    Make sure you don't fall into the gamblers fallacy when playing pokemon! "Oh he's not gonna hit 2 sun thunders, 25%" doesn't matter because he's already hit one thunder, so the chance is now 50% regardless of how unlikely past events were

    • @BKCplaysPokemon
      @BKCplaysPokemon  Před 3 lety +59

      oh, I'm familiar with the gambler's fallacy thing, I was just being lazy/inattentive in that sequence. however, I do want to note that at the beginning of the sequence, i.e. before dialga uses its first thunder, then it is fine to take the accuracy of two sun thunders into account if you're committing to the 1v1.

      The Gen 2 bids are definitely the box art legendaries that enjoyed the most the passage of time imo (and that's counting the Weather Trio, even without their Primal/Mega they already were very good from the start, but Lugia and Ho-Oh were very underwhelming at first before becoming better and better with time)

      @@haruharudude I think I should have explained better what I meant
      Lugia is good on paper but it's not worth bringing due to poor match up against the top tier, just like Zekrom in gen 6 and 7 Uber, but I can guarantee that once the metagame shifts away from Shadow Calyrex and thus defensive Yveltal etc, Lugia is gonna get a lot better as it has a good match up against a ton of the tier and can stop a huge portion off the offensive threats cold in their track. Mark my word, Lugia is gonna get insane in a meta that is less hostile to it at every corner

    • @haruharudude
      @haruharudude Před 2 lety +3

      @@sephikong8323 The metagame already shifted away from defensive Yveltal once Zacian got banned and Calyrex-S is the single best source of speed control in a tier that desperately needs it. Ghost types and dark types aren't just going to magically disappear because Lugia faces stiff competition from Lunala and loses because Lunala is actually able to threaten the things it switches into and doesn't get turned into a sitting duck as much when taunted. You don't seem to really know what you're talking about but "good on paper" is also pretty meaningless in general. Also, psychic/flying isn't a very good defensive typing

    At first I thought “protect ho-oh” meant “run rapid spin”

  • @ricardoludwig4787

    Even if pokemon like Groudon start running rock moves to limit ho-oh, that will always mean sacrificing something from their main set such as dclaw to have a good guaranteed hit on Giratina-O and the latis

    Last year, a scientific study noted that the prevalence of Ho-oh in the Johto region has more than halved since the 1990s. Pokemon conservationists are urging 10 year olds to stop catching Ho-oh in fear of us losing the species by 2025. Protect Ho-oh before its too late!

    This video did not disappoint.
    I was thinking about using t-spikes with Ho-Oh, but it didn't seem like a good fit for me considering it generally forces you to move Ho-Oh out of the lead slot and I wasn't too keen on the thought of Ho-Oh almost certainly switching in on rocks. (I was using an offensive set w/ sub, although even with rocks up it was a menace). I blanked on lead Tentacruel even though I've seen it before, but my god does it work wonders. Mind games with lead Deoxys and Giratina, rapid spin to help Ho-Oh (which isn't guaranteed but it's a lot better than having no chance of getting rocks off) and of course, toxic spikes. I was thinking that a non-lead (specially) defensive Tenta would be nice in sun with some solid pursuit support, but I'm not a very good team builder and I don't think I could pull it off. This was a great analysis of a great set, and I'm really looking forward to how the metagame adjusts to deal with it (and seeing new and improved Ho-Oh teams).
    After the video, I recreated the team from the replays in the video, and wow. I loved Ho-Oh in the lead slot, but this just takes it to the next level. I definitely see what you mean with it being flawed, but that doesn't stop it from being fun. I wasn't sure on all the sets, so I read between the lines a bit. On Heatan though, I put on torment which was hilarious when a Kyogre switched in on it, taking t-spikes and rocks, Heatran protecting and then either being forced to struggle, switch or thundering. Being able to punish a Kyogre switch in with protect definitely made it easier to spam Sacred Fire (pp constraints aside), and a lot of the time once Kyogre is gone Ho-Oh has a field day (assuming you still have sun - Sunny Day on Heatran might be useful, getting rid of rain without setting sand, although that might be a bit too far (although Torment + Sunny Day on Heatran seems stupidly fun against Kyogre if you catch the switch, way too gimicky though)). Playing against a CM RestTalk Kyogre with this team would be a bit scary, though I haven't run into one yet (it's probably manageable but I still wouldn't want to fight it). I think Pursuit Darkrai might work over Tyranitar on this team, ideally pivoting in on a sneak from an opposing Tina-O or scaring it out after a KO (although if they stay in you could be in trouble, so dark pulsing the first time might be better), but I haven't had time to try that yet.
    One thing that I do disagree with is the use of non-shiny Ho-Oh. Shiny Ho-Oh looks amazing, but I'm going to attribute that to you making the team in a bit of a rush seeing as the Tar wasn't shiny either. Awesome video as always.
