I'm not a master of the offside rule but weren't there 2 defenders playing barnes on when sergeant the pass?
@@elliotsloan3983the ball was played back to him anyway. He was given offside from free kick even though he is not interfering. Ref didn't even talk to linesman.

As you've been away from the Championship for a fair while you wouldn't have seen how bad the officiating has gotten in recent years. It's a disgrace and an embarrassment to English football!
I wouldn't mind VAR in the Championship as you wouldn't have to worry about them using it in favour of the big 6 every time!

Sargent is onside when the free kick is taken as he’s the first player to touch the ball after keeper saves it, he then plays the ball backwards but yet it’s called offside🥴

It wasn't. Watch Newcastle's game with Aston Villa as an example. With VAR it would've counted.
Last season Norwich had one penalty all season, despite some stonewallers. In one match the Saints get two extremely soft ones. There is no consistancy from referees. It's easy to say its sour grapes but something has to be done. P.S I hate VAR, it kills the atmosphere.
The tackle on Arrons against Wigan at Home was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen!

I've been watching Norwich for well over 40 years now and in all that time I can't think of another game when we've been so blatantly robbed by so many absurd refereeing decisions in one match. Scandalous.
The worst refereeing performance I've seen go against us was Tranmere Away in League One. I can't believe it wasn't properly investigated, it was that blatant that the ref was cheating in favour of Tranmere, most likely a favour for Mike Dean!

(so it was two pens (& one gk red) not two reds, i slightly misremembered)

I was there - mad game. Seeing our defending again is uber-cringe. Leaving the guy totally on his own from the corner is even worse than Manning passing it to them in the penalty area. A few new defenders (and goalkeeper) would be very welcome.

Great match. Norwich scoring goals again, a new squad a new season. One thing the boss needs to improve though is the Norwich defense, they need to be more confident and steadfast. Wishing Norwich City FC a really great season.

@@TheHesK9 that’s just one mistake during the game. There were fouls on saints during transition where you scored etc. if your goal would have counted we would have scored another as the tempo would have had to be different.
@saintssport1 what about the dodgy penalty at the end? That's 2 huge decisions? Hardly the same as a potential foul early in the build up. These decisions were just blatantly wrong
Probably a fair result, but none of the big decisions went against you. Ref was very one sided.
Norwich look good going forward, but that defence needs work , could go up automatically if they shore up at the back

If I was Arteta I’d offer cash + Nelson for Rowe TODAY! There’s nothing Nelson does better than this kid Rowe. Watched the hill game and that kid is premier league level 100%. Positive creative great finish and good in the air now too. All rounder.

Barnes’ goal should have counted too. In Newcastle villa game Isak scored in the same type of situation and VAR was fine with it.

yeah we're trying to relive our classic 2018/19 season, so we had a look at this young whipper-snapper with a full head of hair who'd scored double figures in the top flight for an unfashionable side and thought 'that's our guy!' ...then we waited five seasons and pounced!

Pen was very soft but that’s just the way it goes sometimes. Very impressed with the attack so far this season but the fact is that you can’t concede four goals away from home and expect to pick up all of the points. Defence needs to improve. Very sloppy on the ball at the back…
Still, I think we’ll all take four points from these opening two fixtures and now we’ve got a run of games that look pretty favourable on paper.

What's even worse was the free kick that put the cross in for the penalty wasn't a foul. The Southampton player ran into Dimi's leg, jumped into the air and rolled around. Just like the dive for their 4th goal. Russell Martin's been teaching them the dark arts of simulation.
@@dylxnms did that over and over in 0.25 couldn’t see a handball it just bounced but maybe a hand somehow could have touched it for a millisecond still an absolutely ridiculous call but it’s ok it’s football and these things happen 😂
I'm unbiased... hoping that both these teams return to the Prems. And the 2nd penalty didn't look at all "soft" to me. Guy was staggering forward ( with every chance of recovering and scoring ) when he is clumsily flattened from behind. Surely nothing else the ref could do? Whereas the 1st penalty was a travesty.🤭...
How can we hear the commentary with Adam Blackmore? This is a huge loss if we can only listen this live behind a paywall.

We really are the best side in the league. The fact we were cheated so blatantly and still outplayed them says it all.

the reason norwich fans feel "robbed" is because of highlights like this - about 50/50 norwich in possession to southampton in possession.
southampton had 70% possession, 31 shots (norwich only had 15), 11 shots on target (norwich had 6), 12 corners (norwich had 4), 709 passes (noriwhc had 307), 25 crosses (norwich had 11) and was just totally one sided.
The only reason norwich scored four is because southampton's defence was in shambles.
No win was robbed. In the end a draw was deserved for both teams.

putting aside the freekick that never should've been that led to the handball for your first pen, and then the second pen that the wider footballing community (never mind just Norwich fans) agrees was bought... (the new offside law changes creating a lot of muddy water for fans to get lost in, never mind refs & linos not aided by var, so i'll steer clear of that one too)

the only ones of those stats where goals are gonna come from are shots on target, so 11/31 & 6/15, so those ratios are 0.355 & 0.4 giving us the slight edge in a high scoring game.
you do also realise most norwich fans will've watched the full game not just highlights packages btw - it's not exactly difficult these days
it'll be interesting to see how both sides shape up when you come to ours later in the season (and how both our seasons will have panned out in the meantime)...
@ManWalksDogs not thinking about what the actual result was or any fouls, because they can be uncertain at best sometimes, the result seemed like it was fair to be a draw, as southampton was constantly on the attack but Norwich were breezing past southampton's defence.
Anyone saying that this is a roberry, either weren't at the game or are a bit deluded.
Yes we played well, looked great on the counter and scored some really good goals. But for large parts of the game Southampton dominated possession and their consistent pressure resulted in us making some avoidable mistakes.
A draw was a fair result and I'm really looking forward to this season. The lads did incredibly well away from home against a team who are one of the favourites to go up.

We had half as many shots as you and the same amount of goals. We had half as many shots on target and the same amount of goals. Yes the defending should have been better but we were much more clinical and that last penalty was very soft.

@@Seventeen_Seconds Norwich don't even get stonewall penalties (only got one last season and had 5 disallowed for which refs apologised for after games).
That being said, penalties can sometimes be subjective to the ref and they both fall into the category of "seen them given/seen them not given", Barnes disallowed goal though was the big howler for me, how can the cutback pass from Sargent be offside? 🤣

Aaron's used to try , but never got one , he would actually go down when contact was made though , he wouldn't go looking for it . The lad cheated and the ref now looks a fool.
