  • @LadyLocket

    What's sad is she's often blamed and vilified but Zeus literally created her to fail. She was made to have such an unnatural level of curiosity and was handed what was in essence a bomb. They specifically designed her to be unable to leave it closed, she is blameless really.
    If she had been a normal, mortal woman who was gifted the box then you could argue that she carries a small amount of the blame for opening the box as her free will was involved (but the box shouldn't have existed in the first place).
    Poor Pandora wasn't given a choice as it was truly down to how she was made. She was a tool used in a conflict between two warring Men, and as always Zeus was a HUGE D**K about everything!

      I slightly disagree. She was given curiosity as a trait but she also had free will. She was created by the gods, just as all men were, but she was still a normal, mortal woman. She was told by the gods not to open the box. It's true that Zeus hoped she'd fail. If she didn't, man would just go around with their fire and now their Pandora. He wanted her to fail, but he didn't force her to fail. Had she just followed what Zeus had told her and not opened the box, things would have been different. If only one of her gifts was self discipline or obedience.

      She had free will, giving her curiosity doesn't doom her to have to open the box. She made a decision against the orders of the man who gave it to her and doomed mankind. The same way Eve had free will and was explicitly told not to eat the apple but she made a decision and doomed mankind.

    Well ...... historically Pandora means all gifts. Pandora did not get a box. She got a jar. Throughout history, many translate the original text and mistranslated part of the story. Pandora’s story is a very male dominated point of view toward women. Depict women as the one who release all evil to the world yet with a hint of hope for the future. In the Ancient Greek language, womb was described as jar ......... which indirectly saying the gods send Pandora out to cause trouble to man kind by lighting the fire of jealousy, lust, pleasure , madness and etc within them. Yet contain hope within for a future or a better future - another word: children.

      in the bible they also depict woman as the direct result of well what everything else happened after God kicked her and Adam out.Idk i guess people viewe women as primal source to evil back then. And those crazy feminist are starting to bring that feeling back into men and its a shame. People worked hard to create a some what normaly working society and you can tell that its starting to go down hill as of late.

    I like the way the game God of war handles the Pandora's box story even though I don't really like the way they handle Pandora herself. Zues put all evil thing inside the box and Athena secretly put Hope inside it. When the box was open, all the evil infected the gods themself first and lead them to their destruction, the end of the age of gods. As Olympus fell, the world of Greek also ruined. It's like the original story: when the box is opened, the world is ruined. Finally hope was release and spread among man kind. From that point, man are on their own, no longer being controlled by gods and have to rebuild everything: the start of the age of man. However, poor Pandora....

When Pandora released the demons on the world she was able to shut the box in time to stop the last demon from escaping . That demon was hope . If that demon would have escaped there would be no hope because that demon would have destroyed it , but because she stopped it the world would still have hope .

    Just an insight: Pandora ( Greek - Πανδώρα (Παν-δώρα ) stands for All-Gifts or Gift of gifts (both sound weird i know). In the Greek language, *Παν* is a prefix used to describe a summary of elements or the greatest of them. An example of the first use can be seen in the word "Πανελλήνι-ος/α/ο" which means "All over Greece", treating the Greece as a summary of lands(provinces), while "Πανάγαθ-ος/η/ο" , meaning the purest of pures, is a good example of the secondary use. As the video explains that Zeus was planning to gift Pandora to Epimitheus, you can start to imagine the irony behind her name and her story.

    I have to disagree with the assessment that hope was, or is a good thing. It was included in the box because it is the most dangerous of all. it gives people an unrealistic sense of comfort and placates them rather than spurring them on to action. We mortals have become complacent and are far more willing to spend our time hoping that things can or will get better and precious little time actually doing anything to make things better.

      too true , hope is the last evil to leave as with all the evils released into the world to have hope was a delusion , it was nothing to do with a fair chance because after all the evils were let free we are born and we begin to die , its the one thing that is 100% a cert , zeus was a arsehole that wasn't content with a quick death , when he had a point to prove he went out of his way to prove it

      Alex Hunter Hope is both good and bad. You’re absolutely right in your assessment, but hope is also the one thing that helps us withstand everything else. It is the belief that there’s a possibility things can get better. It’s a blessing and a curse. It breeds laziness and complacency, but it also inspires action. Hope is facing all the horrors of this world and emerging with a smile on your face and new resolve.

    • @jameshyman418
      @jameshyman418 Před 6 lety +3

      in our view correct it is both but in ancient greece HOPE was all bad ....... child mortality was sky high , living to 40 was for a few , women died during childbirth death was all around the visage of medusa they painted on shields to cause fear were based on the face of corpses , to have hope with death around the corner was seen as a total evil ........ before the evils of the world were released there was no call for hope ......... everyone lived forever lets not forget that zeus had a wicked sense of humor as did all the gods but zeus when he went to prove a point he went full steam , look at the story of the minotaur or medusa being punished for being raped hercules killed his own family all their stories ended in tragedy so no in greek HOPE was the last evil as to have hope was wasted and a cruel jest

      hahaha! to be very honest, I think Zeus is very wise.. We took something that wasn't ours, and he gave us a price to pay, and once we paid it, we earned it.. sounds fair, no? I wonder why he won't wipe our memories of how to use fire again, instead.

      Flawed creators make flawed creations.
      Hence why the Bible makes sense.
      If the biblical god were perfect, then man would be also. But since this God is also flawed, then it naturally follows that he created rules to control his flawed creations. Then blames other creations (devil, demons) for misleading his last creations.

    The most important similarity that comes to anyone’s mind is the uncanny similarity between Zeus and Indra.
    Not only both of them are King of Gods in their respective mythologies, but even their weapon is almost same.
    The similarities do not end just with their position or weapon, even their abode is quite similar. While Zeus stays at Mount Olympus, Indra
    stays at Mount Meru.
    Zeus is known as the king of gods.
    Indra is the king of gods.
    Both of them also share some striking character traits.
    I don't know if Hindu Mythology or Greek is older.

    • @damunaik4
      @damunaik4 Před rokem

      It's not Mythology when you say Hindu. It's theology, or ancient history. I know it sounds illogical, but we need to know that "mythology" is the term given to it by the Europeans. They branded only their religion as something that really existed, while calling everything else a myth.

    • @music79075
      @music79075 Před rokem

      @@damunaik4 1. Zeus is a European god and is considered mythology today
      2. myth
      A.
      a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a people or explaining some natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings or events.
      "ancient Celtic myths"
      B.
      a widely held but false belief or idea.
      "he wants to dispel the myth that sea kayaking is too risky or too strenuous"
      So it is not necessarily referring to an alleged false belief.
      3. Christianity did not start in Europe and is not a European religion
      Just because you have a hammer doesnt mean you should treat all questions as a nail. Ffs dude

    It's also said that Hope was as evil as anything in the box for sometimes it's also futile to hope when there's no prospects of things getting better. For example: we hope that someone dear comes out of an illness and when it doesn't happen along with all the hope disillusionment will follow and we feel the weight of it. The Greeks also thought of this

      Humans to a certain extend but not always can change your lives for the better. True bad things like natural disaster, loved one death, serious health problems, being born into poverty with no legal way to make money because no one will give you a job even when your education qualifies you for that job, and etc. happens. I believe humans if joined can work together to ease the burden of those problems. Even individuals with nothing have occassionaly when given a chance do succeed against the odds
