I took band in 5th grade back in 1966, coincidentally the year Herb Alpert & The TJB's "S.R.O." LP was released but the only song I remembered at the time was "A Taste Of Honey", which was on the radio a few years earlier. It was the early Summer of '69 when my folks allowed me to travel to Sandusky, OH for a month, then to Utica, NY for a month as a reward for graduating Jr. High School and readying for High School. One of my mother's sisters lived in Sandusky and another lived in Utica (My folks settled in Columbus, OH where they raised me and my 7 brothers and sisters) and like our family, both my Aunts raised large Italian families, so there were cousins everywhere! My Godparents lived in Sylvan Beach, NY - about a half hour drive from Utica and they owned and ran a small, local ice cream parlor there and attached to the shop was a small record store. My Aunt Louise drove me there and I stayed with my Godparents for one week and had the time of my life with them, they even let me work there, serving ice cream and beverages to customers. With the money my folks gave me on my trip and what I earned working at "Eddie's Ice Cream Shop", I bought some souvenirs and my very first Herb Alpert & The TJB lp, "S.R.O." My Aunt Fifi and Uncle Eddie had a modest record player in their home and I played that album nearly non-stop for the duration of my trip, there AND back at my Aunt and Uncle's home in Utica. I was totally hooked on the mariachi sound of that extraordinary band and before long, had purchased the entire catalog of their albums. The memories I have growing up listening to Herb Alpert's TJB are some of the best of my whole life! God Bless you, Mr. Alpert for your amazing musical talent and genius AND your generous heart......you are a humanitarian of the highest order!
So many wonderful memories in simpler times. Dad would come home from work, Mom would bring him a martini and put this album on. I have all their records from his collection. ❤ miss you Dad!❤
If you guys want the upgraded remastered CD's of these great early albums, I highly recommend the Shout Factory reissues. You can pretty much get all the Tijuana Brass recordings like this. And there's even some previously unreleased material on some of them.

I have my own lyrics for Mame, but they're not suitable for public or mixed company. My wife probably thinks my lyrics when she hears it.
