I just got my Endela in K390 today. Thanks for the ref. Also got an Opinel No. 8 in carbon steel. Two folding knives could not be more different, 19th century tech versus 21st century!

This is great and really not a comparison, just like you noted. A great all around steel for most users. I have a Para 3, that is probably my most used work knife. It is not the coated blade and Spyderco has put the most glassy stonewash I’ve ever seen on it. Not something they did on previous versions. Love that thing!

I don’t know if you’ve already touched on the subject. But, if you haven’t do you mind doing a video on what blade angles you use when sharpening with the different task you do at work ( cutting boxes… ext) and in your option what angles hold up the most. Thanks! Love your content 👍👍

Best comparison ever. It's the brave that can change an opinion based on time, new observations, and design.

I definitely agree with your s45vn assessment. I love the way it sharpens. Gives me Spy-27 vibes on the stone.
Will go ultrafine high polish or coarser 600-800ish grit and it does great on both.
I found that the Spyderco tends to...*puts on i'm-full-o-crap cap* get/stay toothier as you use it when compared to Chris Reeves? which tends to degrade pretty linearly? I mean we're splitting hairs and I could really be talking out of my ass. But it's just what I felt after sharpening them using the same progression.
Such a great steel that you can throw in your pocket everyday and use with zero fuss.
My para 3 s45vn only being kicked out of primary duty by my new Rex-45 Native that John reground for me! Got it back from him Saturday and it hasn't left my side.

My Emerson A-100 came in today. Thank you for the recommendation. I didn't even know about Emerson until I saw your videos on it. You are right. My A-100 is super smooth and very sharp. I was a little concerned about the chisel grind from other reviews but it is really sharp and cuts like crazy. Mine doesn't even have lock stick like I have seen on some reviews. It is absolutely fabulous and now my favorite knife. I trusted your opinion over others and I'm glad I did. Thanks so much. This is a great video as well even though my comment is about the Emerson 😂

My favorite S45VN blade is my Spartan Harsey. It's like a perfect combo of being tough as hell but also holding a great edge for a long time and thanks to the Harsey's blade style, it cuts beautifully as well

Thank you again for pushing me to actually use my shit and learn to free hand sharpen. Since laying back the angle on my 940-2 i have absolutely fallen in love with it. I was totally digging on the bugout till i rolled the edge cutting some (i thought light duty) tubing. Not a problem with the 940 lol. Still carry both but the 940 is my main user.

So I have a para 3 and Malibu both in s45vn.... which I absolutely love both btw!!!... lol but speaking on a strictly performance level tho the Malibu is a no questions better feeling knife in hand!! In almost every way conceivable......... but the pm3 seems to do a 1000% better time when it comes to actually getting and being used!!!!and stropping back to.......and that HAS to be blade geometry right? And 2 different companies using the " same "steel is still going to yield diff results cuz they both have much different protocols in place.. but with them both being the same s45vn I look at them just like that.... but the Malibu will never compete with actual day to day cutting jobs!!!!!!! Tho now I'm thinking a hollow regrind on my Malibu is looking really great at this point lol........

I'm presently comparing 2 used PM2's. One k390 the other s45vn. From the limited research I can find, it looks like k390 & s45vn retain & strops back very well. As for toughness they also seem comparable. Does that sound right to you? Aside from corrosion resistence these two seem similar if heat treat is on point. Would U agree?

    • @ericasedc
