Incredible. Instrument as well as voice and love the cadence of your voice. Visually the background puts everything into relief. Always surprised the other side of the north sea version of the same song Harpa is so rarely referenced in the same breath ... der bodde en bonde ved ei strand, harpa tuner var og fin (folque norwegian 1970's and bergtatt also).

wow.we have this song in california called 'Oh the Wind and Rain ' by Jerry Garcia .we don't really know where he got the song if he made it up or it was something fro American folk music . Interesting that song is about a violin and this seems to be about a harp . I like your instrumental part too very much . Pentagle is cool .

Appears that its very old, much like a lot of folk songs that ended up in America. Presumably taken over with the migrants and evolved over the generations

Nice cover. You're voice is majestic. It would be nice if the strings were a bit louder to blend better with your vocals. I like what you did with the rhythm a lot. Jacqui Mcshee is a goddess of vocals and it is no easy task to do a rendition of one of her songs but your rendition would make her proud. I know this is a very old song and there are many versions but to me Pentangles version is the one. The dark sister sure was uncomfortable when that harp began to play and sing all on its own!

lay the ben to the bonny broom ... refers to the murky origins of the song but originally a murder ballad involving two brothers (the sibling part is preserved but the younger brother kills the older instead of the older sister killing the younger). 'ben' for bone and 'bonny broom' referring to a plant (broom), where the bones are laid, usually next to a bridge.
