a fine radio for portable use, or anyone on a budget.

You can change the deviation by changing the band to wide in the channel menu. That changes it from 2.5 to 5.0 and will improve the audio slightly.

I did this mod after receiving a muffled audio report. As of 4/24 Retevus has not fixed this. I drilled mine to 1/8 inch. Might be a bit large? I used alcohol wipe to remove remaining paint to clean up the "MIC".
    Thanks for the video!!!

I think you've just helped me understand why my Baojie BJ 218 has a good signal but a low voice
    I'm going to do this..
(Everything to win, nothing to loose)

Nice video, although I wish it was a before/after audio test using the same mic so a viewer could experience the change.

Yes I did record it on the sdr but it wasn't as noticeable at close range, over distance over the signal to the repeater 20 or so miles the low deviation was really noticeable.

Thanks for that tip. Also the mention of narrow/wide setting in the comments. I will check alignment on mine. I did not look at mic alignment or notice anything wrong when I had mine apart. I am trying to tone down the brightness of the AB button/switch LED and the A & B selected LED indicators. They are way too bright for night ops for me. They are not part of the adjustable keypad ltg. Have tried two layers of flashbreaker tape over the LED's but still not what I want. I may have to change them LED's out or a fine dab of trial and error paint. Was wanting to know if someone had already done this intensity change.

By the way. I have just bought a Retevis RT95 and the members of our local radio club say it sounds perfect.
Having worked in manufacturing, i think this problem could well be an "assembly problem". The mike and the foam can probably be slightly moved, one way or another...
It's crédit to you that you saw the mike hole inprint on the foam
I'll take a look at mine

Thanks for an informative vid mate! Out of interest what's the radio like front end wise on VHF? I have a Feidaxin VV898 low power dual band mobile and it is pants on VHF due to being swamped by pagers.

I've not personally had any issues like that on my radio, I think there are a number of clones of this radio, copies of you like because people have mentioned issues I've not had at all 🤔

    AT-778UV mic gain
    Hello 6:03
Like some others, working with the same set, i also get reports of low audio levels.
I know there is no Mic Gain option, but does anyone know if AnyTone will (or has) update(d) the firmware ??
I saw that Retevis have released new firmware for their RT-95 which INCLUDES a Mic Gain as a menu option.
Is anyone here knowledgable enough to know if the Retevis firmware can be used for AnyTone? Looking forward to replies ... 73

Am I right in saying that 70cms repeaters and simplex frequencies should be set to wide and 2m repeaters and simplex frequencies set to narrow pls as I have the same radio

    • @knoxieman
      @knoxieman  Před 3 lety +1

It does depend on the radio because wide on 1 is narrow on another, especially the Chinese definition of wide, best thing is to try both and see what works best with the repeater, I find some work better wide and others don't.

    • @davidhughes1275

@@knoxieman cheers bud I've worked it out 2m including repeaters is narrow and 70cms repeaters are wide and simplex narrow

    Hi,
I have a question in the anytone at-778uv. There is no audio during transmission. Just dead key carrier. Basically running transmitting (dead key only) and receiving perfect. I tried it on different channels lower and upper and same thing. Is there a mic gain or a mic mute for this radio? I read the whole manual and there is nothing was mentioned. Any takes and thank you.

A bit late to the party, most hand mics have a weight inside. This makes it feel better in the hand, a weightless mic just doesn't feel right..Any mics I get that doesn't have this I add a weight my self..If you still the radio try removing the weight by unscrewing the screw that's holding it in and then you will see it's far far better with it in.

Drilling it or even changing the insert will make no difference, just look at other microphones and some mobile phones. Look at the Anytone 588 microphone. Not interested in your comment if you think I am wrong, I really don't really care.

It makes an enormous diff... You sound very bitter, perhaps becuase you've tried and stuffed it up? haha Seems to work for everyone else. A mic hole that is "plugged" with rubber is going to sound crap.
