    Steve if you can get the cdl w/ the air brakes. If not you’ll have a restriction on your license and if you want to change it you’d have to take the test again.
    Avoid the huge pain in the ass later if you can by just getting the regular cdl w brakes.

    Florida considers you a straight truck since you have a bed on the truck. Make sure you are 68 feet in length or under, if not you need to purchase a blanket permit. They’re only about $30 and are good for 12 months.
    If your over 68 feet it’s a $1000 fine.
    Also if you didn’t know, don’t blow by the agriculture stations, they’ll chase you down.

    Hi Steve, Hope all is well.
    WHEN you take your CDL tests may I suggest you take the Air Brake Endorsement Test.
    It doesn't cost any more (at least it doesn't here) and you never know WHEN you might need it spur of the moment.
    I had in my career a few times when something came up that let me take a one time trip or short term employment to keep money coming in because I took extended endorsement tests. Be flexible by having the endorsements that make sense. I would never have taken the triples test and its only 16 questions but at a bare minimum do the air brake endorsement test. Be prepared in case some unforeseen thing happens. Good luck, stay safe out there and prosper.

    Plenty of new drivers will stab too much and loose all their air, we haul 105,500 double flatbed on Washington with some of the gnarliest grades, my pops always taught me after 2 stabs it's best to hold slight pressure all the way down the hill, I've never had a problem with them heating that way. I've heard of plenty rookies at big companies who stab too much and loose all their air and boom runaway truck ramp exit 🤣. As long as your breaks are in good order and adjusted properly you should never have a problem

    You don’t need to (really you need to not) put your mc# on the truck...
    The marking rules no longer allow federally regulated for-hire carriers to continue displaying their Motor Carrier (MC) number instead of the USDOT number for identification. The regulations do not require removing the MC number, but carriers are encouraged not to display it on new or repainted CMVs.

    • @CPSteveMiller
      @CPSteveMiller  Před 3 lety

      You have to have the dot and company name at a minimal. The mc and any other info is optional. I think the city is also required. My New labels have all that plus vin and gcwr

    Being as you filled the 43ft wagon with 2 trucks...dont know if a wedge would haul 3 would it? If not a cdl would just mean extra taxes an more paperwork for not much more return in my eyes. But you wouldnt worry about weight. But i say it you thin some of the tools out you could probably gross more. The bumper an fuel tank alone probably eats 1k. But i can see the benefit for them both. Chains an binders I would probably leave them, especially with the tire straps. But if you can scale that load now legally with your set up then I'd say wind me up an watch me go cause I wouldnt change nothing.

    • @CPSteveMiller
      @CPSteveMiller  Před 3 lety

      The chains are for things with missing wheels. But I've mentioned I'm going cdl soon. With a 5500 and this trailer that's 40,500 gcwr. Never worry about weight again
