New Orleans has been steadily sinking forever. It was built on clay soil. The pressure of the city squeezes the water out of it like a sponge, and the city sinks.

Yes, the global warming/climate change people need to be told that the sea level isn't rising but the coastal cities are sinking under their own weight.
1,000 people per square mile on top of all that concrete and steel. Built on swamp land in some areas, they had to dig to bedrock for a foundation.
The garbage landfills probably don't help, just more raised surface area, so the rainfall fills up the reduces flat land. Its possible, among many other things.
Plus all the tunneling leads to seepage from ground water and ocean possibly.

This sinking is related to isostatic rebound. Sea level rise is due to continental ice loss and thermal expansion

How can we not expect that thousands of years from now, future archaeologists will be unearthing the remains of todays skyscrapers and wondering what happened to such a huge population?

Then last year some company bought more than half the parking lot and starting a construction. All the boroughs (maybe except for Staten Island since it’s disconnected and because it’s more Suburban there and has more forests. WOW! do a story on NY city. Houston has sunk 5/8" from 2014-2020 but 9'10" since 1917. When you pump water and oil from underground the ground sinks. This is happening everywhere and groundwater pumping has already tilted the Earth on it's axis. Taking things out of the Earth and putting them in the atmosphere makes the atmosphere heavier and the earth lighter. A lighter earth can hang on to less atmosphere so it floats off into space. I think they said the moon is drifting away too so less mass of the planet affects that too. The sun will expand and kill earth in a billion years but we will shrink the earth to Mars size unable to hold on to the atmosphere long before that.

Which is exactly what they’re saying: hey these landfills will be built but it will take 200-300 years for that mound of trash to degrade and turn to earth and dirt. And then you get a dipshit who says let’s build major stuff right ontop of those landfills which we know will start as a hill of trash and over years reduce itself to a flat terrain if not cave in on itself and cause a small sinkhole due to improper drainage. They poured concrete and asphalt onto trash not gravel and the rest of the city and parks same deal it was built upon and over and taken down and built back up.
