Now this is a review, man. People who actually rode the bike full time, know everything about it. The spare key info was very important to me, and I appreciate that tip. Thanks a lot, man!
@@JT2JZ that's true, I've never heard anyone say it but that's exactly what it feels like, I like your video and nice collection dude, that's quite a line up.
I just got a 2004 R1 yesterday. Picked her up & rode her back home, 2 hour ride and loved it so much. First time riding a 1000cc bike. I’ve owned 250cc & 2x 600cc. I’ll never go back. 1000cc all the way baby!! Great video brother, greetings from Australia. Ride safe.
Hope sh'e's serving you well. Took me down memory lane... first bike we ever bought was a 04 R1 from a cop in Miami. This was back in 2009. I would buy that bike again. Crazy how fast time went by.
Ya it doesn’t take much to change the power to weight ratio on such a small bike. You probably wouldn’t notice as much on a heavier cruiser style bike or Harley with more low end torque.
Great job explaining these bikes in a real world comparison. It's awesome to hear that from people who actually spend time riding the bikes. Ride safe!!
Hey Matt, I suggest the r7 as a step to either. Sounds weird going for a 700cc over a 600cc but it's a much more relaxed ride however if you are experienced and capable enough then the r6 is an amazing and fun ride. Ride safe bud
This has been such an important video for me. I have been riding a 250cc for almost 2 years now and am ready to upgrade. These are two of my favorite options so this is a useful comparison. Thanks for the video.
I'm siding with Bruce on this one. Snag up a 600. The jump you will have from a 600 to a 1000 is about the same as a 250 to 600. My R6 was awesome, but it does get a little old because it was to easy to ride. Meaning, it was no work to go fast and hold corners. Youll have way more power in the road than you'll need. You'll hang with any sports car out there.
I agree as well. If you were happy riding the 250 for two years a 600 will be a lot of bike from what you are used to! Better to error on the safe side my friend.
I have to show appreciation for mentioning your thoughts on people who are experienced riding dirt bikes, moving onto a liter bike. This is one of the only videos I've watched that discusses that perspective, and it helps me personally as well.
Honestly I think dirt biking is some of the best rider experience to have. Always riding on different loose surfaces and navigating over obstacles you really learn how a bike handles a lot quicker than on the street!
@JT2JZ looking forward to that one as well! I currently have a gen 1 hayabusa and an 09 R1. Going to be doing a comparison on my channel of those as well :). You are right about the Crossplane R1 though, it does have a goofy low end response compared to other sportbikes. I was just watching your cross plane vs flat plane vid a few mins ago.
Thanks for the kind words. I’m waiting to see if I can register my CZcams account after I get 1000 subscriptions. Get your friends to subscribe. It will give me more motivation to keep making content. I do have a lot of video ideas for the future!
What kit did you get to lower your R1? I should look into that for my GF and her R6. She is only 5’4. More videos on the way! Thanks for the support man.
I wish I saw this sooner. Owned a 6 for years and thinking of upgrading. Slated to buy a 1 used in ~2 weeks. This was very helpful, thank you!! Mind if I PM you next week with any last minute questions I may have?
@@JT2JZ So I didn't realize YT didn't offer any sort of DM functionality...figured it would. Is there another platform we can leverage to toss ideas around?
I have an 02 R1 with a D&D slip on exhaust, power Comander, slipper clutch, lowering kit, I bought it 2nd hand so I don't remember all the specific upgrades but it is insanely fast. My buddy has an 03 R6 same type of upgrades we've swapped bikes on rides and in city riding the R6 is better to ride because the R1 just wants to go. In first gear with no throttle the R1 idles at about 25mph the R6 dosen't really have any power till you get past 4000rpms. On the highway the R1 is king it has insane tourqe and speed at low RPMS you don't have to hammer on the R1 the power is there through out the rpm range. Handling I haven't noticed that big of a difference in handling maybe because my suspension isn't stock. The only problem I had with my R1 is cross winds on the highway I was getting blown all over the road, but the rear tire was at 25psi I put at 35psi no more floating in the crosswinds. My only complaint with both the R6 and R1 is they are not comfortable on long rides. My Ninja 500r way more comfortable on long rides and my ZX6R (636) is extremely comfortable and I think it's faster then the R6. The R1 has low beams on both sides and highbeams on both sides. As far as ignition replacement you can get an ignition, Gas tank lock and seat lock on Ebay for under $60 for the R6 or the R1. My R1 came with a plain steel key. I bought a 3pack of blank yamaha keys red, blue, and black on Amazon for like $20 and had HomeDepot cut me a spare.
This was really helpful. After seeing this is think im gonna try for something like gsxr750, a nice middle road. My biggest problem rn though is that as you said, litre bikes are somehow cheaper.
The market pricing is odd for sure. I think the 600s are just more popular for most people and that drives used prices up. A gsxr750 is a solid option for sure. I’ve rode them before and they are pretty much exactly what you would expect. You can usually find them relatively cheap as well so win / win.
Hi Jt2jz, u made such a simple n informative video, I think u should create a separate channel for Motorbike content. Such on point info, which is hard to find. loved it. U will have great success.......... If u keep it up.
Thanks for the kind words and support. When summer comes I will definitely be making more bike / riding videos. Maybe some stunting / tips and tricks along the way. I’m relatively new to CZcams still but learning as I go. More bike content is a guarantee though. These videos are getting the most viewers.
Great review I liked it. The only thing I dident like was comparing looks and such, I get comparing mechanical things and such to and extent. But if I was to compare and 1990’s bike to a newer 2020+ version… then… yea you get the point. I know their only 3 years apart BUT they did change the looks in between z just sayn!! Still really enjoyed the video thanks!!!
Thanks bro. I’m about to drop a new video soon comparing my old 2006 R1 to my new 2012 crossplane engine R1. Maybe it can give you even more insight with the different R1 generations. Cheers.
@@JT2JZ the big bang 09 is my dream bike, looks so nice. But i want to start with the 05 as i dont want to spend too much on a bike. But yes bro, I'll be looking forward to see that comparisson.
I will say for a first bike the older flate plane engines seem to be a little more reliable. I’ve never had to work on any of my older bikes as much as I have already with my new crossplane. I love my new bike still but current it’s a love hate relationship 😆
@@JT2JZ yes I deed, I got over 2500 bucks on aftermarket accessories, the bike likes the attention it gets. Next is going to be a 300 Fat tire Kit with Hellian Chrome wheels 👌
I have the same generation R1 04/06 and a 16 R6 and with proper setup this gen R1 can turn in like no other to the point my R1 out turns my R6 but I have yet to set up the R6 and am fairly certain this will change. That said a well set up R1 with Bridgestones latest DOT race rubber is unbelievable!!!! Something about the Bridgestone front it turns in like no other.
Question. I currently ride a Honda crf450r and I’m planning on switching to a street. I’m currently looking at the r6 but I’m wondering If I’ll get bored quick since it’s just a couple cc up from a 450. Should I just go with an r1?
Dirt bikes and street bikes are a lot different. Your 450 has a ton of torque and relatively short gears. Both the r6 and the R1 have really long gears and make most of there power up top. I think you could handle either bike relatively easy if you are comfortable on a 450 but it would come down to what’s more important for you. If it’s power obviously get the R1. If you want a better handling bike get the r6. I personally prefer the power but I still enjoy every time I get on a 600cc rocket. I don’t think I would ever get bored with either of these bikes. You just end up riding them slightly different that’s all.

Agreed man. My first bike was a litre bike ( 2004 cbr1000rr ). For my own personal bike I would never own anything smaller. I’m a power junky at the end of the day 🤘. Glad to hear other companies are starting to clone keys. Now If only the dealerships would get on board!
hey, I’m looking at a 2016 r6 w/ a power commander and other stuff for $7k, it has 15k miles and hasn’t been rode in 3 months..would this be a good buy or do you think it has issues? Thanks!
It’s always hard to say without seeing a bike in person but that sounds like a reasonable deal. I’ve owned many r6 bikes and have never had any major issues with any of them. Just have a close look at wearable parts like tires, brake pads, fork seals, battery. Other than those items you shouldn’t have any issues. They are pretty solid bikes!
The power commanders are a pretty easy plug and play system for the most part. It would be pretty hard to mess up that install. I believe there is only one wire that’s a throttle input that’s not plug and play I think it would either work or not work so you should be good to go there. I’ve never had any issues with the old power commander 3 or the new 5 series.
When you were talking about the r6 you said "almost perfect sound" I'm looking super intensly for the perfect deep sound with the just perfect tune, any recommendations?
For a good sounding r6 the mid pipe / cat delete is a must. I did the M4 mid pipe but other brands would be very similar. As far as the rear slip ons go they all have slightly different exhaust notes. My favourite sounding slip ons would be the M4, yoshimura, or two brothers. A bigger front header pipe to give your bike a true full exhaust would give the deepest sound possible. Only down side is headers are pretty expensive!
@@JT2JZ Superbike racer has a full akroprvic exhaust on his colorful r6 and honestly it sounds so amazing like when he let's go of the throttle and then gives it gas you have the rumble and gives me such satisfaction but it's not deep like one if the comments even said it sounds like a house fly, I'm on a hunt to find "the motorcycle sound" the same sound I remember as a kid, the same sound I hear when bikes are flying by a few blocks away from me, I'm still looking but you definitely helped, thankyou. I also don't know why i never thought to cat delete my bike it never even came to me but would forsure make it sound better
Akrapovic is a great brand as well. Honestly most of todays modern exhaust systems perform great. It just comes down to personal preference with small sound differences. In your case if you already have a slip on I would say start with the mid pipe and you might be surprised at how big of a difference just that will make. My only other advice would be don’t use a straight pipe style rear slip on. They sound really raspy and you end up loosing power. As long as you have some kind of small slip on muffler you should be good to go after the mid pipe install 🤘
Thanks you. That means a lot. I am familiar with his videos because he is very popular! He is better at video editing than me but I would like to think I have a lot of real world experience.
Hello, I’m a new rider, my dad recently passed away and he left his r1 but I’ve never rode a motorcycle before and I’m pretty scared to even touch the bike, is there any tips you could give to me as a new rider or advice when learning
Sorry to hear about the bad news. As long as you have respect for the bike and start off slow to get the feel for the bike you should be ok. My first bike was a 2004 cbr1000rr. It took me almost a full season of just casually riding before I was 100% comfortable on it. If you ride with other people make sure they don’t push you out of your comfort zone. Some people can push you past your skill level and that’s when an accident will usually happen for a new rider. At the end of the day make sure you enjoy the ride and have fun 🤘
Hey I got a questioon for yah! So I’m a 5’7 male and was wondering if I would be able to flat foot either of these bikes? Or if I would even be able to touch the ground lol. Sorry if this is a dumb question
@@JT2JZ hell if you have to tip toe the dirt bike ima have to hop off and and stand next to it 😂 might as well have a picnic with it while I’m holdin it
If I could get your opinion on this I’m looking at a 2007 R6 5k miles for $6.5k and a 2008 r1 10k miles for $7k I had a 600 for a year it was a Gsxr so totally different which one should I go fo
Those are both good bikes with low kms that would literally last forever. I think it would come down to if you want a bike that is better for straight line acceleration ( R1 ) or a bike that’s a little shorter with better handling and feels more playful ( R6 )
In my opinion the 600cc may feel underpowered for you. As long as you have some bike experience I would recommend stepping up to maybe a gsxr750 or R1.
@@JT2JZ I completely understand, and I know you’re right. Against any better judgment though, I think I’m still going to get an R6, give it a try and feel the power it has. Hoping it isn’t as bad as I think, lol. If so, it’ll go out to someone else. Thank you for taking time to reply to my question, subscribed!
Thanks for the support. I’m sure you will still have a great time riding an R6. On the plus side the R6 is the most popular size and has the best resale value so it should be easy to resell if it comes to that.
I'll be starting the riding courses soon ; I'm planning to buy a ninja 300 or the R3 for 1 - 2 years ; But that R6 is on my list for the near future after that
That’s what I did too! Went with the R3 and absolutely loved it for 2.5 years, just got an R6 and it’s hard going back to the little R3. But the R3 was a great leaner bike that you can push to its limit and if you make a mistake it’ll be pretty forgiving (R6 is not so forgiving)
Is that r6 a crossplane engine? I know that r1 isn't. How's the difference between the 2 engines. I know there different sizes but how's the power band on the r6?
Yamaha never made a Crossplane engine for the R6 just the R1. The R6 still has great power! You just have to rev it a lot higher. Power comes on hard around 10,000rpm and pulls strong all the way to 16500rpm. Very fun playful bike. Handles better than my R1
I do enjoy my R1 more just for the raw power and more usable low end torque for daily driving it. If you are a confident rider I would say go for the r1. If you don’t have a lot of bike experience the r6 is a very good balance of power and handling characteristics to learn with
@@JT2JZ I just bought the r1 as my first bike, I don't regret that decision after riding it the past 2 days. And I am 5'3 and the height is not that concerning. I'm pretty much on the ball of my feet. I think ima end up lowering the suspension to fit my weight once I save a bit of money. I think that should help me comfortably flat foot it. Thanks for your reply 😊
I’m in current negotiations with a guy that is selling his Yamaha R6 2008 with 15,000 miles on it for $5500. The bike has been taken care of from what I can see and it still has the original fairings and mechanics. Only things modified are the exhaust, HID lights, levers, etc. Anyways my question is, would that be a good buy for year 2021 or is that a bad choice? I do think the price is too steep and I offered $4500 cash in the spot for it (which he is thinking about). What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance for the reply.
Where I live the market for the R6 seems to be inflated because they are a very popular bike. For me here in Canada it would be hard to find an R6 in decent shape for less than $5500. I’m not sure what your market is like but I would think if you can pick that bike up for $5000 it would be a pretty reasonable price.
My 2009 R6 has 25000kms. So very similar in mileage. I would say that’s average for the year. If it’s a bike you plan to keep for a while I wouldn’t be to worried about it but I do notice the resale value of these bikes starts to drop a decent amount after 30,000kms - 35,000kms. At 15000 miles I would look at your basic wear and tear items like tires, brakes, chain and sprocket, fork seals. Other than those items I’ve never seen any other issues with these bikes. They are very reliable.
@@JT2JZ cool. I’ll definitely check those basic wear and tears. Replacing forks is pricey as shit. Don’t want to have to do that. If I end up buying the bike I was going to do the usual tune up, new fluids, new spark plugs, probably will end up buying a new gold chain to match the black and gold color scheme of the bike, some new brake pads and possibly new tires. Hopefully that’s all in need to do. Even better I hope I don’t have to do anything at all to it lol. Anyways thank you. I will come back for any advice or help if I need any. God bless!
Ya fork seals are definitely the main most expensive things to look at. Leaking fork seals and an unevenly worn front tire can be signs of a bike that has been stunted / wheelies. Good luck with the purchase! Cheers.
I started on an R6 and rode it almost everyday for about a year. I was definitely ready to upgrade to an R1 about a month into owning the R6 but I had to sell it due to a move, definitely a great starter bike for sure tho
Bro I just come across your video like right now for the first time and I will tell you right now if you were to ask me that face-to-face especially with the two that I'm looking at right now do you have floored me right now just what the two you got on my God so sick bro so sick
Okay now that we got the introduction out of the way brother off I'll give you my opinion honestly right now after hopefully next year I'll buy my house I'm actually looking into getting the R6 Raven I don't know something about that black and gold Manatee it really just it attracts me and please please please understand I'm not taking away from that are one but just something about that black and gold Raven the first time I ever seen it and just the colors just distracting me you know but also do like that R1 Raven that's completely blacked out as well so but honestly yeah I think I'm going to go R6 myself cuz I know the other ones bigger Blake you know performance blah blah blah blah blah but still for me yeah I think I would go R6 but in your case brother I just I'm sorry I couldn't I couldn't decide one way or the other
Damn that key information was very depressing, I didn’t know how bad my situation was , worst part is this one black key I got came from the dealership, was sold the bike never even knowing about a “red” key , I thought “one key is fine I can always get a copy made” 🤦♂️
Yes it’s extremely inconvenient and expensive. Ive heard rumour that you may get lucky these days and find an aftermarket company to clone the black key. It’s worth looking into anyway!
600 is great if you get it new. second hand you are buying a bike that has been thrashed by some other hoon and maybe asking for trouble. I love both bikes and that is why I have an FZ1 gen 2. No bow leggedness on the fizzy. Nothing but comfort and wanting to ride all day long.
Yes unfortunately most crotch rockets are cheap enough that younger guys buy and use them for racing / stunting. As the years go by it does get harder to find used bikes in good shape. I love the FZ1 for how practical and comfortable they are! I am a little disappointed with the power output though. They detune the fz1 so much that my r6 is very similar power wise. If they had the same engine tune from a traditional R1 it would be the perfect bike!
I also heard that Yamaha is discontinuing the r6. They are not updating it to keep up with stricter emission regulations. They are only going to be selling it as a track use ( non street legal ) version now. I was pretty disappointed when I heard this!
I came here in ny bought a 2020 mt09 bnew after 1 yr and 3 mnths it got stolen on june 1st 2022. So now im browsing and made a deal of a 2004 r1 cherry with a very good deal.
As long as you can respect the bike I think you could. I know lots of people that start off on smaller bikes and out grow them within a mater of months. It can get expensive buying multiple bikes in a short amount of time. Buying a smaller bike is good if you have zero experience. Basically for learning the controls of the bike ( clutching, braking, cornering, the basics ). The R6 is probably one of the most popular sizes.
The R6 is still a handful for sure. I always have to tell myself not to do something stupid riding my gfs R6. They are so playful and the inner kid in me is always trying to get out!
I love my rsexxy 06 blue and 09 raven black compare to my murdered out 07 r1... I sold my 07 r1 dont really like the looks but kept my 06 and 09 rsexxy...its called rsexxy for a reason... now they are discontinued and I had it sent to the Philippines...I will always keep my r6 I might just get the 2021 for that matter. Good comparison.. Ride safe bro.
R6 was discontinued in 2020, unless you want to pay $18-20k for the beefed up track only version. I’m sure the wait list is crazy long on those, as they are built to order. Definitely hang on to your R6, they’re only going to be more expensive as time goes on.
@@JT2JZ Yep me too im a sexxy fan... do not know why they stop the sexxy... but the r7 sucks i tried my friends but a little to tame for me at the track..
@@JT2JZ that’s fair I’m definitely more of a relaxed rider I do push my bike from time to time but I’m someone who just respects the bike. But I am also kind of nervous for the jump
Honestly I’m a casual rider most days as well. My favourite part about the R1 is you don’t have to down shift and rev it really high if you hit a yellow light or want to pass someone. Doesn’t really matter what gear your in just roll into the throttle and it has the low end grunt. I use mine as a daily driver and I love it. As long as you respect the bike ( and it sounds like you would ) you will be just fine.
That’s a good question. I’ve never had a bike newer that 2009 but I thought they would all have a similar security system if they are still making the red master keys. If the security light is the only thing you are looking for keep in mind if the bike is sitting for a day or two the light does turn off to save battery power.
@@JT2JZ yeah there isn't even a light at all I would like a security light I feel like they stopped doing it because of the problem the guy in the video was talking about its just dumb how the older models have security and mine doesn't 😑
I agree that is pretty strange. To be honest though the security systems are pretty much useless anyway. I have had multiple bikes stolen even with the security systems. It seems like they only cause issues and hassle for the owner and don’t actually do anything when someone steals the bike. The security doesn’t have an alarm or anything it only makes it so the thief can’t get it running. So at the end of the day you will still be without a bike if someone wants to steal it regardless of a security system or not.
Both bikes are amazing and definitely have unique characteristics to offer. I always enjoy the ride no matter what bike I’m on. The older I get the more bikes I want because I appreciate them all! It’s very inconvenient some days 😆
Much more power in the R1, the R6 screams more and you have to use the gears more, gets tiring after a while and you have to have more rpms to get the power. I have 2 R1s and 2 Honda Vfr 750/800 and prefer the riding style of the VFRs and better for cruising, but the power in the R1s are great.
The R1 is literally a street legal MotoGP bike when you get them unrestricted. The R6 is the chilled out little brother that gets fist bumped by its older brothers friends lol
Probably not a good idea unless you have a huge amount of respect for the bike and perfect self control. The temptation to outride your skill level is always there even for me!
Great video but... in a close track R6 makes better lap times due to short wheelbase and those 110hp only. This is what my friends say. But on the road... 110hp are not enough!!! R1's 180hp are way more fun and you can use only 110 if you like. So, would you buy an 110hp better for track or an 180hp 1:1 power to weigh ratio R1?? And yes, if you are not an expert rider just keep it calm with those 180hp. Don't use them all. Use only half... R1 will definitely keep your adrenaline in the red zone always!! R6... just for the first month when you learn it...
I’ve always been a horse power junky so for me the R1 is the obvious choice. I will admit the R6 does handle better but on the street I find myself using the raw power more than I would use the handling characteristics.
@@JT2JZ since last year I thought my Evo and my XKR and my Vette were fast. Nope... They are not fast enough now cz of my R1. Could be any litre bike... And yes.... I'm on Time Attack races with cars but on bike I'm really scared and hats off to all those fast bikers I watch...
That’s a good thing, I would say go for it! With r6 bikes being discontinued now I don’t think they will ever get much cheaper than that if it’s in good condition.
As long as you can respect the bike and take things slow until you get comfortable you will be ok. Not all people have the will power to take things slow. If you have any previous experience with riding dirt bikes that definitely helps!
Get something really cheap that's not at all what you're interested in right and learn, really learn because then you're not going to care if you lay it over or something like that you will have way more confidence learning because you'll be focusing on learning not preserving fairings and $$ if you a sport bike over, the repair bill will be about the price of a cheap.. be smart go to a nice empty car park practice turns etc if you have a riding mate go halves in a bike together then both save for a 600 together (then you will have real respect too), use the crap bike to past your riding test etc help each other out you etc, us bikers are all over the world so welcome to the family 😊 but you know this is just one idea/opinion.
Definitely good advice as well. A cheap dirt bike is also good to learn on. It takes a lot of crashes to beat up a dirt bike. Always being on uneven terrain and different surfaces teaches you how a bike handle in poor condition that are constantly changing. Hope back on a street bike and it seems way easier ring on pavement and not dirt / gravel etc. Then if you ever do have a situation where you loose traction on a street bike it won’t take you by surprise and you can usually ride it out with confidence.
The looks alone keep me on the R6... Sickest bike out there for sure!
I would have to agree. Something about the front headlight design is just timeless. I could stare at it for hours!

You'll hang with any sports car out there.
I agree as well. If you were happy riding the 250 for two years a 600 will be a lot of bike from what you are used to! Better to error on the safe side my friend.
It is more fun to ride a small bike fast, than a big bike slow.
One of the best Bike comparison videos I've ever seen well done, awesome wheelies 😂
Excellent comparison and review! Subscribed good sir!
Thanks for the support! More video’s coming soon. Currently working on comparing my Crossplane R1 to my aprilia RSV4
The R6 might feel lighter because of the shorter wheel base and your not leaning over it.as much as the R1, but still the R1 is pound for pound king
Thanks! My favourite bike from 600cc and 1000cc. R6 is very beautiful, cool in driving, but r1 is monster.
Agreed!
R 6 toop desainnn, from indonesia
R1 Has ALWAYS been king! R6s are great but R1 is something else!! Legends
Can’t beat that raw power!
r6 sounds way cooler, and in a circuit the r6 wins anyday
R6 is shorter and does handle better in the corners
You're a legend, dude.

Doesn’t lowering kit put out bikes handling just curious

This was really helpful. After seeing this is think im gonna try for something like gsxr750, a nice middle road. My biggest problem rn though is that as you said, litre bikes are somehow cheaper.
The market pricing is odd for sure. I think the 600s are just more popular for most people and that drives used prices up.
A gsxr750 is a solid option for sure. I’ve rode them before and they are pretty much exactly what you would expect. You can usually find them relatively cheap as well so win / win.
gotta appreciate the colour scheme on that r6 fr!
Ya the black and gold is definitely one of my favourite! I’m trying to find a cross plane R1 In that colour for next season.

Awesome video my friend. I'm currently looking to buy an R1. Blessings from UK

@@JT2JZ yes I deed, I got over 2500 bucks on aftermarket accessories, the bike likes the attention it gets. Next is going to be a 300 Fat tire Kit with Hellian Chrome wheels 👌
That will definitely be unique and stand out from the crowd 🤘
I have the same generation R1 04/06 and a 16 R6 and with proper setup this gen R1 can turn in like no other to the point my R1 out turns my R6 but I have yet to set up the R6 and am fairly certain this will change. That said a well set up R1 with Bridgestones latest DOT race rubber is unbelievable!!!! Something about the Bridgestone front it turns in like no other.
Ya for how old these bikes are now it’s pretty crazy how well they perform still! Very well built bikes for the price.
@@JT2JZ so true and my 2016 R6 is the same bike as this 09. It’s been a great run for the R6.
I meant to say it’s the same bike as your 09 R6.
Ya they found a platform that simply works and they stuck with it for a long time!

Glad to hear other companies are starting to clone keys. Now If only the dealerships would get on board!
Can you expand on that? i only have 1 black key left!
hey, I’m looking at a 2016 r6 w/ a power commander and other stuff for $7k, it has 15k miles and hasn’t been rode in 3 months..would this be a good buy or do you think it has issues?
@@JT2JZ would there be a problem if the power commander was improperly done? And thanks for the fast response I really appreciate it.
The power commanders are a pretty easy plug and play system for the most part. It would be pretty hard to mess up that install. I believe there is only one wire that’s a throttle input that’s not plug and play
I think it would either work or not work so you should be good to go there. I’ve never had any issues with the old power commander 3 or the new 5 series.
Im 5'7 could i reach on the r6 u think ? Or feels weird to say , should be the other way around, i must go for the bigger boy ?
You would be ok on either bike. My girlfriend is 5’4 and she can tip toe on the r6. She still rides it just fine

Jt2jz great damn advice homie
@D Moo-lah Thanks man! Just trying to help out another fellow biker.
@Boosted SC Aye bro are you still alive?
20:25 the bang from the supra.. damn. imagine having those bangs on the bike 😂
The supra launch control is absolutely rowdy in person! Not many vehicles in this world that are louder to be honest.
Hey I got a questioon for yah!
So I’m a 5’7 male and was wondering if I would be able to flat foot either of these bikes? Or if I would even be able to touch the ground lol. Sorry if this is a dumb question
I’m 5’10 and can flat foot on the R1. You would probably be pretty close as well on the R1.
You would be on your tip toes for sure on the r6.
@@JT2JZ damn.. I hate to be that guy who has to tip toe a motorcycle.. but hey I’m 17 so maybe I’ll grow more xD
I have to tip toe on my dirt bike still so I know the struggle!
The ride is always worth it though 🤘
@@JT2JZ hell if you have to tip toe the dirt bike ima have to hop off and and stand next to it 😂 might as well have a picnic with it while I’m holdin it
Haha no doubt 😆
If I could get your opinion on this I’m looking at a 2007 R6 5k miles for $6.5k and a 2008 r1 10k miles for $7k I had a 600 for a year it was a Gsxr so totally different which one should I go fo
Those are both good bikes with low kms that would literally last forever. I think it would come down to if you want a bike that is better for straight line acceleration ( R1 ) or a bike that’s a little shorter with better handling and feels more playful ( R6 )
Hey man. Question. I’m a bigger guy. Pushing 300lb, 5’11, I’ve wanted an R6 for so long, would I lose all it’s power given the weight?
I'll be starting the riding courses soon ; I'm planning to buy a ninja 300 or the R3 for 1 - 2 years ; But that R6 is on my list for the near future after that
Sounds like a perfect plan my friend.
Enjoy the journey! Any time spent on two wheels is always worth it no matter what bike you are on.
Very true!
i miss my 09 R6 so much :'( cant wait to get my full licence so i can get it or even upgrade to a 1000cc
Both bikes are a riot!
@@JT2JZ thanks man. Wasn't sure if they just made it for the r1 or both of em.
No worries

Agreed!
short rider here. two bikes priced at 4000, 12k mile r6 or 17k mile r1. both are 06 which one should I buy??
Nice choice 👌. Enjoy the new wheels brotha
@@JT2JZ What do you think about the Mileage the bike has?
Do you think 15,000 miles for a 2008 is ok or too high for this year 2021?

Yes it’s extremely inconvenient and expensive. Ive heard rumour that you may get lucky these days and find an aftermarket company to clone the black key. It’s worth looking into anyway!
^Ive seen the same 2 comments before its a scam.
@@nightnday6675 great job 👏
Sorry about your bad luck. I’ve had bikes stolen and I know how much it sucks.
You will enjoy your r1 though. 2004 is a good year
You think I could start on the r6? after a MSF course ofc
Thats what im doing. R6 should be here in a month. It depends on your skill. Sit on one and youll know whats up.
First bike i ever rode was my friends r6, that thing scared me, just gotta learn to control it
The R6 is still a handful for sure.

Yess sir
R6 was discontinued in 2020, unless you want to pay $18-20k for the beefed up track only version. I’m sure the wait list is crazy long on those, as they are built to order. Definitely hang on to your R6, they’re only going to be more expensive as time goes on.
I always thought the R6 was Yamahas most popular size bike. Crazy to see them basically just give up on it. I’m very disappointed!

@@JT2JZ i appreciate your insight, also I’m about 5’8 ish will I be fine height wise on the R1?
R1 seat height is actually lower than an R6 so no worries there!
I’m 5’10 and can basically flat foot
Both Vicious
I normally hear the R6 is more track oriented and the R1 is better on the street and less of a track weapon.
When did they stop that whole key security system thing cuz my 2014 r6 doesn't even have a key light 🤔
@@JT2JZ yeah I mean at least they can't hot wire the newer ones my key has a chip in it im pretty sure that's what you need to start the bike
In my opinion, r6 all day perfect for the road, R1 track days for the power it has.
Both bikes are amazing and definitely have unique characteristics to offer.
I always enjoy the ride no matter what bike I’m on. The older I get the more bikes I want because I appreciate them all! It’s very inconvenient some days 😆
I've never cared about 600's . Use to own a 750. Wished I would have bought bigger instead.
The 750 is a good all around bike but I always find myself guilty of wanting more power as well.
An R1 will be my next bike but I’ll be keeping my R6 as well!
Best of both worlds. I like it!
The R1 is good on height way ,but R6 is good inside city
Which is the louder on high revs
R6 has a higher pitched sound. R1 is a lower frequency. R1 is likely a bit louder but not by a lot.
What about the fuel consumption for both
R6 gets a lot better fuel mileage
Much more power in the R1, the R6 screams more and you have to use the gears more, gets tiring after a while and you have to have more rpms to get the power. I have 2 R1s and 2 Honda Vfr 750/800 and prefer the riding style of the VFRs and better for cruising, but the power in the R1s are great.
Low end torque is very nice for the street
The R1 is literally a street legal MotoGP bike when you get them unrestricted. The R6 is the chilled out little brother that gets fist bumped by its older brothers friends lol
Very accurate haha
Should I buy the R1 as a beginner?
Probably not a good idea unless you have a huge amount of respect for the bike and perfect self control. The temptation to outride your skill level is always there even for me!
@@JT2JZ Thanks for the fast reply! I'll start with the R6 then, it's fast enough for me :)
R6 is just as fun to ride! Very rev happy and light.
We all love to tame a beast which is the r1. I feel like the r6 is way too aggressive than the r1 correct me of im wrong
r6 is the sickest looking bike to me, after that my favorite looking bike is cbr600rr
The older cbr600rr and the R6 had a pretty similar look. That’s probably why I loved my old 2006 cbr1000rr so much. Great looking bikes as well
R6…no doubt..unless you weight over 200lbs..or 2013 cross plane R1.
20:24 : that was so sick especially with the supra
Thanks man! If you like supras check out some of my older videos.
@@JT2JZ will do!
It runs 10s in the 1/4 mile.
Trying to get a 9s pass hopfully this upcoming season!
Is a 2008 Yamaha r6 with 6300miles worth $6500 or am I paying too much? California
As long as it’s not the older body style ( r6s) that sounds like a fair price for a bike with low mileage like that
@@JT2JZ yea it looks pretty modern it doesn’t like like those old chunky ones
That’s a good thing, I would say go for it! With r6 bikes being discontinued now I don’t think they will ever get much cheaper than that if it’s in good condition.
@@JT2JZ awesome thanks for letting me know man I appreciate it
No worries
is 5 ft 7 good on these bikes?
Ya you will be ok. My girl friend is 5ft4 and still manages to get around on the r6. I’m 5ft10 and am very comfortable on them.
Both bikes full of fluids are not 40-50lbs different in weight. Both bikes full of fluids are 5-10lbs difference.
This… is true
Man is a 2004 yamaha r6 good as a first bike? Im only 17 and 5,6 tall
As long as you can respect the bike and take things slow until you get comfortable you will be ok. Not all people have the will power to take things slow.
If you have any previous experience with riding dirt bikes that definitely helps!
@@JT2JZ seen the answer now,i've never driven before but im gonna ride it slowly until i get comfortable with bike and thank you for the answer
Can't imagine how fast the Supra is!!!!
It’s pretty similar to the R1 from a roll. Very fun car for sure!
Get the 1 unless u don’t need top end speed
Ya the R1 really starts to pull hard on the r6 above 100kms/hr
Can't you just change the front lights on the r6?
The lights on the r6 are already upgraded piaa bulbs.
It’s hard to make 2 bulbs as bright as 4 bulbs though
