I paid $700 for $1,500 Stainless Steel Kodiak trailer brakes

  • After two brake jobs and waiting years I decided to upgrade to Kodiak Stainless Steel 225 disc brakes, calipers, rotors and mounting brackets after using the same version of the part in Dacromet. If you are submersing your trailer in salt water, do not buy or install Dacromet. My Magic Tilt tandem axle trailer for my Everglades 243cc came this way and other than swapping the leaf spring axles for torsion axles I knew I wanted to swap this system out. Eventually you end up paying twice if not more.
The good news is you are patient and keep your eyes open you can probably buy these a deep discount when buyers find out installation isn't the most straight forward. The front pad seem like a poor design but is not. It is easy to not fully install these correctly the first time and the system ends up chewing up pads left and right. You can probably get away without using the system but it is dangerous and you end up chewing up pads on your car anyways.
I hope to share how I have purchased new or slightly used high end products from cars and boats all the way down to smaller items that I use on daily or weekly basis.

Did you convert from leaf spring to torsion axles? If so how did that go?

Yes I did. It was super easy actually. The key is marking where both your old axles line up with respect to the new ones. They don't bolt on the same (obviously) nor do they travel the same when a load is placed on them. Once you figure this out you just need to make sure your distance for each bolt hole will result in a fit that is square. I used 4 floor jacks and clamps to ensure I had all this right before drilling. Start to finish I want to say it took 4 hours and about half or more was prep time of what I describe here.

Every torsion axle trailer I've owned drove like cat piss. Leaf springs all the way.
