  • My first review with a new HD camera and introducing an incredible variety of old U.S. rations up for review. This FPA review is not only an exciting look at an extremely uncommon ration, but also one that has some beautifully preserved components.
    The Food Packet Assault is the predecessor to the MCI and LRP (Meal, Combat, Individual) (Food Packet, Long Range Patrol) and was essentially a K Ration of the 1950's. A fascinating and transitional ration, a rare treat - true military food art.
    PS - I didn't realize until long after the shoot that those water purification tablets were missing from the ration. Noting it here and hoping someone can pass that along to anyone wondering about this in the comments.
    For correspondence, or to send a Military Ration for review, my exact mailing information is:

      @@THISISLolesh Steve said the pre rotten ration was something that a soldier in the field might not have any other option but to eat. While you got 2 in the pack only having one ration for 24 hours in full combat will be a major drain on a soldier. Your choice might be to have to try to take an enemy supply dump in the hopes that it’s full of edible food when your units are only getting one meal they can eat for 24 hours. Or end up unable to advance cause your soldiers are hungry and the last food they had was 20 plus hours ago. Rotten food or no food are both pretty demoralizing. And trying to subsist by eating local vegetation is something only the North Koreans can manage

    Howdy folks, after a little extra time learning how to use some various new equipment and some technical issues resolved, this video is finally ready and the upgrades have come to fruition.
    Now instead of using two cameras, things are simplified back to one like in 2016-17.
    This alone is going to make production significantly less complicated. I'm happy with the quality, and I hope you will be to.
    This Food Packet Assault was a real gem - something that I've not reviewed in over 5 years now. For every fifty K Rations out there, you'll maybe find one of these. Speaking of K Rations, this is very much like a K Ration of the 1950's. The beginning part of this video shows some various ration correlations and I encourage anyone interested in this to not skip around on that initial part of the video. Hope you enjoy! Alright cool, see ya.

      @@noahpaulette1490 Yeah, around the 70s/80s is when cigarette companies started putting all the REAL cancerous shit in cigarettes, like formaldehyde, various acids, etc. in an effort to increase its addictiveness. Of course, tobacco is never actually safe to inhale, and as recently as the 1930s a lot of smokers didn't actually inhale the smoke, treating it basically the same way as a cigar. Inhaling the smoke only became widespread when manufacturers started cutting the nicotine content in an effort cut costs, replacing much of the tobacco with filler.

      Well, never underestimate what 66 years of...uhh...."production cost optimisation" did to todays products. back then most sweets were still actually sweets, nowadays they really should call them chems instead. I wager the changes for cigarettes are similar.

    • @kaitlyn__L
      @kaitlyn__L Před 3 lety +7

      @@matrix3509 even beyond all the flavour additives, there’s also crap like collecting the dust from the floor and making it into a new sheet with some kinda binder crap and adding that in with the actual leaves. Not to mention including the stems too! Just the worst parts of the plant, which for a long time they rightfully discarded when they were competing on taste and experience. But as you say, they realised they had huge brand loyalty and just focused on being more addictive to increase the rate of purchases. Of course there were always people who smoked a pack a day, but back then far more people smoked one a day or even less, maybe even one a week, and weren’t actually chemically dependent.

      Indeed! I've been doing a lot of research on British naval combat in the early 19th century and it amazes me how they survived on what they had to eat. Simply having weevils in their tack was common and the ships millers(rats) were eaten as quick as they could catch them. They would have a noose around a hole in the hull and place cheese outside the hole. They'd strangle the millers as they poked their head out. And when no more millers would come out, they'd eat the cheese. I guess a belly full of grog helped keep all the bacteria they consumed at bay.

    When old tobacco has an ammonia smell, lay the smokes down for a few months in a SEMI-humidified environment for a few months, ie: about half the humidity of a standard cigar humidor. Depending on the quality of the tobacco, they will eventually lose the ammonia smell and emerge smoother and sweeter than they were originally.

      Ahhh yes! That beautiful old green tin. Delicious stuff.
      I haven’t smoked anything but for a few cigars in the past 7 years or so. In the early 80’s through to the early 2000’s I was big into pipes, cigars and fine cigarettes. Vintage tins of tobacco are becoming very hard to come across these day and the prices are very high if you’re lucky enough to find them. I remember in the late 90’s you could pretty easily still find old timey tobacconist shops which were at the time, well well past their heyday and struggling. Often you could find sealed 15-25 year old tins of legendary, fine blends, covered in dust, that were never marked up in price from the day they arrived at the shop. Sadly that is no longer the case. Every “smoke shop” these days has been gutted and filled with bongs, hookahs, vapes and a lottery counter.
      Even the few old brands of some of my favorites that still exist, in name only, have been totally corrupted…Crap!
      Three Castles, as you know, was a fine cut, 100% bright Virginia cigarette tobacco. I can’t think of an equivalent off the top of my head. You may be able to find something similar at Smokingpipes dot com in the tobacco section.
