I feel bad for genuine tourists from countries such as Nigeria and India, as it's very hard for them to get visas due to extremely high rates of citizens from those countries breaching their visa conditions (working illegally on a tourist visa, overstaying etc). It was mentioned in this video, but the best way to get a visa if you have a difficult passport is definitely to build up a compliant travel history with countries that are a bit easier to travel to. Show that you have a history of being a genuine tourist and sticking to your visa conditions, and never lie at a visa interview.

    @bimbo3136 Před 6 měsíci +10

Wow, lovely and packed vlog. I enjoyed it! Its sad that you have experienced unpleasant travel challenges though. Perhaps this is because of profiling of Nigerian men? I'm Nigerian and female, and I've been to lovely countries in North, South, East and West Africa, my travelling has been very eye opening for me. I've also been to several countries in Europe and the Middle East, entering many countries multiple times. I've experienced delays but never due to being profiled or because I'm Nigerian its been mostly due to staff being overwhelmed with the crowd they have to deal with but never due to negative profiling or stereotyping. I've really enjoyed my green passport, I must say!
I agree with you that going to African countries helps get access to other countries, so folks that want to experience international travel should start there. I'd recommend that if it is possible to lean on work opportunities or to get supporting documentation from your office, please take advantage.
I'd say things that help are having all documentation on hand - especially vacccination documentation, information on accommodation, and being confident to speak on your purpose while in the country if asked by the border patrol officials. I once got held back in Nairobi because my Yellow Fever vaccination card did not have the expiration date for the vaccine. I had to wait almost an hour, and after a while, I was allowed to enter the country. I got back home and went to the MoH. The lady at the ofice said the vaccine is mostly administered once in a lifetime so any health official shouldn't ask, but they'd usually have a 10 year expiration on the card, who knows why I was stopped? But I was calm and cooperative with the officials.
Being polite and waiting your turn also helps, dressing in a neat way, and toning down on what may be considered to be loud or aggressive behaviour is essential. This is especially true when travelling in groups as Nigerians tend to enjoy their own company, bantering, making jokes, and having a nice time, usually with raised voices. I'm not saying to pretend to be someone else, but considering that you need help, support or information from the official or individual in the host country, going with our Nigerian charm and grace makes it easier. We often tend to want things done quickly as Nigerians and may be perceived as forceful, aggressive, or brash. It comes with the territory, there are so many of us and sometimes we have to 'buga' to make things happen in Nigeria, but that is not the norm in most other countries I have visited so calming down is wise.
Another tip is that with a valid UK or American visa that has been used before, Nigerians can get into a lot of North African countries with visas on arrival or evisa options. I've used this for visiting Egypt (visa on arrival) and Morrocco (evisa).
My final contribution is on cheaper flights and accommodation. For flights, I'd recommend using the travel comparators so sites like Expedia, Sky Scanner, etc, they often give cheaper flights. Also, subscribe to alerts on price drops and sales. The only challenge is that these are usually during off-season, like May and November, and not a good time for families that have kids in school. I once got a trip to the UK for 3 people at a little less than 700k in 2019 on Emirates using the comparison websites. For accommodation (and visas) I've had friends write invitation letters on my behalf and offer me accommodation. Online renting services like Airbnb and booking.com give the option to really shop around and get affordable places, one time i travelled to Scotland and was looking for affordabke accommodation outside Edinburgh, I selected a small town and found that it had an underground aquarium and one of the UNESCO world heritage sites. Imagine that! My trip wasn't only focused on touring Edingurgh, but we had a really nice time in North Queensferry, which was also the ancestral hometown of Andrew Carnegie - the famous industrialist and philanthropist. We visited the museum dedicated to him. I now look for these travel attractions and try to visit other towns with local or cheaper transportation. For instance a visit to England doesn't have to be only to London, using the train or bus, the visit can be extended to Liverpool, Leads, York and Manchester as a nice exploration of Northern England or one could consider touring Bristol, Bath, Stonehenge, Oxford and Cambridge which have really lovely places to visit. There are also really affordable travel airlines in Europe and America including crossing from North America to Canada, and so long as you have a schengen visa you can tour as many countries as you can afford within the period of your visa validity. So I'd encourage people to utilise the public lockers for storing suitcases and hop on a cheap flight with just handluggage or a back pack. I did this and travelled from Denmark to Paris to have a swell time! Similarly Nigerians that have japa'd to Canada can take advantage to get an American Visa and travel extensively.
I've written a lot! Whew!!!! I'd love the opportunity to explore Asia and South America! Safe travels in your journey around the world, maybe our travel itienaries would sync one day and I'd get the chance to meet you Tayo!

I have travelled to 18 countries only and I totally agree with everything you’ve said. Start with the easy, less expensive places and build your experience. Learn to travel during off peak seasons - it costs so much less. Hotels and flights are more than half the price. Plan your trips early and buy tickets 4 to 6months in advance. You will get ridiculously cheaper rates as compared to buying them one month or 2 weeks in advance. Live within your means. Traveling to see the world is different from traveling to show off. The former is cheaper and has more value. Those are my tips. Thanks for these amazing videos Tayo. I hope I can start vlogging my trips soon.❤

The last part of the video shows the current reality of traveling with a Nigerian passport: denials and maltreatment.
I started the traveling adventure since last year with a tour of Africa. Some of the things I learnt:
/ Travel with 2- and 3- pin electric adaptors. You will save money renting ones wherever you are
/ Security: check travel advisory for the country and read-up about where you travel to.
/ Learn some basic language of the target country. It helps integration.
/ Staying among locals vs staying in hotels. The former affords you direct contact and helps you learn more.

My Guy as a Ghanaian in the diaspora, I know what you mean. Just having a GH passport has limited me a lot over the last 5 years, in terms of jobs, study, and a lot of stuff I can't mention.
I had bank statements and income tax declarations but it's been tough.

I love your story, it is like working with bad genes, a curse or a disadvantage. Get your head down, destroy the script, by chipping away at it until it is completely destroyed. You are working in what the Monks call The Mode of Goodness; that is to take one step at a time to create your abundance in your life right now. You have certainly made your disadvantages PAY for you, give you a career, respect and put you in demand. 🙏🏿 Its a blessing when you can turn something bad into something that can set you on the road to positive perfection.

Tayo I totally agree with you, when we traveling:
-learn the basic Hello ,how are you? In the local language(Google & YT are ur friends).
-book affordable but comfortable accommodation in safe locations.
-youdon't have to eat in hotels/fast food joints. We might try one meal to compare, lol.
    - research ,research & more research on places we want to visit.
    - we save money in advance.
    - we have a budget that we stick to.
-"touristy" places are not always the best places to visit & they are often over priced, especially in peak season.
-avoid going to places that are currently trending cos they are over crowded & over priced.
And lastly our people (Africans) are generous ,helpful & a welcoming beautiful group of humans,we have been offered accommodation, food, tours, transport totally free. Been invited to weddings & parties (hello home cooked & free meals😂).
Lastly when going into a country/city/town/village that's a different culture to yours,be open minded & never forget your humanity.
Happy travels my African bros, sistas, cousins & friends.
    Asante sana❤

Wow! I love your channel and it's always nice to watch content produced by a fellow African. I wish you nothing but continued success. I really haven't had many issues travelling to a few African countries as well as to Canada, USA and UK. Batswana passport holders didn't even need a visa to travel to Canada up until 4 or so years ago. I am actually really surprised that you had issues travelling to some countries in Africa. So many things need to change and you are one of the many people bringing that change. Safe travels around the world!
