Surprised you didn't make mention of them weaving the side plots from the PS2/Wii/PSP version into the story a bit better than the flagship. Like how the Michael Morbius stuff tied into the symbiote by making that part of Shriek's stuff, and the Lizard plot leads into the Morbius one.

I’m so glad i had the ps2 version. Had no idea the flagship was that bad. I loved the territorial gang system and eliminating all the groups, it was very satisfying to see police symbols all over the map. Shame you didn’t mention you had to find all Spider logos to unlock the black suit, or the meteorite fragments to unlock Venom, and they could be located by following the sound they emited. I remember spending hours combing through the map to find the last one
Actually the meteorite fragments were nothing u dont get venom even if you collect them all (it would have been cool tho if we had got venom by collecting all the meteorites)

I always told people I really enjoyed Spiderman 3 but didn't learn about how bad the flagship was until years later. The ps2 version is so much better

It's worth noting that Treyarch's final Spider-Man game, Web of Shadows, was something of an apology/"what we'd do with a Symbiote storyline" game directly after Spider-Man 3. With all the tech actually finished and no movie to tie-in with, it began what Beenox would then capitalize on with some genuinely original Spider-Man games from Activision. Even the TASM movie tie-ins are essentially their own timeline with unique villains and plots.
Sadly, being published by Activision means that, other than Shattered Dimensions, every other entry besides SD and Web of Shadows was rushed out the door far too early.
I agree. Beenox showed incredible potential as developers but Activision put too much pressure on them to meet deadlines
And then all of these studios got put into the CoD mines.
You forgot to mention how you can unlock the black suit after beating the campaign in the PS3/PC/Xbox360 versions. You can then start the campaign again, but this time you can play in the black suit from beginning to end
You can also play the whole game as Harry, just like the first movie game, if you buy the DLC.
What?? How?? I've played the Spider-Man 3 (PS3/Xbox 360/PC) game since childhood essentially, and I've never heard of replaying the game again with the Symbiote suit from beginning to end.

The PS2 version was one of my favourites back in the day. Must have beaten it 3 or 4 times with my mates. Came with a free poster too!
I'm glad to see more and more people speaking positively of the PS2/Wii/PSP version, and a lot of them even preferring it. At the time of release, and even for quite a few years, this version was widely looked at as inferior to the flagship version, with many complaining about there being less missions and it feeling like the game had been cut down too much. I'm happy that, as time has gone on, more people are realizing how bloated the flagship version was and how the PS2/Wii/PSP version was much more streamlined and enjoyable.
Plus, it cant be denied that Bruce Campbell's narration was much better in it.
Yes, the Vicarious Visions version is superior to Treyarch's in every way and I can't believe I'm saying this
I got the PS2 version first, and despite it being a bit disapponting when it came to the graphics and how empty the city itself felt, I remember having a really good time with it. I didn't try out the flagship until I got an XBox360 about a year later, and TBH that version just felt off in so many ways, like the combat just didn't feel impactful at all, and the web swinging was very stiff.
i remember i used to like the PS2 version alot back then, not as much as spider man 2, but enough to the point where i could jump between the two and know i would have a fun time, and i remember getting so side tracked by the different gang bits to the point where at some point i just stopped progressing the story and just kept doing that until i got bored of the game at some point.
Ultimate Spider-Man and Web of Shadows are worth talking about when it comes to different versions so I'd recommend those first and foremost
Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time are somewhat interesting to tackle too in certain aspects
I actually think ultimate spider man is better than spider man 2 in some aspects,

Web of Shadows (as well as Shattered Dimensions) for DS is goated. The combat in those games are among the best in all of the Spidey games.
One of those came out on like every platform imaginable at the time.
@@Master4Bionicle the web swinging and the combat is far better in spider man 2 and spider man 2 also has more content, however ultimate spider does have a better art style and story.
I remember to play a lot the ps2 version of this game when i was a child, i didn't knew the 360/ps3 version exists.
This was the game I played the least out of the Raimi trilogy. I didn't even end up playing both the flagship and lower spec version till like 2021/2022. Kinda glad I missed out on it, cause I could've only imagined the disappointment going from 2 to 3.
Definitely would love to see you do Ultimate Spider-Man but also interested in Edge of Time considering the 3DS port was actually a port of the console version. Web of Shadows would also be interesting as the PS2 and PSP versions were 2.5D beat em ups. (Something I didn't realize till I popped in the disc lol.)
The Amazing Spider-Man was also interesting cause they managed to port the console version to the Vita.
im sorry but he just doesn't know what hes talking about when it comes to SM3s web-swinging... how does him saying 'why take something that works and break it' - make any sense and how does his reasoning break the web swinging and make the web-swinging/traversal system worse... he's only saying that because of how the public opinion perceives SM3 and sh1t everything on it has to offer when it literally expanded the combat and the web-swinging as a whole... the graphics are fine because of the art style filter it has and decreasing the brightness really helps the games overall look except for the daily bugle office
and its easy to say the camera is pretty bad when you're sh1t at the game and wants to sh1t on it for the sake of sh1tting on it... he's showing the examples like it happens all the time when YOU as the player has to manage the f3cking camera instead of something like Insomniacs SM where it holds your hand with the camera as well as the web-swinging
PS2 is definitely the best version, IMO. I definitely preferred playing that over the PS3 version. Also yes, definitely make videos comparing other versions of Spider-Man games, specifically Ultimate and Shattered DImensions
DS version is considered the best version due to it using the touch screen.
I remember playing the PS2 version and I had a bug happen while chasing the Lizard through the streets where the Lizard and his henchmen (hench-lizards?) didn’t load their models properly, so it replaced them with big red exclamation marks❗️🤣
I played through that part of the mission like that until it became too unclear what I was supposed to do (or maybe it softlocked, I don’t remember). It was fixed after a soft reset.
You should do a video on the Ultimate Spider-Man game. Was released between the second and third movie games and was kinda overshadowed by them, but it really holds up for a 6th gen title. One of my personal favs. Totally recommend checking it out. They actually adapted the story from the game into some of the future Ultimate Spider-Man comics.
The PSP version also fixed some of the glitches (mostly visual if I'm not mistaken) and also had an exclusive mode. The gang mechanic worked pretty well for a handheld game as they were quick missions you could just pick up and get quickly into some action.
I remember the PS2 version fondly! That game was my childhood and it’s good to see it get some love.
I played the ps2 version and liked it fine, but I was dying to play the flagship version (it looked marvelous in my 11 year old eyes). That was the game that made me buy a ps3, and despite all the bugs and gameplay problems, I absolutely loved it. It was so varied and had so much style (especially the quick time events).
It will always hold a special place in my heart.
Ha, I remember that feeling. Spider-Man 3 and Wolverine were games I had on PS2 that looked better on PS3 (I had Spider-Man 3 PSP first). I eventually upgraded in 2009 and went back to play Spider-Man 3 flagship version.

As a GBA kid I think that Spider-Man 3 on GBA was a lot more fun than the other 2d spiderman tie-ins of the time. The levels felt grander and the combat felt more naturalistic for Spider-Man.
I remember playing this on the Wii a lot. Didn’t realise there were difference versions. I quite liked it as a kid.
i would love for you to continue the spiderman series, especially web of shadows since the flagship title compared to the ps2 and handhelds were so different

This video convinced me to finally pick up this game. I just ordered the Special Edition for the PS2, complete with the bonus DVD and slipcover. I've always loved Spider-Man 2 but the third one never gelled with me the couple of times I played it on Xbox 360 at my cousin's house. The PS2 version looks like it'll make for a fun weekend!

@@lctaylor6 Yeah, it seemed like they were trying to do too much in the third movie. I feel like Spider-Man 3 would have been better received if they had kept the "Spider-Man confronting his uncle's killer" and "Harry learning the truth about his father's death" plots while saving the Venom storyline for Spider-Man 4 (with a sequel hook hinting at Carnage being the main villain of Spider-Man 5).
It just had to fit the movie lol
Part of that from what I heard as for story wise and it is very clear from me playing it myself it’s clear that the developers didn’t get a lot of information about the story from the movie this time around which is why they didn’t have the information of moments after Peter Parker found out that flint marko who eventually became sandman was the real person linked to the Ben Parker homicide he was possessed by the symbiote and started eventually going after marko himself I’m not sure about it graphic wise

for the next Spider-Man game i think you should talk about Web of Shadows, it was my favourite when i was younger but something i’ve noticed about it is that most people played the xbox/ps3 version but i’ve always found the wii version better, even tho the controls are very janky it’s better for something i don’t see anyone talking about and that’s the fact that you can actually unlock and switch to different suits for both the red/blue and black suits this was an awesome feature exclusive to the wii version, and like i said there isn’t much info i’ve been able to find online about this
Despite all the jank, as a 13 year old that absolutely loved spider-man, this game was dream come true, and i loved every second of it
I grew up with the GBA port, and love going back to it from time to time. it's short, and not super polished, but I always have a good time with it.
Gotta say. Spider-Man 3 on the PSP was a fever dream. Upgrading the black suit only to get absolutely demolished by Venom will forever stick with me

I did play the 360 version, but I remember getting stuck on a Kraven mission and never finishing it. It just didn't grab me like the 2nd one.

I was really dissapointed with the PS3 version of this game. Thats because I played the PS2 Version beforehand. When I Upgraded to my PS3 I did feel the next gen upgrades but I missed the features of the PS2, especially the ability to change into the Symbiote suit at will. That was such a game changer. Bruce Campbell even said " Your symbiote suit is already maxed out. Who needs to upgrade the black suit anyway?"
Its also the reason why I enjoyed Web of Shadows SOOO MUCH. The ability to change to the symbiote suit at will and become stronger is a fantastic Feature. And in WOS you can combine and chain combos in such a cool way like no other Spidey game. WOS is still an amazing game. It just sucked because it was 720p below 30fps. Imagine that game with native 4K@60fps
I had the Wii version. I liked switching between the suits. I didn't like that they mapped the jump and web swing to the Z and the web attacks and web swing to B. I constantly jumped when I wanted to swing and swung when I wanted to attack.

I remember when getting to the part where you play was Harry, I would purposely avoid the final boss area and just free roam around the city. It felt so freeing just flying around on a hoverboard.

I absolutely loved playing Spider man 3 in the Gameboy Advanced when I was young! It was so good!
The DS version is really underrated, you could pull off some really cool combos with the touch screen and it felt pretty natural.
I adored the way the open world worked in the DS version. It felt weirdly comfy to explore this flat New York.

I guess you could talk about the Amazing Spider-Man games next. Both movies have been adapted and whats sad about it is that they were the last games based on a Spider-man movie as they were released when Tie-in Movie games were dying out. We never got any games based on the MCU Spider-man (apart from a few VR & mobile games) due to the PS4 Spider-Man game.
I remember pouring in so many hours into the DS version, with the Wii version being a close second

I like the Xbox 360 version better, PS2 version was good. But it was alot different from the other versions I did enjoy playing spider-man 3 video game it's challenging, fun and awesome to play. You should review The Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2 video game btw

I haven't played Spider-man 3 on the Wii since it came out when I was a kid, but I definitely remember loving it. I didn't have a console to play Spider-man 2 when it came out, so I've only experience 3. I thought it was good, but I was young but it does have the best quick time fail of all time. I really loved the web-swinging and how left hand was tied to nunchuck and remote tied to right hand. That's what really sold it for me as a kid. I loved it and I really felt engaged with the Web-Swinging. But I haven't played it since I was a kid, but its nice to just have as a loving childhood memory. Might be ruined if I played it today with my adult brain and more critical thinking, lol.

Shattered Dimensions on DS is surprisingly high-quality. Pretty short, but it's very replayable. Edge of Time feels insanely cheap in comparison.

You didn’t mention that failing the quick time events are super funny watching Peter just die cause he get beamed in the head or cutting to the civilian being like “I’m going to die” and then the building exploding they were all pretty funny

I remember when I was a kid I played this game on the ps2 and had a great experience and really liked it a lot, I had fun and it was my first spiderman game so I was impressed. I've never played spiderman 2 which I would like to some day but I really like venom story line on spiderman since imo is the most interesting one for me so I was rocking that black suit every time. When I heard this was one of the worst games I was shocked but then I realized they were talking about the ps3 version. I highly recommend the ps2 port. Is a good game from my experience
You forget the Jakks Pacific TV Plug n Play. I was disappointed not seeing it here, but great video regardless. That one was straight fire, it was so much fun
I used to play the Symbian version(or was it just Java) version of the game on my N79. It was a good game.

The PS4 Spider-Man game was my first experience with the series. I’m amazed at how much of the 2nd and 3rd games look like prototype versions of what we got in the PS4 title. It would be awesome to see you cover that game and discuss the ways they improved on a lot of these ideas.
I found out early that you can actually destroy the cars in spiderman 3. You just have to do the combo for the web ball machinegun in the blacksuit specifically and they explode after the second volley.
Mannnn I still have this complete in box, got it for PC when it came out but it just simply wouldn't run.

I remember liking the second one. But I also remember this third one blowing my mind a bit. And it was the first game I played in HD.... glorious 720p. When my dad brought home a small 17" HD display that I could hook my 360 up to, because when he went to the store to pick up a small TV for our kitchen this one was half off, so he bought two and gave me the second one lol.

I need to replay this game man I used to love it as a kid, I didn’t really notice any of its flaws when i was younger lol and i also didn’t speak any english to understand the game at all, and i didn’t have a memory card so i had to start from the beginning each time i turned off the console, The villain designs are sick they did a great job raimifying them
I played Spider-Man 2 on PS2 for years and was so hyped to play 3 on PS3. I've never been more disappointed in my life.
I was just happy when i got it on the ps2 that it was open world this was my first Spiderman game after the first movie’s game plus the two ps1 games. I freakin loved this game

I think the graphics are the main highlight of the HD versions. They put much effort into making the game look cool and darker but I think the PS2 version is better gameplay wise.

Ah, yes. The PS2 version was the first game s bought with my own money as a kid... not my proudest purchase, but I loved that game then.
The PS2 version was actually the first Spider-Man game I owned since the classic 2000 game on PS1 (though I had the N64 version). Since I never owned the Spidey 2 game at that point, playing the open-world gameplay of Spidey 3 was a real blast for me. Also felt the game was actually better than the movie, though it helps that the movie was a letdown compared to the first two. At least Spidey kept his mask on throughout the final boss fight, and Venom looked a lot better than in the movie too. Plus Tobey Maguire certainly proved in each of these games that he was good at being a quippy Spidey, even though he wasn't given the same material to work with in the actual movies.

Nothing will haunt me more about this game than the fact that the ps2 different was insanely different from the ps3
The one thing i did like abound the game was that there was a lot off things to do it was my favorite despite the glitches i had the PS3 versions and i did like the combos
