Pretty crap dogs.

I just never will understand what makes people scared of a little cute owl.
Razor sharp claws and beaks, that rip through flesh very easily. A better fed owl, would have had more energy to react. Not that we know how difficult it was to catch, we only saw still photos.
Edit: I understand this owl is harmless, I'm talking about the mindset of people who don't understand wildlife.
@@wayfaringstranger Exactly! Happy Saturnalia everyone! ;-D
@@northernsnow6982 Not to mention how dirty their claws are in sense of bacteria from fecies, rotting meat and other nasty stuff from little critters they eat.
@@wayfaringstranger I mean, those trees are specifically grown with Christmas in mind so yeah lol.
They get scared cause they think animals and plants are an alien myth.
If anyone finds an owl like this, please call a wildlife rehab in your area (if possible). They will check for injuries (especially if this owl was bundled up/transported on top of a car or truck while packed inside a tree) and rehab him until he's regained full strength. Even if there are no injuries, if he's been inside a house for four days, they will make sure he's properly hydrated/fed and then release him into a species appropriate habitat area if it's not possible to release him where the actual tree was cut down. This kind of release is better than nothing obviously, but if you're able to go that extra mile and get him to a wildlife rehabber, please consider it to give the owl the best chances for survival.
Dude just shut up, the owl will be fine
I couldn't believe they just released him into the backyard..
@@TexanWolverine owls live outside, not in homes
To me the owl may have been unwell which is why it never left the tree and when the man was holding it the poor thing looked like it didn't have energy to resist anything.
@@jimboslice6367 Yes. But the owl stayed in the tree for 4 days without any food and when the man held it in its hands it had no flight or fight reaction. It could have been unwell.
Poor owl, it's so cute and it was probably scared. 😢I hope it was not injured and it's doing well now
Fortunately, despite its size, it's actually a full-grown owl and they're pretty hardy as a species even for being in this situation for a few days. There was one that was trapped in the Plaza Hotel a few years ago in New York that was still fairly kicking despite being in the building for a week before Animal Control was able to catch it.
Note: For those conserned, they had been going after it for about five days- it was discovered two days after the Christmas tree had been brought in and the owl was apparently NOT having any sort of "Let us humans carefully capture you, give you a check up and then release you back into the forest the tree was cut down in" like... at all. It was only after they tired it out and baited it that AC could safely bring it to a sanctuary where it could get more food and rest.

Just because it is a small owl doesn't mean it's a baby. There are several varieties of small owls in North America. He may be a full grown screech owl or other full grown small-sized ear-tufted owl. Also, owls have babies in the Spring, so this is probably not considered a "baby" owl by December.
It is a full grown screech owl.
it's a little person owl
That is clearly a baby owl. Regardless though. It was not given food or water cor days and is a protected spices (all owl species are protected). Which means it is illegal th o just release them anywhere. They should have called wildlife control to come get the BABY OWL and make sure it was ok! Those trees travel for thousands of miles a lot of the time. Meaning it was also taken out of it's native habitat as well as away from it's mother.
That is probably why he flinched his eyes. I bet it was a grown man and they talked about a baby 😂
@@jessicapearson9479 I'm not so sure. We have had many owls keep their nests in our wooded yard, and when they are owlets they look very different than this one does. I am not an expert, but I think this one is not a "baby" anymore. Hopefully it can care for itself.
That poor owl, taken in a tree from it's home, we have NO idea where. It would have been hundreds of miles away. I feel so bad for the bird. I don't know why the woman wouldn't want to stay in the house, the owl wouldn't hurt her unless she tried to hurt it. Owls are such gorgeous creatures, my favorite bird of prey.
Not sure I 'baby" owl would have made it on its own in a new location. It looked sick. Why not call a local wildlife or wild bird rescue?
Since when are owls considered prey?
@@bersura6317You've never heard the phrase "bird of prey"?
@@bersura6317they are quite fierce and adept at hunting as well.
@@sugarsoreBird of Prey means they hunt prey. Owls are predators.
Why not find a wildlife rescue for a BABY bird that has been without food and water for 4 days and so is in a weakened state? Raptors are generally protected, and there are rescues that will return them to health and release them in an appropriate environment.
Wild animals can fend for themselves when healthy and the owl was healthy. No need to pamper it.
@evelyn......I agree. Since it was a baby it may not be able to feed itself yet. It takes so little effort to make sure it will survive.
Luckily this is a full grown Screech Owl. They are small owls and even full grown adults are only 6 - 10 in in height.
I would have preferred some water and a mouse dinner before release but trying to find a wildlife center for wild birds to get rehab is almost impossible in some areas. We once saved a hawk that had flown into grandpa's window and not a single place would take him.
Grandpa instead put him inside a box for an hour and then opened the box. Stunned, he looked at us both as if to say, "What the heck did you put me in a box for!" then flew off. lol
The owl will likely survive now that he is released and will be able to make his own way home.

I'm stunned they just released it after being dehydrated and without food for 4 day in anew location.
Are there not rescues for wild animals in America?
If it's a baby bird, why not call a rescue center to make sure it is actually old enough to fend for itself? It's adorable, btw. If I found that little guy in my tree, I'd be having the best xmas ever.
It isn't. Looks like a gray screech owl. Looks pretty adult to me. They're actually pretty docile and small. I saved a crimson screech owl once that was hit by a car. Thing let me pick it up and I brought it to a raptor rehab.
Looks like a fully grown Eastern screech owl 🦉 feel bad he/she was released without a drink at the least.
Poor bird should have gone to a sanctuary for a few days to recoup for a couple days.
Right- not a baby owl but an adult screech owl
He will be fine
Owl's generally don't drink, they get all their hydration from their food.
This is what's wrong with lots of people they always think an animal is in distress so they always have to try to help it them thinking they're doing the right thing can actually harm the animal happens all the time
I really dont think that cute owl would harm anybody. They invaded the owls home . I do hope the owl is okay in a new home. Beautiful bird.
It probably wasn't a baby but a pygmy screach owl. We had a family of them nest in old ash tree. Tiny and very docile around people.
Correct
They have terrifying screams. If it would've screamed while INSIDE the house, the people would've been scared sh*tless and they would have left in the middle of the night, never to return 🤣
Awwww

Screach owls are not actually the species with the terrifying scream... that is actually Barn Owls that scream like Banshees. Screach owls have more of a trill if I remember correctly, and are not very loud when they do make a harsher vocalization. I don't know how they got their name, but I used to assume the screaming owls were screach owls, too. Had no idea those serine looking barn owls I'd see were the ones making the sound ofva woman being murdered.
Poor owl was probably terrified and hungry. Hope it's OK.
Owls can be quite docile compared to most birds. Like other animals birds also have a sense of gratitude and the owl will likely visit its human friends again.

The owl is so adorable
Eastern Screech-Owls eat most kinds of small animals, including birds and mammals as well as surprisingly large numbers of earthworms, insects, crayfish, tadpoles, frogs, and lizards. They eat many kinds of mammals, including rats, mice, squirrels, moles, and rabbits. Small birds taken as prey include flycatchers, swallows, thrushes, waxwings, and finches, as well as larger species such as jays, grouse, doves, shorebirds, and woodpeckers. This owl is agile enough to occasionally prey on bats, and can rarely even be cannibalistic. When prey is plentiful, Eastern Screech-Owls cache extra food in tree holes for as long as four days.

Cute story, but wrong owl ID. That is a mature 'Gray Morph' Eastern Screech Owl. Babies have very woolly looking 'down' until they are ready to fledge (make their first flight). The adult Screech Owl is very small in stature -- about 7-10 in. tall. They are very docile owls, and are very skilled fliers and hunters of rodents, snakes, and lizards. Their call sounds like a high-pitched horse whinny.
I'm familiar with these sweet little guys, as we were blessed to have a family of them living in our back yard a few years ago -- three babies, mom and dad. We also had a 'Red/Rufous Morph' Eastern Screech Owl living in our tree in the front yard -- prettiest owl I've ever seen. 🙂

I think it really could have hidden close to the trunk while they decorated, camouflaged and they weren't worrying about the trunk area...they were decorating the outer part. I can see how it could happen.
Or maybe it came through the chimney? Uncapped? And everyone is assuming it came from tree farm?
When they get scared they plant and don't make a peep. Might have just hidden deep in the branches. My dad found an owl in a bush he was trimming. It was so scared it didn't move and he could pick it up and relocate it.
