    A quick tip from doing loads of motorbike brake - take the bleed nipple all the way out and put some teflon tape on the thread. This helps stop sucking air past the thread when vacuum bleeding, and also stops the nipple from rusting into the brakes into the future. Clear hoses and clear containers also make it easier to see if air bubbles are passing through too.

    Got to love the surge brakes! If you're replacing the master, make sure that any orifice (the little brass thing on the outlet of the master cylinder) stays with the trailer... looks like your new actuator came with an orifice. Also, side-to-side is not always equal, you can see in the video that the line comes down one rail and tees near to one side... bleed the *other* side first, rear first. If you're having master problems chances are you're having slave problems too... open up those drums and make sure your slaves are free and not over-extended or rusted. Surge brakes don't self-adjust... you must manually adjust them using the pokey screwdriver method... go for light drag on all wheels. You can test them in a gravel drive... hit the brakes and see that all stop evenly, if one locks up more than the others loosen it.

    So down here in Australia if we are building a off-road boat trailer for going adventureing we will use electric over hydraulic disk brakes and intentionally put the brake lines inside the frame to protect against sticks rocks ECT

    I put surge brakes on my utility trailer when I built it. Trailer tires last longer and any vehicle can tow it, whether they have a brake controller or not. Most Uhaul trailers around here have surge brakes for the same reason.

    • @petelattimer6808
      @petelattimer6808 Před 3 měsíci

      in the UK its the only form of brakes we have for trailers, unless you are talking HGV trailers with air brakes. really dont see the point of 'trailer brake controllers'. seems like complexity for the sake of it, to me

    • @om617yota8
      @om617yota8 Před 3 měsíci

      @@petelattimer6808Trailers can have ABS, the trailer brakes can be activated separately from the vehicle brakes, trailer brakes can be set to come on an instant(microseconds) before the vehicle brakes for more stability. I can see good reasons. Most don't apply to tiny little utility trailers and such, but I can see good reasons.

    Great video! There is no issue with electric breaks on boat trailers. It is only 12 Volts DC, nothing is damaged or does not work just because they get submerged in water. The reality of water on electric breaks is nullified by the example of driving a trailer equip with electric breaks through the rain for hours. My boat trailer has electric breaks and has been in and out of the water many times both fresh and salt water, as well as driving it through the rain for hours at time.

    Never knew there was such a thing as how that receiver moves to apply brakes to the trailer, COOL.

    • @petelattimer6808
      @petelattimer6808 Před 3 měsíci

      there is no other method in the UK for trailer brakes (unless you are looking at air braked HGV trailers). theyre either hydraulic like this, or rod operated. much more simple, and more reliable, if kept properly lubricated where its needed, than any electronic gizmo.

    To bleed serge brake easer, instead of using a strap and a 2x4. remove the two bolts holding down the brackit on top that keeps the brake away in position and use a pipe on it and just pump the brake away tab and it will pump the brake easer then using the tung of the trailer...
    Ps. love the videos watch all the time

    Tip
    Before wasting hours failing to vacuum bleed the breaks remove (and clean if necessary) the bleeder valves and wrap a bit of thread tape near the top of the valve so that it stops air from sucking past the threads. You can also try some rubber grease and an O ring

    When will we get an update on the V10 Mustang and the JuiceBox Bronco?

    • @philbert006
      @philbert006 Před 10 měsíci

      Just got one not too long ago. Juice box is done and a fine family ride. Scott built the v10 and had it installed and driving. Said he's too busy to worry about the upgrades he really wants to do. Stop being that guy that never learned how to do anything for himself. Go and look, put in a little effort before you cry for help. It'll change your life. Maybe learn how to cook a simple meal or two and stop living off fast food. Maybe watch and listen to the videos rather than ask questions that are answered usually in the first half of the video, cause even though you didn't this time, you're definitely that guy. Or don't, and wonder why she always cheats on you and your friends are always busy. Nobody is interested in taking care of a grown person. Nobody with good mental health, anyways.

      Phil, bro, the fact is, I don’t have time to watch ever second of every video. Mostly cause I have an actual job and have my own engine swap I’m working on. I wasn’t crying about not having an update, I just genuinely wanted to know if they had canceled the v10 mustang or not. I was watching that project because I plan on doing a similar build in the future. I love this channel and I live Rich’s builds. Wasn’t expecting to get unloaded on by some random internet troll. Bro, I was just asking a simple question. If want CZcams drama, start following another type of channel, cause the rest of us here just love seeing cool builds. And if Rich himself sees this, love your channel man, I just simply didn’t already know that there was already an update on those builds

      my heavy duty dump trailer has a height adjustable hitch, i believe it’s only 2 1/2 bolts for a trailer that can weigh upwards of 16000 lbs
      i doubt this boat and trailer weighs more than 6000 lbs
      not saying your wrong for thinking that is sketch, but it’s not out of the ordinary

    So everytime you back up this type of trailer hitch, the brakes are applied hard on the trailer?
    Seems like thats what would happen.
    Aspecially on uneven ground and or offroad..

    • @petelattimer6808
      @petelattimer6808 Před 3 měsíci

      no theres usually a lug you flip over the moving part to prevent it applying the brakes when reversing. in the UK there is no other method for trailer brakes, except HGV air brakes. they can be either hydraulic or rod operated.

  • @SteveRivett
    @SteveRivett Před 10 měsíci

    Not a fan of that style brake or coupler. The quick couplers don't have any adjustment so they are super noisey and good luck backing up a hill with surge brakes. I did my A test with surge brakes and had to make a gadget to block the brakes from working so that I didn't have to push the trailer backwards with the wheels locked.

    • @MrSleepProductionsInc
      @MrSleepProductionsInc Před 10 měsíci

      There is usually a lockout device to keep brakes from actuating. But i’m sure some manufacturers never thought about having to back up uphill.

    • @jasonb6570
      @jasonb6570 Před 10 měsíci +1

      Surge brakes have a lockout when you put the tow vehicle in reverse. If yours locked up when backing up hill, then it wasn't working properly.

    • @jaydunbar7538
      @jaydunbar7538 Před 10 měsíci

      Someone’s not very bright, use the lockout lol
      Don’t feel bad your not alone, a guy I know had his boat for a year and was looking at getting a new trailer because he hated backing it up, yet he asked me if I knew what the little pin that said “lock” on it was for lol

    Hey Rich, I converted my boat trailer to electric twenty years ago,never had a problem, Just unplug them befor you back into the water. Reason I converted to electric was every time you backup you have to lock out the master cylinder and if you have to do a couple shots at getting it in each time you move forward or back down hill you have to lock it out again .Just a pain in the keester , talk to ya latter Gord

    • @jaydunbar7538
      @jaydunbar7538 Před 10 měsíci

      That depends on the hitch designs, some you have to remember to unlock it when you leave instead.

    Why don't you just switch to electric brakes and power the whole thing off of the Milwaukee 12 V under the driver seat? I saw a video of some clown powering his boat motor that way and the batteries on that episode of Deboss... I mean video, didn't corrode.
