    "Spruce Wayne" is really good.

I saw an early showing in the theatre and what I remember was pained silence. The jokes didn't land, people weren't excited about the action, and when the "Holy Rusted Metal, Batman" line hit, it was the first time (and only) time the audience laughed, I think as much out of relief and nostalgia as anything else.

I did watch Batman Forever growing up and as I remember, I didn't hate it but I didn't like it as much as the Burton films. I'm pretty sure Jim Carrey was the highlight of the movie for me at the time. He still might be, to be honest. Except for Two-Face, the other characters are pretty dull.
I was a Jim Carrey fan in the 90's too. Yes, I remember thinking that Ace Ventura was comedy gold. Ugh.

4:32 If you pause at the right moment, you can tell when his heart splits in two. Also, behind the scenes, Carrey says that Tommy Lee Jones told him to his face that he couldn't stand his childishness.
For the suits in this one, I didn't think much as a kid, but getting older, I guessed he was going for resembling a muscle cuirass or heroic nudity (without the actual nudity).

I feel the early 90s obsession with Jim Carrey is somewhat tied to the late 80s obsession with Paul Reubens. Pee Wee’s Playhouse has similar antics to what you would find to a Jim Carrey vehicle. The only difference there is that more often than not, its world makes little pretense to work on real-world logic, and so the character rarely clashes with his setting. His popularity exploded out beyond that show. He was originally tapped to voice Roger Rabbit and also did work on a popular children’s sci-fi movie called Flight of the Navigator, where he would do much of his usual schtick, particularly his signature goofy chuckle.
I feel when Reubens became persona non grata, it left a sort of comedy-power-vacuum that execs thought they could fill with Jim Carrey instead.

That's a really interesting theory! I never saw much of Reubens but you may be onto something here :D
