The thing about the foot 3 minutes is I think Cooper and the other Ghoul are reminiscing because as a ghoul they can’t taste the food they eat or can’t taste as well as they use to. Secondly in the prewar start of F04 Nate mentions how all the food can’t expire hence why people are still eating it 200 years later.

I think the characters being flawed is actually one of the best things about the show.
This is how people are and probably would be in such a catastrophy: flawed.
Too much contemporary media shys away from depicting the flawed nature of humanity and having even their main cast being imperfect. It makes them feel real.

It's pretty weird Moldaver "needed" to hire raiders. She has basically command of a well equipped and trained force. Her soldiers would certainly be more capable of posing as vault dwellers in a party, than impulsive and deranged savages. Why risk anything with unreliable lunatics. Maybe I missed something, but that just seems like a dumb choice for no reason.

    • @FigIssacNeutron
      @FigIssacNeutron Před měsícem +11

I think that "going loud" in the vault was inevitable given their goal was to kidnap the overseer. Maybe it was easier to hire an outside party of raiders instead of building a team of soldiers willing to kill innocent vault dwellers. I'm sure times are tough at the NCR, but I think the majority of NCR soldiers would still be against this plan.
It could have also been a move to prevent speculation within the vault after the attack. For a vault that has been entirely cut off from the surface for 2 centuries, it is probably easier to believe that raiders killed your neighboring vault and stole your overseer because bloodthirsty raiders are on the list of things Vault Tech told you to expect on the surface. If they send trained soldiers, the vault dwellers might suspect something larger is going on and everyone joins in Norm's investigation of Vault 32 and 31 - foiling some later plot.

Honestly probably the most reasonable video I've seen about the show so far. I'm not going to deny the show has real problems, but ironically I barely see people talk about them. Most of the complaining seems to come from either people who seemingly see the franchise as just a series of wiki entries (and that believe that anything that contradicts said wiki entries is blasphemy) or people who for some reason believe that a character not being 100% logical all the time is bad writing. If we're being honest I think a lot of people went into this already deciding they hated it because new fallout bad old fallout good
It's funny that you say that them adding NV stuff is proof that Bethesda never actually hated Obsidian because now the NV purist narrative shifted to "Bethesda is using stuff from the west coast because they want to erase old Fallout" (yes this is a thing grown ass people actually believe)
I actually liked a lot of the ridiculous situations end up finding themselves in because, imo, a lot of the time it reminds me of the bullshit you can end up running into when playing Fallout yourself.
I think my biggest problem with the show is the overreliance on pre-war characters. I dont mind pre-war organizations like the Enclave or even Vault Tec (to be honest, I expect them to reveal the "Vault Tec" in the show is working for/IS the Enclave, which I guess would make sense) still being around because I think the idea of their ideologies being passed down for generations is interesting, but using too many pre-war characters kind of ruins it.

I think peoples complaints about the brotherhood constatnly changing could actually add even more to their faction, depending on how you look at it. I don't like it personally, Bethesda has ADHD and can't decide what it wants to do with Fallout and it shows in the series. It gets to a point where I don't even feel like I'm watching a fallout show but a collection of shows that share similar themes.
I've seen Bethesda products described as "theme parks" and I can't agree more. In Starfield this is more obvious because a single loading screen can be the difference between a Cyberpunk rip off or a Red Dead Redemption rip off. It seriously feels like whatever the writer was watching or playing that day has more impact on the product than idk... a design document?
The T-60 is an iron man suit now because someone on the staff really likes marvel. Shady sands is forced into the story for the same reason the ranger armour is in 76, so that the purist Obsidian fans look up from their glasses. You can call this speculation sure but that's all I'm thinking about while I'm watching the show because the plot doesn't give me a good enough reason to think otherwise.
I like the way it's been filmed, it's pretty and the CGI isn't too bad. The pre-war footage has this prismatic gritty look that mimics the way projectors and tube televisions in the series display colour images.

Haven’t watched the video yet but based of a few comments I am bracing for a… overall positive video, which idk for certain but it baffles my mind that anyone had any praise to give to this show
The writing alone is on lethal levels of cringe and horrendously bad within the first few minutes and it only goes downhill from there not to mention literally everything else

  • @Doople

Felt like the weakest parts of the show were the not Fallout parts like characters, themes, etc. None of them were bad but way weaker than the setting, lore and tone. Especially the family angle when we have very little investment into any family member minus norm
Also gotta disagree with nailing the humor, there were a handful of times where they missed and seemed more "marvel movie" lines like when Lucy is leaving the vault and those two guys basically go "Uhh so that happened" to end the joke.

Its hard for me to take the most vocal complaints for this show seriously when it often boils down to being mad somethung they like wasnt used in the show, or because characters and stories weren 100% "rational"
I feel like im one of the only fallout fans who meant it when we said we wanted bethesda to not reuse everything from the old games all the time. Even as someone who prefers fallout to have stories about trying to move forward past "the end" stuff like nuking shady sands isnt against fallout's story telling
It honestly feels like something black isle would have considered doing, espeacily with your interpretation of humanity constantly falling into the same pitfalls. If the show went that route it would honestly be the most faithful to that games ideas than anything we've seen since

In fact it IS something they considered doing. Part of Van Buren would have involved nukes dropping on the NCR, and it's also something that Avellone (I think it was Avellone anyway) had considered because IIRC he felt the setting had become too advanced (which funnily enough is something that obsidian purists accuse bethesda of doing)

2277 was the year the NCR first meet the Legion and the First Battle of Hoover Dam happened. Hell I can go into way more detail in explaining why the fall starting in 2277 makes more sense than people give it credit.

Very disappointed in this video. This show is a perfect example of the problem with the Bethesda Fallouts - the Flanderization of Fallout. Fallout is no longer about the idea that "war never changes", which has now become a totally meaningless phrase. The overarching theme of Fallout is the ever-presence of war and conflict in human society. A slate wiped clean for humans to *begin again*, but they just get right back to killing each other.
But Bethesda doesn't care about this at all. Fallout for Bethesda is about marketable keywords - 50s music, vaults, power armor. That's all the show is. New Vegas represented a real evolution of the Fallout world in keeping with Fallout's theme - factions that once dominated the world (like the US government) - the Enclave, the Brotherhood, even the Khans - are either finished or on their last legs, while new factions like the NCR and the Legion have appeared and are again ripping each other apart. Arguably the Legion is much newer than the NCR and represents the third wave of post apocalyptic society. The show SHOULD have been about the decline and fall of the NCR (imagine a scenario where the Legion defeats the NCR at Hoover Dam and the show is about the Legion invasion of California!) but no, we get the Brotherhood and Enclave yet again, factions which are long finished in the lore (Bethesda's Fallouts should not be canon). Because that's what's marketable.
Anyway, this show is the final nail in Fallout's coffin for me, seeing as it is set on the West Coast and is "officially" canon, we will never see any genuine continuation to the Fallout story or where New Vegas left off. The NCR is gone and the Brotherhood is back again, we've been brought right back to 2161.

Man it's a shame that the older fans of Fallout didn't really seem to like it as much as we did. I actually loved it the whole way through.
All the references were awesome. Every time something even remotely recognizable showed up I about lost it.
You can hear in interviews and such that the actors and actresses that they actually have played and loved the games. The actress for Lucy played Fallout because she wanted to respect the source material and I honestly really admire that.
The only thing that I didn't like about the show was the sex scenes/jokes (very uncomfortable for me) and the fate of shady sands.
And maybe they could've buffed power armor to not fall over so easily, but you could explain that away by Maximus being only an aspirant.
    Absolutely loved the rest though.
And that final scene showing New Vegas? Actually jumped up in my seat in excitement. Pretty sad to hear that it was so disappointing to so many

    • @FigIssacNeutron
      @FigIssacNeutron Před měsícem

yeah all of the sexual stuff was pretty unnecessary, especially considering how many people used the show to introduce their family members to Fallout. The only good takeaway from it was Maximus not knowing how it works imo. Either he's rocking a serious low intelligence build or the Brotherhood of Steel doesn't give their members "the talk" until they are knights, both are hilarious to me.

Lost another one to the Sweet Baby Inc/Black Rock slop machine. It makes it all more on the nose that Pancuronium is using AI text to speech.
We must free Todd Howard from Larry Fink's fabricated hueman trafiking black-mailing scheme, so that when TES6 drops, in game, we won't see Nord men with Redguard women in relationships together or something more extreme and worse like an Altmeri woman and Imperial man. There is no vault tec logo on the Megaton bomb, it is a manufactured mandela effect made by Amazon bots on social media.
