It never ruled the earth. It was heavily criticized upon it's release and was only carried by franchise recognition. It remains to this day a really bad movie with a big name.
Even before Phantom Menace was announced, I knew that Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader after being burned alive by hot lava during a duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi, but how exactly did I know that?
I remember my friend had like 4 copies of this, his father worked at some company that handled retail stuff for xbox games and this one didnt sell at all. :D *hello hello hello hello*
I have a lot of qualms about the remake, but my biggest gripe was the plate and subsequent fight against the turks (originally just Reno). The plate support sequence in the original was tense. Battle music never stopped as you climbed up. You saw the avalanche gang and they gave a few farewell words, but the moment was always pressing and you couldn't stop to talk to them. You made it all the way to the top real quick because of that. There, you met Reno for the second time, whose only job is to trigger the pillar bomb. He effortlessly lands, goes past the gang, arms the bomb, and when Tifa says it has to be disarmed, he says he can't let them do that and the fight starts. Reno here isn't fighting to beat the team, he's just there to buy time. It's 3 VS 1 and he still handles the gang without too much problem, before zipping off. In the remake, the support sequence is a slog. Jesse and Wedge gives a touching farewell that just lasts forever. I understand they tried to flesh out their characters, but there are some hellishly pressing matters that need to be taken care of. The climb also has a lot of "hide from the helicopter sequence" that, again, break the momentum of the scene. Once you reach the top, you fight Reno, and then Rude in his helicopter, and you beat them both. They're down and nearly dead, but then Reno upgrades to cutscene Reno and, through the power of pulling stuff from his behind, manages to run past Cloud and crew (who got downgraded to their onomatopoeia spouting cutscene versions) to arm the bomb, dooming sector 7. The original has a stressful moment that lets you meet one of the recurring antagonist of the game, who barely has time for you. The remake has a stretched thin padded climb into a pretty impressive looking fight that makes the turks look equal/inferior to cloud and gang, only to get shafted by a cutscene.
lmao skill issue
The GBA version actually looks kind of charming.
I liked the phantom menace, I didn't care for attack of the clones at the time, but if you take away the mushy scenes with padme and anakin it's pretty good, revenge of the sith is excellent
Please do one of these for all of the prequels!
Please do create more videos in this style, lots of memories returning
why 50gb
True story, i saw an episode 1 bouncy castle on the way home from work today
having played this and jedi knight 2 i never could get accustomed to the game with kyle cestis (dont know the name of the game atm). It just felt plain wrong losing all the freedom in your movement
Episose 1 taught me words I live by. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE! I still remember walking out of the theater feeling thoroughly disappointed. It really was a bad movie. Then in 2001 Lord of the Rings came out and I was like Star What?
Loved this Game back in my Teenage and Very Early 20s but today with almost 32 Years Old i see it very differently , this Game gives no Positive Favor to the Great Final Fantasy 7 Storywise but the Gameplay was OK.
I went to see TPM at age 9 with my dad. I remember being so hyped for the film. We ended up seeing it twice in the theater because the first time the film melted half way through the movie. I definitely remember the legos, toys and video games!
Not even the hype for the force awakens or Endgame was like that, not even close. No movie franchise has come anywhere near it. Was peak fever for us Star Wars fans back then
Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban on PC are both S tier for me (especially since back then consoles were out of my reach).
this game is my childhood, the love and dedication that they put into every detail the graphics, the music, everything! 18 years later i still play it sometimes.
We were robbed.
I still fondly remember the merchandise. I only for the first time heard about the hate for Phantom menace when the 3D version came out that I visited
Listen say what you will about the movie but this was a special time, insane to see the entire world looking forward for episode 1 with the unbelievable merchandising everywhere
The PC version is still the best, better graphics and smoother
When is he going to review Star Wars Demolition? Love that game man
I was just trying to decide between the Xbox and pc version. I knew they were a bit different, but I had no idea. Thank you for this detailed comparison. I found it informative and entertaining.
I waited forever for that VHS widescreen version of Episode 1 back in the day. I still have it downstairs in a tote of mine. It was just something about Episode 1. Once I got that Version me and all my friends got together and watched the shit out that tape lol!
Phantom menace ruled the world..... and then people saw it.
i have crazy nostalgia for the pc version. the way the levels are designed and the music interacting. It's probably similar to the PS1 but a bit more cozy instead of the scary void feeling What I loved the most are the secrets in this game. Blew my mind as a child
It's dumb but also was hilariously fun to play. My cousin and I would play this game for hours. I can definitely think of worse Star Wars games
they must have been so mad when they exited the theater
Said it before and I'll say it again. Star Wars died that day, on May 16, 1999. Before that day, Star Wars had infinite possibility. After Ep. 1 came out, all that potential just drained away. Think the Sequel trilogy ruined Star Wars? That's cute.
It was fantastic seeing it again in theaters, I was very young when Episode 1 came out and I don't really remember seeing it all too well. watching it again as an adult and experiencing it on the big screen was really breath-taking, everyone seemed to love it and even Jar Jar even got laughs out of the kids that were watching it.
This CAN be done w proper team! Sacrifice graphics for quality mechanics and features without veering from BF premise
This CAN be done w proper team! Sacrifice graphics for quality mechanics and features without veering from BF premise
Ok some people can’t see it but I swear on my life the mechanics in this game seem to be 1 to 1 exactly the same as the battlefront remake. Wonder how much money the creators got paid 😢
Seeing this reignites my sadness about the Disney Star Wars films. They truly dropped the ball.
So mostly it was just a lot of flying into things to destroy their energy cores.
A remake of it would be awesome
All of those “Ruled the world” would be great!
Have to go with Buu's Fury. The transformations, ability to hold Super Saiyan longer, and special attacks were my favorite aspects of the game.
5:59 that’s the same year as the phantom menace was released and Lego Star Wars.
Good old memories of 99 KFC, pizza hut promos Toys R Us visits were frequent. Watched the movie 10 times from may to july 1999 Fun time I haven’t gone to watch it but Im planning to go see it tomorrow night
Great video! Please do attack of the clones and revenge of the sith too!
a star wars musou game . what do you guys think ?
I went to a 12am show and watched it today on a day off.... Cheers to another 25 years for all fans... :)
Really great experience.
I refuse to believe all of this happened. When I saw the movie back in the day, the theater was nearly empty.
You can refuse as much as you want, it happened.
The marketing for Episode 1 is the stuff of legends worthy of a documentary
I remember watching that QVC special live 😂
Peter jacksons king kong game is probably one of the best games on og consoles
I can watch these kinds of videos all day. The lead up to episode 1 was sooooo GODDAMN awesome. The hype, the stuff, the thoughts, the dreams. It was a wonderful time before reality kicked is all in the balls.
