    Started hauling freight, have hauled cars when needed. I’m started by learning what was needed. Already had my truck so bought a trailer ( 35 + 5 ). Got my DOT # insurance and my MC#. Never did lease on but instead got loads off the boards. Oh by the way I started at 69 years old, I’m 71 and still rolling. Sitting in the Boston area for a Monday delivery. I travel all 48 all year long.
    Totally agree with doing your own labor, saves a ton of money!

    Good content, don't look down on us Non-CDL's to quick man haha. Just a tip for Central Dispatch if you are on your own authority is to go through and sign up and do all your carrier packets before hand for brokers. Its not like freight and you can do it super quick, and most times it takes at least 24 hours to get approved and alot of the time you have to call 24 hrs in advance to pickup. So plan it out accordingly if you see things on the load board you want to book. On a personal note just passed my new entrant safety audit today so pretty stoked about that!!!

    In England. Anything over 3500kg is classed as hgv, so to be used commercially you need a licence to drive that category, you need a cpc card and a digital tacho card. So it's not easy here either. Plus you can only drive 4.5 hours before you need a 45 minute break. Then you can do the same only you then need an hours break. And you can only do so many hours per fortnight. Nightmare! Keep well and Thank-you.

    California has had issues with the system they have in place regarding the trailer weight. They have been going by the state that you are registered out of. I’ve had 2 DOT Level 1’s in California in the past 6 months and both inspectors let me go and passed me with zero violations even though I’m Non CDL and I was running at about 25,000lbs and my trailer weight was over 10,000lbs. They both said technically it’s a violation but they’ve been told to let it go since I’m out of Oregon and that’s allowed where I’m from. I’m just throwing that info out just in case you need to run to Cali.

      Class B means you won't be able to run CDL.
      You are allowed a power unit greater than 26,000 but are limited to a trailer under 10,001 pounds.
      Pretty much you have two options
      Option A: Run non cdl(26,000 gcwr)

      CDL B is for school buses, dump trucks, etc

    Another thing, Steve. You run a dually, which should be around 14,000 lb gvwr. When you say 9,000 in the video, are you referring to actual weight with full tanks? The other youtubers say that the gvwr of the truck plus the gvwr of the trailer has to be less than 26,000 lbs.

    • @CPSteveMiller
      @CPSteveMiller  Před 5 měsíci

      No, the gvwr of the truck is 9,000. It's a 2500 with a dually axle swapped under it.
      Also no 04 dually was 14k. The newer ones are just not the older ones unless you buy a 45 or 5500.

Either Bay area & do a bunch of locals there, or run the central valley back & forth. After a few days or so, I'll go home.

    On a side note, i see the company your under only deals with cars and tow away. Not general freight, equipment and such according to the MC site which is what ill stick to unless i can get a pickup to get me out of a bad load area with not much loss. This company is mainly focused on power only, trailers, boats, rv, etc.. I'm the only one who does cars. I'll be getting my own authority again either late next year or early 2023. I want to build up myself and my equipment first before I decide to give myself that responsibly. But yeah I've always hated the "I need a non cdl trailer" bs.

      @@CPSteveMiller Always good to move up that way. Quick question as ive read the FMCSA site 3 times and still probably just overlooking. If obtaining a CDL with auto and airbrake exemptions, and later wanting to test to get them removed is that extortion course required to get them removed?
      On a side note, If you ever want to lease people on later, hit me up. I've hauled septic tanks, trailer stacks, oversized (15ft wide and 15ft tall), small buildings, building kits, drill pipe, construction/farm equipment, general palletized freight, and vehicles. If i ever make up my mind on preparedness and get my a55 in gear, i just need to schedule a DOT physical and go take the general knowledge and tanker endorsement. Plan on getting hazmat and tanker as a security net for empty placard tanks.

    So you’re running the app on your tablet or cell phone from keep trucking for your ELD how does it work I have a 95 international so I’m exempt . I know how to run paper logs but honestly I would rather have a app on my dedicated tablet for an ELD but a lot of guys say that the apps don’t work the greatest but being that my truck is pre emission I have no way to plug-in a actual ELD . Your exempt why are you running an ELD . I just honestly feel DOT won’t give you as hard of a time if you have the ELD instead of the paper logbook that they’re going to go over and try to scrutinize every single line on it .

    • @CPSteveMiller
      @CPSteveMiller  Před 2 lety +1

      I don't have an eld is what I said. I have keeptruckin's app. It's the same thing as paper logs. I can't plug into my truck either. No eld. Just the app

    • @kellymichael7362
      @kellymichael7362 Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, and you can edit your trip in the ap, but can't when it's plugged in to your truck. To me, paper logs are quicker. Depending on the DOT cop, ELD or not, he still might give you a hard time.

      I’ve had a couple roadside club calls try to claim tow damage. That’s why I take pictures before I load and when I unload cars. I also now have front and rear dash camera on my truck. Some club calls require pictures sent on the app before and after tow and the customer has to sign that they saw you take the pictures.

    You can't haul a trailer commercially with a GVWR over 10k without a CDL in Texas period! Most other states are adopting this rule also so do your homework before jumping into this business.

    • @CPSteveMiller
      @CPSteveMiller  Před rokem

      Texas is like every other state. 26k or under no cdl PERIOD. Takes ten seconds to look it up on their website. The guys saying a trailer over 10k needs a cdl are wrong every time.
      Class a - Combination over 26,000 inclusive to a trailer over 10,000.
      INCLUSIVE. That means you have to meet BOTH requirements for it to be a cdl a rig.
