  • Traveling as a Jamaican has been a rather interesting experience... at least the reactions to the fact that I'm Jamaican. This video is all about those experiences: the power of the Jamaican passport, reactions to the Jamaican culture, Jamaican culture around the world, and a few tips for Jamaicans (or anyone else) who might be afraid to visit the not so typical countries.
    ------------------------------
    About Me:
    I’m Oshando or you can just call me "OJ" and I’m from Jamaica. I am currently living in Germany and I have a passion for travel, running, cooking, hiking and just being out in nature. I’m easy going, always laughing, spontaneous and always trying to find ways to exit my comfort zone.

    Lovely video! All my life, I have never known that there are black people anywhere in the world apart from in Africa. When I met you and you told me that you are from Jamaica, I thought that you were most likely adopted, that is why you could not relate to your African descent.

      The comment from Zeidane was uncalled for. Although communication is widespread there are still gaps where people are ignorant, meaning they genuinely just don't know. Jamaicans seem to live in many countries throughout the world and some individuals are iconic like Bob Marley and Usain Bolt the Olympian athlete. Jamaica is a brand like Coca Cola is. When I think of Kenya I think safari, Nairobi and Kilimanjaro.

      It is a privilege to travel to different countries and get many experiences; as you can see Jamaicans loved all over but yes there are some that are not so friendly and show their arrogance... If and when you travel to France, try to learn a few words in French before going because some of the people that speaks English will ignore you.... Even though as Jamaicans most tend to treat us a little "Better" than other "Blacks"
      Mind you it is a very beautiful country but.....

But leaving the Caribbean going to one of those 3, and you find a little something like 3-4 weekly living in. If only for 6 month, ladies that is. As for men with a trade and rest with a brethren for 3 months. It's about the dollars, not vacation. You need to learn about, (Ina Dis A Time) my youth. Gwaan pon ur va-ka-tion, no grudges!!! 🖤✌🏿

  • @djohn762
    @djohn762 Před 2 lety

    The algorithms took me to your channel and although I defer to the plethora of your travel experiences, my impression was that Jamaica was somewhat of a familiar entity. Most people associate the icons like Bob Marley, Marcus Garvey, Usain Bolt and of course the Olympic athletes rather than the country itself. However Jamaica is a brand. Nigeria for example with a population of 206 million, isn't as recognized worldwide as is Jamaica. There are some gaps of course because many people from the various countries of Africa will go to Russia, Germany, France and Italy in greater numbers than Jamaicans. It' a numbers game. Jamaica from recent UN stats hover near 3 million. Jamaica seems to be doing a swell job against almost a billion Africans.

    • @OshandoJohnson
      @OshandoJohnson  Před 2 lety

      You unloaded quite a lot right there! I guess that’s just how our minds work. We make associations with just about everything in life. It’s our way of sorting information in our heads. I really love the opportunity that I get to share with people that there’s if course much more to Jamaica than the things they already know.

    • @djohn762
      @djohn762 Před 2 lety +2

      Well, most Jamaicans of African descent had forbears who were transported as enslaved persons from the Gold Coast (Ghana) via the Triangular Trade. There might be some, a small minority, from the various tribes of Nigeria, Togo, Senegal.

    • @djohn762
      @djohn762 Před 2 lety

      Africa has over 50 countries. However, from the records that exist, it seems that most of the enslaved persons came to Jamaica from the Gold Coast now Ghana. Some years ago when scientists did a test of a plethora of DNA, they determined that all the people in the world originated from a woman in Kenya. There are some more recent theories that suggest an area between Botswana and Zimbabwe, still Africa. Might not jive with the Biblical Adam [male] but interesting nevertheless since it suggest we all came from one person.
