      Hi! I've question for you. I've got BMW Z4 2003, 2,5L. The problem is that when you push gas pedal hard, car accelerating, but when it comes to 3000 rpm engine goes to "emergency mode" (I don't know what is called, RPM jumps from 1000 to 1500 and back). If don't push gas pedal hard - it runs good. I've change intake pipe already and cleaned idle control valve. Errors shows - MAF sensor and idle valve. What would you recommend to do?

    I can’t believe you didn’t start it up at the end. It was still a very good detailed video of how to remove and clean and reinstall the idle valve and it shows removal of the disa valve pretty well as well. Good job on that.

    I have a 2005 BMW X5 which was throwing the 4X4 / brake /eml codes and going into limp mode.
    The suggested fix to try was to clean the idle control valve. Your video was excellent and very easy to follow.
    After cleaning the valve - and clearing the codes everything is running great! Cleared up a bit of a rough idle as well! This was especially helpful to me as I am in Mexico and finding a good mechanic with BMW experience is tough!

    Thanks for that! Had multiple codes including Idle control valve on my E46 2.2 320i. Cleaned the idle control valve and the disa. Also bypassed the CVS and then had to replace the MAF sensor (got a second hand one from a Volvo - same Siemens unit) and then 1 dodgy coil. Now running like new!

    Hi Zeit
    Thanks for small reply. I’ve recently cleaned my control valve and prior to removal and inspection, it’s surprisingly in a perfect condition the fact that mileage has reached 300 plus for a 2004. This is my third BMW I’ve owned, E36 320i, E36 325i but I’ve always have a soft spot for the first generation X5 especially with the M54B30 version. Just easy to maintain and so reliable. I would like to own a E39 which is what you have purchased recently and the leather seat as you mentioned is in perfect condition.

    Your a confident mechanic with a real talent for for using your knowledge and experience to make it easy to understand what why & how to be extremely careful and conscientious of every step by step procedures that must be carefully performed to do the job correct.
    I have a question. Will an idle valve on a E83, 2.5, 24 valve straight 6 cylinder with 160,000 miles on it be the reason the engine idles at 900 rpms in park and in drive with the brakes on. I don’t know what the idle for that engine is and I will look it up but I know from the clunk the automatic transmission makes when downshifting 900 rpms is to high.

  • @blackpassenger

    great video, many thanks. will a bad icv, or one thats going bad, cause idle surges? i have a 2000 320i with 40k miles and if i let it idle long enough, it will surge for 10 - 15 seconds then normalize. it also surges, sometimes just a few times, after switching off an accessory (headlights, a/c for eg) during idle. few days ago, after driving for about 2 hours in crawling, 2mph traffic in tokyo, the engine suddenly shut down. I was able to restart it immediately with no problem. there were no codes. what do you think?

  • @fjwong7337
    @fjwong7337 Před 6 lety

    Bimmer Zeit: Thanks for the encouragement. The Disa, icu, and throttle body cleaning job went smoothly; though very time consuming. Would like to share my experience. 1. Disa: the o-ring is not really an o-ring, it's glued on, very tight. Therefore no official BMW part. Some after market vendor in EBay, but O'Reilley doesn't carry it. It's a pain to pick and scoop out the broken (easily) ring, as it split into small pieces. So easier would be to use gasket maker to paste over the existing (flattened) ring. 2. it would be easier to remove the icu with the inside boot removed first. 3. in my case to remove the inner boot hose (with the 2 screws turned downward) was really a pain and tested my patience and lots of time. 4. While at it, why not also clean the throttle body? Overall, it patted myself for a job well done!

    I have an issue with my 2001 530i giving me only 13 mpg driving mostly in city, I’ve seen people saying the ICV could be causing me low mpg, do you think doing this could help? Thanks
